I have a chance to buy many adult titles at a huge discount, but they only come in DivX, DVD rip, and VCD formats. I don't know anything about these formats and was wondering what you all know. Are they actual movies or some sort of interactive video files?

I use a stand alone DVD player as well as Dell lap top with DVD/CD Rom drive. I have heard that some or all of these will not work on s stand alone unit.

Your wisdom is welcomed.

They are from a friend who has the origanals. How do people feel about this type of material? I personally don't have a problem with breaking copywrite laws on a small scale, friend to friend. Since I would be basically paying for the blank disk the person burning them would not be making a profit.

I doubt you want to hear this, but it is the way I feel:

While you may not be stealing from your friend, you are both stealing from Tricia and Kim and Rocco and all the other performers in the adult industry. While they might not miss the few pennies involved with your particular non-purchase, what if we all did it? They would quickly go out of business. There would be no new material for you to steal.

This was the problem with Napster (& is an on-going problem with other similar sites). Just because you buy a DVD or a music CD or whatever doesn't mean that you own distributions rights. You have purchased a copy of the material for your own use - not for making copies to give to your friends.

Gaysatyr, You have some valid points.

I do buy a lot of music, video, etc. from the mainstream industry, but I have also been known to borrow a friends CD collection and make some copies. I do not go on line for it, but the end result is the same.

I have mixed feelings on the issue. On one hand the artist needs income from selling their material, on the other hand the ability to copy music has been around forever and the industry keeps making plenty of $$$.

It seems as long as some real effort is required to copy the material there will be a small percentage of people who "cheat" the system. I think the easier making copies becomes the larger the "problem" will get. In my mind the only thing keeping the general population from making copies is the time it takes.

In some countries it is completely legal to make a limited amount of copies and give them to your friends(at least with music-cds, I'm not really sure about movies).

Now about the movies...they are all complete movies(or should be anyway). Dvdrip is naturally the one with the best quality(svcd or divx dvdrips are generally pretty close to dvd-quality), vcd's on the other hand are mostly vhs-rips, so they're not the best quality but still decent.

Beeone - Do you have any idea of what plays on what? I don't want to waste time getting something that I can't play.

Name one.

There are countries which choose not to enforce the copyrights in other countries, mainland China, Indonesia and a few others being among the worst offenders, but, to the best of my knowledge, no countries' laws allow copies to be made to be given away or sold to friends. Copies are allowed for personal use. For example, if you buy an album or CD, you are allowed to make a copy on cassette for use in your car, but you are not allowed to make a copy to give to your friends, even if no money changes hands. By law, if you give it away, you must give the original and all copies you have made to the recipient. You cannot even keep a copy for yourself.
