Why do the AVNs/XBIZs awards nominations always insist on segregating female performers into "Performer of the Year" and then "MILF Performer of the Year"? Why can't human fireballs like Francesca Le and Julia Ann, who have sustained full-tilt comebacks for the past couple of years not be considered worthy competition for goddamn 20 year olds – half of whom probably still never had an orgasm, at least on camera?
Male performers of all ages compete in the same category. They don't hand out trophies for Old Dog Performer of the Year. This is fucking ridiculous and insanely disrespectful. Now I can see that introducing a MILF category is actually a response to the number of grown women and former stars getting back into the scene, but why should it be one or the other for performers who clearly are playing at the very top of their game?

I don't think there's anything stopping the nomination of more mature women for Performer of the Year, but it seems like the only titles they're in is always titled MILF or Cougar, so it's a kind of de facto segregation. At least they're being nominated for something. This doesn't even scratch the surface of gripes I have with the whole awards process and who gets in for what reason. It's only porn.

i don't think that there's any disrespect. Simply a lot of people like mature women (is there a disrespect in this?) so there's an award for mature actresses. Maybe in the gay porn there's something like "filf", i don't know :)

^ It's .DILF. Yet Herschel Savage was not nominated for DILF Performer of the Year in 2006.

AVN has been and always will be a shill marketing mag. They exist to promote adult movie products not as an unbiased film critics organization. They created a MILF performer category to promote the MILF genre of films being sold by almost all the major adult films companies. I think they also created a best parody category also when those could have been nominated for best feature. It's all for marketing purposes.

I know it's all bogus. They won't even nominate you at all unless you give them a ton of free copies of any title you want considered. And in most cases, winning "best" whatever has zero impact on sales. It's just bragging rights. And since there's an award for almost anyone – since "every child is special" – there's not even much to brag about. But I don't see why you can't nominate a MILF performer in the main slate as well ... I'm just picking those two gals because I've enjoyed watching them, but surely they're more worthy than most. Maybe AVN will surprise us. XBIZ didn't.

I'm not going to defend AVN and the way they give awards but it's clear that the ratio of female performers vs male performers is significantly different. By having certain awards based on age or at least implied age then you allow more women to win an award.
The academy awards did something similar when they created an award for best comedy or animation movie a few years ago. Now you can have 2 films win the Best Picture Award instead of just one.

THey can still have a MILF category. What I'm saying is that it seems no one who falls into that appears acceptable as a performer of the year nominee. So while it may be intended as a way to be more inclusive, it's actually exclusionary. Although, yes, it makes the odds for Julia Ann to win a prize a lot better. I just think they're missing something ....

They have way too many categories to begin with: cut it down to the same best categories they have for the Golden Globes, best comedy, best drama, best gonzo, best female performer, best male performer, etc.

Geez man, lighten up, it's porn, not anything that's socially relevant from one day to the next.
OTOH, it'd be kind of funny it there were a "Porn Teen Choice Award" and a "Porn MILF Choice Award" style shows where only actual teens or actual MILFs would be allowed to participate in. They'd have to prove they actually fit into the category at hand in order to be eligible. But then people would complain about that also. As I said before, lighten up, it's porn.

I like the parody-drama category. Isn't a parody by definition a comedy?
Skronk - if they didn't have a separate MILF category they'd have 30+ nominations in the performer cats.

I think the fact that "Mature" women now can look better or at least as good as they did in their 20's due to either hard work at the gym and eating right or plastic enhancement and implants, the term MILF fills that void and needs to be explored. I was always afraid of those magazines "Over 40" - "Mature Woman". I just saw chalky skinned, droopy tits and too much makeup for my taste.
But today MILFs are some of my favorite performers. I am older as well so I can identify more with how an older woman enjoys sex.
I always thought that the term MILF filled the void between the young woman/teenager and the "Mature" tag.
Instead of a negative term, MILF says to me: Here's a woman who is: confident, full bodied (not a skinny twig), sexually adventurous, and can take a real pounding and still ask for more. All without the drama of the "Teeny boppers".
I would venture to say that Nina Heartly retired as a "pornstar" once and returned as a MILF and has really taken that label to the limit and has crossed into the "mature" zone. In the past she would have been put out to pasture and never heard from until she hit 40 or so. Too old for porn-too young to be "Mature" We would have missed her sexual prime without the "MILF" period of her life.

It doesn't weigh on my brow by any means, I just think it's kinda dumb that you can't be nominated for Performer of the Year if you're over 40.

Awards are pretty dumb.
And I guess 'Best new starlet' is equally 'age-ist'.

I guess the awards are looked at as "encouragement" for the girls. They gain notoriety by being nominated and the "older" girls .... well its a popularity contest....err....
I'm done on this one.

How so? Age isn't relevant to that award you should just be new.

^ I'm just assuming the average age for best new starlet (or whatever they call it) is 18-20, average.
And I'd like to see an 18 y/o MILF win "MILF Performer of the Year"...
Yep, awards are pretty dumb.

^Awards do mean nothing to me as a fan.
Think the average age of new starlet would be older than you think though.

Not really. Sam Hain's X-Files parodies, for example stuck pretty close to the tone of the series.

I have zero interest in awards. They exist to stroke the egos of the performers. What is the purpose of a trophy in the first place? To boast about your performances? To get them publicity?
Sex on camera is just that, sex, nothing more. I suppose the girls feel they may get paid better if they have a resume that includes awards.

Well, the dictionary definition and the porn definition of parody don't seem to be the same anymore.

The young'uns may not want a career in adult film if they kept losing to the "seasoned" pros?
So to make it "fair" for all, they have another category. That's my guess.

I don't think they ever were.
With porn, it's never been about making a commentary on the original. The originals are just grist for the mill: Ready-made plots and characters, ready-made marketing, ready-made objects of sexual fantasy.

I alluded to something like this in a post in an Adrianna Nicole thread.
The question is what's going to happen to *me*. Compare someone like Adrianna to Tanner Mayes. Yes Tanner is young, cute and has an assortment of holes, but Tanner is not going to have me worrying about how current my last cardiac stress test is. I'm guessing that I'd last mere seconds if real life Adrianna "turned it on" but I wonder if Tanner even knows what that means.
Other than the comebacks that are nostalgia acts there's probably a reason a performer is still popular. It might be more realistic to have an open "Best Female Performer" and a special age-restricted "Best New Female Performer" to highlight someone who has promise; someone who, like Vanessa Chase or Careena Collins, might be remembered years after they stopped performing.
(for the guys a single "Male Performer Least Likely to Ruin a Sex Scene with Strange Faces or Noises" award suffices)
PS. In the real world there are similar things. The Fields Medal, a Nobel price for mathematicians, is only awarded to those under 40.
