Do you consider the performers to have a real job when they go up and screw on camera, or do you consider it just to be more of a fun way to make money? I would go with the latter. I know there is a lot more involved than that, but it still seems pretty easy.

No, I consider it a job for people too lazy to get a real job. When it gets down to it minus the cameras porn is just the world's oldest profession. Not exactly a hard job to do. Now the people i admire in porn are the people who produce porn and make millions. People like Larry Flynt and Hugh Heffner. That is where the real money is.

If you consider a girl like Selena Silver who goes out of her way to build her career and spend 8 hours a day on the sets all week long, then what is it if not work?

I also have the case of GGG star Maria in mind, whose real job is manager of marketing and promotion for Eros Media but who also does a shoot per month for John Thompson. That, and she says it herself, is just a way to make easy money on the side.

In any case, it might be a fun job but it's still a job.

I don't think it's as "fun" as you guys percieve it. Sex on set is not passionate and orgasmic. It's "no move your leg, hold that pose so I can get a picture, cut" etc.

Second and thirdly, they are getting paid for what their doing, by a legitimate company, thus it's a job.

As someone who has spent a little time on porn sets, photo shoots, conventions and dance engagements let me tell you it is most definately a job.

Bite me!

Some days my job is easy but most times its anything but. Porn is not for wimps and it's not for lazy people.

Until you have had to screw in the desert, on a rock and in over 100 degree temperatures for 2.5 hours

or fuck on a coffee counter thats less than 10 inches wide

or have to keep a hard on for 4 hours,

or do an all day photo shoot and have to get an errection a dozen times and fuck in spurts

Or go without food all damn day on a set that is running over time because you don't eat before screwing.

Shall I continue?
If it was the world's oldest profession than all anyone would have to do is wait for our phone to ring and screw some shmuck, in a bed, for 10-20 mins and go home.
People that don't have a clue what they are talking about should keep their mouths shut.

I'm too busy cheering for everything Hamilton said to bother making up anything of my own. Since, after all, I am a lazy porn star.

a job is defined a 'A specific piece of work to be done for a set fee'

that you enjoy your job does not make it less real nor does that you hate your job make it more real.

You make it sound very tedious, as well. I don't think either extreme is completely true. If the performers are into each other (which can be a rarity), then the sex is surely passionate, and I can imagine there are a few orgasms here and there. I understand that there is a lot of stop and start, and do this position for a set amount of time, then switch, which makes it tough for the woman to have genuine orgasms.

You mean a career in the porn business or just porn actress ? Given the lifespan of a career in front of the cameras & the ever-going demand for teenage looking performers, I'd say it's a short-term & financially rewardable job, like a fashion model or any other profession that relies on youth & good looks. Anf if anybody says : "What about Ginger or Amber ?", I'll say they're not old by my standards, and they're nothing if not good-looking. But their presence in front of the camera has definitely diminished & they had to find other ventures (radio hosts, queen of the feature dancers, you name it). I think there are performers here who reaaly consider it their jobs & are willing to branch out into other areas of the sex industry when their looks alone don't sell anymore. There are numerous examples, like Paul Thomas, Sharon Mitchell or Veronica Hart. Like any other professions, you can choose to climb ladders or widen your field of competence. I think I've written too many covering letters.

I've never heard of you. But I want you to answer one question for me that will change my mind about your job. Is your job necessary? School teachers, firemen, farmers, are necessary jobs. Is your job?

Boney McPoke-
You're right, I did make it sound tedious, I'm sorry.

I am not of the opinion that working on a porn set is all like that, just that things like that are a real part of porn.

I guess I was just trying to make a clear point becasue I was so mortified at PornBoy's response.

PornBoy-
Let me remind you as a moderator that disrespect and blatent put downs will not be tolerated.

As a fellow memeber allow me answer the last question you posed.
Is retail clerk, resturant server or graphic deigner a neccessary job?

These people serving the public, their jobs are not "needed" for a civilized societies exhistance yet you would not put them down so harshly.

