Could anybody tell me why the movie “Sinfully Sexy” was discontinued? It’s listed on Adult Dvd Talk and has some great performers like Jenaveve Jolie, Lanny Barby and of course, a young Teagan Presley. I would really like to view this movie, does anybody know a website I can download or even ugh! watch v.o.d. It seems strange that it’s hard to find ( I’m based in the U.K ) with so many good performers in it.

Thanks for the Quick reply, I was looking for a download. £21+ p&p ($34.00)is a lot to pay for an old movie with so many mixed reviews. Or v.o.d so i can roughly see what i'm buying.
Why not go the the "Marketplace" section of the forums "International DVD Trading" and put a "Wanted" ad in there and someone in the UK might have it in there collection.
Generally speaking, movies are put OOP when sales are infrequent to the point that it would not be in the best interest of the distributor to pay for another 1000 copies to be made. In porn this happens often.
Also I think it's simply a case of too little shelf space. Don't know when that film was produced, but even a few years ago there was thought to be well over 10,000 porno films produced in one year. Way too many titles for the average corner store to carry and with even the bigger online retailers eventually running out of space. Truth is, adult films are still being discontinued at an alarming rate. I hear productions are slowing down now, which might be a blessing in disguise. Still I always tell anyone to go ahead and get that film they're dying to see as soon as they can. Might not be there the next year or tomorrow.

Translation. The movie is crappy and noone wants to buy it!
^^ I disagree. There are many porn movies that are no longer available due to economic forces that work against them. The need to print 1000 copies at a time, that john lyons offered, is only one example. The good and bad movies alike go out of print. For example, I would love to buy a copy of Amazing Sex Talk -- with the great Nikki Tyler/Peter North scene -- but it is out-of-print. Yet, volumes 2 and 3 are still available (translation: they haven't sold through the stock yet). So, paradoxically, the least popular titles are still available, while the one everyone wants is out-of-print. Personally, I believe that there is a gold mine to be realized from back catalog titles. Unfortunately, constantly re-printing every title is just not economically sustainable. I think releasing two older titles together on a single DVD could make re-printing many titles feasible. It creates value for the consumer, and appeals to two prospective customers (making sell-through economically sustainable).

Agreed. For instance, the early BJ series, California Cocksuckers, is largely unavailable on DVD. A DVD was released of the first 2 volumes and a "Best Of" DVD was also released. But what is really needed is a release of all 25+ volumes perhaps packed 2 or 3 on a disc.
^ While doing my Christmas shopping this year, I saw for the first time (maybe they've been doing this for a while and I just hadn't seen it before, I don't know) that they do this with a lot of mainstream movies now. I imagine it's for the same reason. I was seeing DVDs like "action 3-pack" with 3 older action movies on one DVD, or "suspense 2-pack", etc. I think both the mainstream and porn film industries would do well to re-release a lot of older titles in this fashion. Imagine if they started releasing DVDs with, for example, one OOP Amber Lynn flick coupled with one OOP Christy Canyon flick. I think that kind of thing would sell pretty well.
And, particularly, since one dual-layer DVD will typically permit you to load two VHS and/or single-layer DVD titles without having to reduce quality to make them fit.
Excalibur made a killing in the VHS days providing OOP titles. They worked out some kind of (exclusive?) deal with many studios to do their own in-house duplication of OOP VHS tapes. Excalibur kept massive libraries of "master" tapes that they would duplicate as needed to fill orders. I'm kinda surprised there isn't a store out there doing this for DVDs. I think most customers would be happy with a burned DVD if it included the entire original feature including extras, etc.
So many of the movies that I shot when I was a kid are out of print. The companies that I shot for went out of business years ago. I'd love to find a place to buy those movies but I suspect that they were sold for comps and don't even exist in their complete form anymore, if they exist at all. Diedre Holland, Debi Diamond, Bionca, Rebecca Bardoux, Rebecca Wild, Jeana Fine, Tiffany Mynx, Alicia Rio, JR Carrington, the list goes on and on.
Yes, but I don't think they give you the whole movie with their service. I haven't paid attention for a while but I seem to recall that they were essentially transferring the VHS tape version to a DVD. I guess that's better than nothing but you miss out on any extras that might have been included on the DVD version.
I don't believe any of the ones offered this way were ever released on DVD, but I could be wrong. All the ones I've picked up appear to be VHS masters with a long Excalibur logo sequence in the beginning and usually Excalibur adverts at the end. No menus or extras at all.
The money will come if someone is interested enough to digitize the old footage. Digital distribution should allow the most obscure of titles to remain in print. Shelf space is no longer a limiting factor. Disk space is cheap. The economics seem to support digital distribution as well. Was talking to a producer/director at AEE who said there's no money in catalog DVDs for him. If you look at a DVD as a series of 5 scenes -- he shoots gonzo, so there's no plot to worry about -- when he runs out of his stock of DVDs he's faced with the following: 1. Reproduce another 1000 pieces. This includes disc duplication, cover inserts, storage, shipping to distributors. He said at the end of the day, he makes $2 a disc for catalog stuff. 2. Split the DVD into its 5 scenes. Post those same scenes on clips.com -- charge $4.99 for each scene. His cut on clips.com is 60%, so he makes $2.99 per downloaded scene. So, all he has to do is sell 1 scene out of 5 and he's already more profitable than if he sold a disc containing 5 scenes. Now, we can ask what this means to the consumer. His titles are selling for around $15 on the open market. So, you'd only be able to buy 3 scenes for the price of 5 on clips.com. Maybe this matter, maybe not. It depends on the movie, I guess.
I think many people buy movies for a single scene anyway. The director/studio might influence the decision to buy a DVD but it's typically a scene or two that they must have. So it's better for the consumer and the producer. Getting the consumer to pay for the scene is a whole different issue unfortunately.
Yeah when it comes to gonzo flicks, it's quite often the case that a customer (like me, for example ) will get a DVD for just one or two of the scenes. We'll gladly watch the other scenes because we have them now, but the "must-have" scenes were the only reason we bought it in the first place, and if we can buy those scenes only, at a cheaper price, I can see quite a lot of people doing so. Of course, as Drew mentioned, there is still the issue of piracy... But as far as the paying customer goes, having the option to purchase only the scenes they want could be quite an attractive option for them. What this means for the producers/directors is that if they have any scenes that are just "filler", they probably won't sell very well. So I could see this serving as motivation to making fewer, but better scenes. In a perfect world, anyway.

