I often like things I read here but don't feel compelled to reply. This feature would only be available to registered users. It would list the member names that have liked a post/topic in some type of mouseover/popup fashion. You can later unlike a post if you change your mind. Would you use something like this? [Link]

Click to expand I'm thinking that it will create more interaction, not necessarily more communication. Many times I'm reading things that people say here and I agree with their post or I appreciate what they have said but I don't have the desire to comment further. A quick "like this post" option is something I would make use of in these instances. It's a way to provide some feedback to the poster and the community without actually saying anything. Maybe I'm just lazy? I see so many posts where someone quotes the whole post and adds a +1 as their two-cents. This liking thingy would be for those folks too. [Link]

I do up-vote and down-vote on Reddit, but only because up-votes show up on my log and I use it sometimes to find things I want to revisit. You know what might be useful and interesting? A way to rate reviews in the database. I see some reviews that I think are great, and I've seen reviews that I don't find much help at all. Amazon does it with the "was this review helpful to you?" buttons. Or a 3 or 4 star scale like Netflix has. That might be useful for videos where there are multiple reviews, or for figuring out which reviewers are more highly regarded across the board. [Link]

You can always spot a few of these types on forums that have "like" systems. Such a significant portion of the traffic here is already dreck (guys in the upper forums who say essentially the same things hundreds/thousands of times, the "let's use ADT as our own party-line phone" contingent, jayo's "turbo post-count users"), I'm not sure that a feature which might encourage even more is what we need.