Although I find it rude, it is valid to have a poor opinion of porn stars, you are welcome to your opinion. But it makes me wonder why you are participating in an Adult DVD forum? And why you would see it approcpriate or neccessary to share that opinion here of all places.

Feeling is very mutual, I never heard of you prior to this exchange either and would have been happy to keep it that way. I'm going into my 3rd year in the Jizz Biz and I've busted my ass each step of the damn way. I've totaled close to 200 scenes with 90% of them for Interent. Unfortunately that doesn't give a performer the recognition video does.

Is it a necessary job? HELL YES! Because people need to jerk off.

So tell me porno boy, what would you be doing if it wasn't for us? Perhaps getting some on your own? Or jerking off to National Geographic?

I have a weird obsession with pornography. I also collect books and artifacts of serial killers and recenty visited the areas in Virgina, Maryland, and DC where the Beltway Sniper ended people's lives. People need to be reminded they and their jobs are in fact insignificant. In fact I think society could function without any jobs whatsoever. I just find it interesting that people would allow themselves to be degraded for a month's rent. Yet pornography is like a car wreck. Although I don't want to look and feel bad I still have to look. I still feel a need to see what someone is willing to do. Very rarely do I actually jerk off to porn its not completely sexual to me. My dad was a military and police psychologist and he's always tell me stories about human behavior and why people felt the need to end another's life. It was always about the same thing power, similar to pornography. Men love to play god. Men love to believe they are the Alpha and Omega. If you can pay a women to surrender her body to you and make her do double anal, bukkake, and whatever else it make the man feel superior. Before government and laws rape was commonplace in society. In fact thousands of black slaves were raped by their masters and when they got pregnant the offspring were destroyed. If we had no law and government to you honestly believe this trend would end? So do I believe porn is a real job? Well, if you want to believe it is I won't argue with you.

A real job? Hell, yes. And I'm betting not an easy one, either. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

My thoughts are in line with (and I won't bother repeating in my own words) what Lunacy and Mr. Steele said so well.

"I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the Universe that makes things happen. All you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball."

Who should they be significant to? You? Me? It's true that many, if not most jobs are not significant in the sense that they don't improve the human condition or enlighten the human spirit. However, the mistake you make is in thinking that is their function. It's what people do in their jobs that determines whether they're building up or breaking down the social bonds, along with their own characters, and that's all that really matters.
Sigh... Personally, I feel a kinship to porn actors because I used to be a musician. I was in a band that travelled throughout the southeastern US playing in small to medium sized clubs. Sometimes the management were great people, sometimes they were assholes. In some of these venues the audience responded to the music very positively, in others they hardly responded at all. It was a pain in the ass dealing with lowlife managers, and it was tough going when the audience didn't care for what we were offering, but was my value as a human being determined by their reaction? Was I degraded because I had to deal with scum sometimes and got ignored other times? I don't think so, because I didn't look to anyone but myself to determine my worth. Maybe my pay changed, but I'm not my wallet, any more than I'm the power-hungry guy you seem to see all men as. In fact, I hate power and am loath to exercise it, even though my current job requires that I do so. Furthermore, I would never rape a woman, and whether or not the government condones it has damn-all to do with it. In other words PornBoy, maybe you should quit projecting your assumptions and prejudices on everybody and try dealing with them as individuals for a change. You might be surprised how much better people look when you stop trying to fit them into your preconceptions.

Oookaaay,
This really clears up a lot of things. I might be lazy and insignificant but I suspect you have more issues than I can imagine.

My opinion is basically that if you get up and do something to earn a paycheck, that's your job. Who really gives a shit what you do. Hey, I'm a college grad trying to get back in school, and right now I deliver food to pay the bills, so ya know what, A JOB'S A FUCKIN JOB.

Pornboy asked:
Most people have unecessary jobs. I often think that half the working people in this country call me at dinner time asking me to switch from MCI to Sprint. The other half, of course, call me at dinner time to ask me to switch from Sprint to MCI.
