With HD streaming and downloads companies would rather cut costs and have instant profit. Every major Hollywood studio has their own streaming service now and are still releasing their new and older titles on Blu-ray. I'm not saying everything shot in HD should be released on BD, but are porn companies so frugal and impatient they can't see the value in releasing compilation "showcases" of past scenes for some of the more popular performers with large fanbases who will pay? Technically no reason to buy a DVD with its inferior quality but these are still considered collector's items to some fans who want their copy signed by their favorite stars at expos and conventions; physical proof they paid for their porn. These companies have the DVD sales and streaming/download data. If they want to reduce risk why not engage more with their subscribers and ask members if they would at least pre-order a potential Blu-ray release. Nothing is charged until it ships, if there aren't enough pre-orders then don't go through with making the discs. Have it be exclusively sold with a specific retailer that can sell worldwide for a reasonable shipping cost (obviously the BD should be region free) This is basically how every non-porn company determines how many limited edition copies to print (e.g. steelbook) so vast amounts of copies aren't still being sold decades later. Print as many copies as there are pre-orders then on release day everything is sold and gone = guaranteed profit Maybe part of the format's demise is very few in the porn industry even know how to make an above average Blu-ray disc. Vaguely remember reading that they received no help from Blu-ray Disc Association and Sony. I haven't found many reviews but wouldn't be surprised if most had lossy audio and poor compression instead of making the Blu-ray look and sound as good as it could. In 2021 most porn companies still can't even release a decent DVD that doesn't have too many scenes stuffed onto it resulting in compression artifacts and other issues. "Shot in HD" means nothing if you don't know how to utilize disc space properly and give the video quality a healthy bitrate. Nobody is expecting anything fancy like Dolby Atmos sound or even 5.1 audio. Lossless LPCM 2.0 is fine and a reasonable expectation. Companies are cheap and would rather not have to pay extra licensing fees to Dolby or DTS. Instead of being rivals for better longterm health they should consider an industry wide partnership and have one manufacturer/replicator they will use for their single Blu-ray license. The cost is split evenly so no one studio shoulders a larger cost they can't risk. They can still be independent and release their low quality DVDs separately. If the porn industry would rather leave potential sales on the table then they have no excuse to whine and cry later if a new publisher comes along, licenses scenes from various studios and succeeds in selling Blu-ray. I half expect a random Japanese company to release more US scenes on Blu-ray. Might be censored but at least Japan and North America are Region A. Some hardcore collectors might reverse import those discs. Only took decades for everyone else to realize Netflix's appeal of having content from everybody and original programming. Now they're all playing catch up taking back their own content and creating their own originals. Edited by - Big_Tits_Addict on 8/28/2021 11:26:15 PM |

| Big_Tits_Addict Member 642 Posts 5/21 | Probably too much ego/pride involved but if these studios are too cheap for even regular Blu-ray why not crowdfund the production/replication costs on kickstarter or indiegogo or gofundme or a platform that aren't prudes? 18+ content technically might not be allowed on most of those platforms but if an indie project like Subverse can raise over a million British pounds, you have so little faith in your own content you can't find enough supporters to raise 10k? If fans pledge a certain amount they get a free Blu-ray shipped to them. Pledge more and you get input on what existing scenes you want included as a priority Thousands of followers on social media but I guess they're all empty stats huh? Take the Vixen Media Group approach and ask fans for requests/suggestions of who to shoot but never actually read/listen to them. |
