A lot of people have told me that women don't really look at this magazine and it's only gay men that read it. Is there any truth to this? I'm sure some gay guys look at it but I don't see how it could survive if gays were there main customers. There's already so many magazines out there specifically for gays.
The reason I'm asking is that I'm going to be in July's "Real Men" section. I'm just curious as to how many women are going to see it.
1st, congrats on being in the mag. I wish I was good-looking like you.
But honestly, I think you're more likely to find women reading playboy rather than playgirl. I don't know the numbers- I doubt there are any statistics out there but I've never known any women to read it. You'll probably be hard pressed to find any.
Okay. Does Playgirl really cater primarily to heterosexual young women?
If, by "heterosexual young women," you mean "gay men," absolutely. They try to be targeted to women, though. But the softcore market for women is pretty much fulfilled by romance novels already.
Yeah, I don't know why Playgirl even pretends to be geared toward women. I've never seen a woman buy the magazines, subscribe to them, read them, own them, or even admit to any of the above.
They ought to just name the magazine Gayboy and be done with it
I agree masamune in that women would pick up Playboy before Playgirl!
They really like it for two reasons: 1) To see how a man thinks 2) compare themselves against the playmates and other girls in the mag and see how they rate against them in terms of "hot".
I have never seen a Playgirl magazine. Thinking about it now doesn't even make me curious to see one, except that I'm wondering what articles might be in it.
Congrats! I remember how excited I was the first time I was in Cheri magazine!!! That was so awesome.
Perhaps if Playgirl photographed their male models with HARD DICKS instead of soft, I would check it out. I'll stick to my hair stylist's stash of Mandate or Twink for now.
Matthew, congrads on being in Playgirl. It's very difficult to get into, and it's a great opportunity that will further your career as a model/ actor.

Have you girls learned nothing here the last few months. Don't you know that women are not interested in visual porn. That is way too proxy for the female genes to cope with since it lacks the necessary identification with the primal male gaze... or something like that, I guess. Anyways, I believe it boils down to the fact that porn doesn't make babies, so females are not interested in it.

I once read that more than 80% of the subscription list for Playgirl magazine consisted of male-identified names (I have no knowledge as to the veracity of the claim).
I don't look at the zine b/c the few times I have the men looked far too gay for my liking. And none of my g/f's read it either...Obviously, I dont look all the time, so I am not saying you look gay. Maybe there are exceptions. I do like rugged men and often they don't pose.
I just realized what I wrote and then looked at my avatar LOL!! But if you recognize him you know he is quite nasty and rugged most of the time (Nacho Vidal)...Just not in this one pic. LOL ~
I don't. I haven't looked at it since the 80's. But I remember the men being a little too pretty for my taste...
Years ago I did get the issue that featured wrestler Shawn Michaels, though. I was pissed that he wasn't naked. LOL
Edited to add: Hustler and Penthouse are okay. Playboy is too "glossy" and the girls all look the same. My ex had subscriptions to a bunch of mags. I actually preffered the raunchier ones... I really don't look at any porn mags. I'd rather see people moving and talking...

From reading the female posters replys it seems to me that women would rather look at other women naked than look at naked men. I was wondering why this seems to be the case.?
We are often told that women are not visual, but from the replys given it seems that women are visual, but mainly in terms of looking at other women.
I dont know the females posters sexualities, but is it that the non heterosexual women would rather look at women because they are attracted to them?, or do straight females prefer looking at women instead of men, and why so?.
All in all I guess as a straight male, I would always be inclined to look at a naked female no matter what context it was in.(Wether they looked 'gay' or not, a female is a female, in reference to women not liking looking at males because they 'look' gay( as in what has been said about the men in playgirl).
Actually, two of us broads said we'd rather look at hard cocks than limp wieners in pictures.
I like dudes a lot. But, I'd rather see them fucking something (or me) than just sitting there looking pretty. Sorry, but staring at some guy posing by the pool is really boring to me.

Do women read Playgirl?
It's not really reading for me; more like gazing at the pics. No need to peruse text.
But it's been nearly three years since I've last looked at a Playgirl; it's not really arousing as seeing those hot boys doing their thing with hot girls in a porno vid. If anything, Playgirl was at the "lower level" of what turned me on. Then I stepped up to Penthouse when they started publishing more explicit layouts in the late 90's, then discovered Club, Hustler and Fox magazine. Alas, sex in motion beats sex captured in stills anyday.
Well, my issue should have hit the news stands today. Playgirl sent me a copy of it a few weeks ago. I had sent them several pictures and was a bit disappointed in their choices of the ones they used. They cropped my penis out of one! The other one that shows everything was taken on a beach from a bit of a distance. I'm not exactly hung and when you take a picture from a distance it makes it look even smaller. I was hoping they would have used the picture I had of my ass. It's my best part LOL! Oh well, I got paid $250. For those of you ladies who said the men in Playgirl look too gay, I hope I don't fit that desscription. I promise I'm not "that" pretty.
Anyway, I'm under the "Real Men" section. I used a pseudonym "Matt Pearson". I didn't want to use my real last name because sometimes they publish hometowns. I was afraid I might start getting weird phone calls!
Some women do read it. My mother has a stack of Playgirl magazines from the 80's. She said that her husband read Playboy, so she read Playgirl. I am sure that the sells aren't as high, but why not? I bet some girls would like to take a peek at a hot stud every now and then.
Well, I'm female and strictly hetero. I like to look at other women to see how I compare to them. All wone love to look at other women because we are extremely competitive, women always compete in terms of beauty, looks and attention. Playboy models are considered the best of the best so I always love to scrutinize their makeup and bodies and see what makes them hot or sometimes not so hot.
Plus it also inspires me to exercise, tan my body, buy new makeup... lol stuff like that. Me and my friends are always looking at other women because we compete against each other and we are always asking each other "who's prettier than who" and if we see a really hot babe sometimes we get pissed off ... lol
Plus I like to look at naked chicks because I am into my body and want to see hot girls so it will motivate me to exercise so I can look my best.
I don't look at Playgirl at all. I would much rather look at hardcore porn. Who the hell wants to look at limp cocks??
A friend of mine once told me that she liked Playgirl for the erotic stories in it.
I've never seen a Playgirl and have no idea whether it contains erotic stories or not. So I don't know if that is like the stereotypical "I read Playboy for the articles" line or if she was telling the truth.
They do have a lot of erotic stories. They also usually have a M/F pictorial. It's not very hard core, they don't show a cum shot and you don't actually see any penetration. They just show the guy about to put his dick in the girl or the girl will have his dick in her hand.