Thanks guys, this is getting into an informative discussion; some of you guys are quite right about selective scenes. The two scenes I would like see on Sinfully Sexy are Teagan and Lanny Barby, It would be great if I could download individual scenes of my favourite stars, especially some of their early performances. Also compilation dvd’s were mentioned on some earlier posts, does anybody know if the Teagan or Lanny Barby scenes have been included on a compilation disc.
There was (or still is) a company called VIDEO AGE that did a very similar thing but they took it a step further and did what someone suggested and made DVD 4-packs. The 4-packs would consist of 4 movies starring a particular star, 4 parts of a porn series, 4 movies of a similar theme. They'd often do 4-packs of older movies that were or weren't available on DVD. They'd mail them in a paper sleeve and the price was usually about $9.99 to $19.99. The 4 packs could end up being a good deal but the down side was the shipping was too high considering they only mailed you a DVD in an envelope with box or cover. Their new releases were overpriced. They mostly only sell movies from VIVID, WICKED, VCA and the older companies that did the less extreme/harder stuff.
I just kinda stumbled on this most interesting thread, and I have a question about when a studio sells their library to another company and they chop it into comps... Do they not keep a master copy? I would also like to add to this thread that a lot of people do buy movies for a particular scene but I think the films Mike is talking about are Feature Films with a plot, sometimes stupid, but I used to absolutely love features. Cabellero(hope I spelled that right) and VCA were my favorite Feature lines and I was always happy with their productions.
I think that's absolutely true. All my favorite full-length movies (i.e. over an hour) typically have one or two scenes I enjoy, and the rest is fodder. Even among compilations, if I can find one excellent scene, it's a keeper. Or two or three good scenes. I can't think of a title where I really liked more than 25% of it.
I can only speak for myself but when I used to collect certain films, one good example is a movie I have called Wanderlust, I bought it for just one particular scene. The scene probably showed up in a comp somewhere but I am happier owning the original movie the scene came out of. Adult films have changed a lot since I quit collecting movies. With modern gonzo films I see no reason to own the original, even with older gonzo. Another example I have is I really liked a scene from Sodomania 2, but it was in Sodomania 7? Biggest and Baddest or something like that. In that case I was happy with the comp because I still got the scene in it's entireity. Confusing? I'm just tossing my opinion in, I can see the difference in both cases one where I was happy with a comp and one where I was happy with the original.
And that is a great short list Quasar. I'm pretty trying my hands on any early Jeanna Fine I can find. You aren't the only director or performer trying to find their earlier films. From what I have learned. it literally is like looking-for-a-needle-in-a-haysack. Not all scenes go eventually on comps. though. Since their copywrited, someone, somewhere, must own it or own the rights to it. I sure hope modern porn does a better job of establishing ownership rights and archiving then they did in the past. Not sure all these clips I hear are selling around the net are exactly legal.
I see that some of the major companies are doing more their own compilations from more of their more recent movies. Companies like...BLACK MARKET, ELEGANT ANGEL, EVASIVE ANGEL, and 3rd DEGREE are putting out 4 hour and multi-disc compilations for some pretty reasonable prices. As DVD sales go down I suspect we'll see more of this. My only complaint is that some of the scenes from some of these compilations sometimes start in the middle of the scene. I have an anal theme comp from one company that has some of it's scenes starting from the point where the anal sex begins without the setup or even the oral and vaginal included. The comps are a great bargain but I like seeing the whole scene.
