If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
For what it's worth, that's not an absolute. Just because performers do fake it doesn't mean there are never any orgasms. It's just that what is usually requested for filming is not usually what performers would usually do to get off.
You'd be really bored, if you had long enough to get bored, seeing me actually masturbate. It takes a minute or less, I don't spread my legs, and I don't penetrate. Rub, rub, buzz, buzz, oooh. I'm done. It wouldn't make for a very interesting scene.
On the other hand, you could have 60 scenes like that on one DVD. Maybe quantity would make up for quality. The industry uses that theory extensively already...

I saw some BTS footage of a solo scene a few nights ago and all my questions were answered. The director was talking before the scene and he explained to the talent that he wanted a 5 minute strip then 10 minutes of masturbation before the orgasm.
