I kind of thought that when hardcore was reaching it's most over-the-top that eventually we'd see a "breakthrough" so to speak, of S&M themed porn into the mainstream. I recall once hearing a director say that he believed it was the future of porn trends. Do you think it will go more mainstream, or has it already reached it's peak?
I've noticed sites like Sexandsubmission, Kink, and Publicdisgrace seemingly gaining widespread recognition as of the last year's time. More to come? Or just not something the general porn crowd is going to buy into.
I for one hope some day it blows up, and we can have a proper S&M series geared towards specific interests and fetishes everywhere we look. Probably just me dreaming.

Sure hope it becomes more widespread too. Kink does a great job at providing a great variety of S&M themes. Funny to me that many of the models I see at Kink really don't delve into S&M at all on their personal sites. So, maybe you're right, porn consumers in general may not have any interest in it.

I have mixed feelings about the possibility of BDSM expanding into mainstream porn. If the people involved are truly into it, great! If people are just doing it for the paycheck, it could become a problem. I also have the concern that the BDSM created for mainstream porn produced by inexperienced producers, dominants and directors could actually become dangerous to submissive talent. An example is suspension -- if an inexperienced rigger suspends someone six feet off of the ground and the mounting point or ropes fail, the suspended person will be hurt -- probably severely! Nerve damage from faulty tying of feet and (especially) wrists, especially when suspended from feet or wrists is very possible if not tied correctly. Water bondage is even a bigger concern, if the dom loses control and leaves tightly bound sub submerged for more than five seconds or so, someone drowns and dies!
I say leave the BDSM to people that actually enjoy it and know what they are doing. I am not saying someone cannot be taught but a person should know what they are doing before attempting suspension, wax play, blood play and water sports. We already had one company (Insex) run out of the country and one performer/director (Max Hardcore) sent to prison due to not playing by the rules, we don't need inexperienced talent or shoddy rule enforcement causing any more black eyes to BDSM porn.

First of all. as a fetish and BDSM fan, I sure hope so! In the past a lot of these films were of porr quality and the actresses were obscure or unkinown. It would be nice to see major production companies and stars get more heavily into this genre', producing quality BDSM.
I echo some of the comcerns of the previuous poster. Even though all media is about acting and seldom is the activity portrayed on screen a true reflection of the actors personal likes, it is evident when non-BDSM actresses and directors are trying to produce a mainstream BDSM feature.

Perhaps. But if it does it will probably be watered down for the masses.

I think it will get more popular for the simple reason that because of sites like Kink.com it's getting to a wider audience.
To be honest it fucking cool to watch

I think part of the reason why the Kink sites have gained in popularity is that they've watered down the level of BSDM. Some of their older content was significantly harder than what they produce today. That's a major plus for me because I can't say that the olderer stuff did much for me. I don't think you'll see a lot of that stuff released on dvd because the laws governing dvd content is much different than those for internet. Just look at all the fisting getting done on Kink sites. Can anyone tell me on which dvd you've seen this recently? I'm not talkin on the BTS stuff but on the main section of the dvd.

I think S&M is to porn what Soccer is to American sports.
It's something more aficionados would rather do than watch.

I'm not sure what is being defined as 'mainstream' porn here, as Jake Malone, Mason and Belladonna have brought elements of S&M to their scenes for years. Bondage is more rare but not unknown either.

^I wasn't exactly sure myself. I'm pretty sure that what I consider to be light S&M someone else would consider that to be extreme. Now I could be wrong but I seem to remember that it was illegal to have a performer tied and fucked at the same time. The person can be tied before the penetration but she must be untied once the penetration begins. At least on dvd. I know that the rules are different for internet content because that is a common thing on a couple of Kink sites.

^ I don't think any of that is technically illegal. It was just something that wasn't done because it was deemed to be legally risky. Kink tends to go the extra mile to prove that their scenes are as carefully orchestrated and consensual as humanly possible for this type of content. But I would personally not do some of the things they have done. Getting away with it for a week or a month or a year or five years is meaningless in a constantly changing world.

^Thanks. I really wasn't too sure about the legal aspect. I just know that studios have avoided depicting a woman tied and fucked at the same time. I certainly wouldn't want so gungho district attorney coming after me because I mistakenly filmed something he deems morally innapropriate. If John Stagliano can be accused for a milk enema scene then the door is open for almost anything. Less likely with this current administration and also less likely after that last debacle.

^ John Stagliano was charged with obscenity for movies he didn't even make, that was how desperate the Feds were to fuck him over! John's company (Evil Angel) distributes porn made by roughly ten directors, the Feds in their idiotic wisdom charged only the distributor (John). What rationale there is for charging a distributor for something he had limited control over (if any) is beyond me! Thankfully the Feds got their asses handed to them at trial (the prosecutors should have been held in contempt of court and sent to prison for even bringing this case to trial) but this shows how far the government will go to push their brand of conformity and morals on everyone. The directors were lucky they didn't get dragged into this as well. Unfortunately, I bet everyone involved with EA is self-censoring now in order to prevent future prosecutions. There needs to be a constitutional amendment saying that all movies/TV shows/Internet sites that do not involve children, life-threatening mutilation or murder are declared legal and the penalty for prosecutors interfering with production or distribution is life in prison!

The Feds have always gone after distributors because, in my limited understanding, that is when they can step in. Distribution of 'obscene' material across state lines is what they can come after you for.

^ Actually they claim they can also prosecute based on content. Distribution is just easier as they can ship to Polk County, Florida and use their "community values" which are actually set by their zealot idiot Sheriff (who would probably volunteer himself to receive shipment for this purpose). Utah is also a favorite place for the rat fink Feds to use for railroading pornographers they don't like. The worst of what was attempted is that John Stagliano's company does not distribute porn that hardcore to begin with compared with other companies (what is so hardcore about spraying breast milk or gaping anyway that the idiot Feds have to attempt to stop its filming).

Well, I think it's more than that. I think they probably deliberately targeted distribution in the first place is because if it (porn) can't be distributed it's effectively banned. Even if it's legal for you to own it in such and such place, you have to figure out how to get it from the person who made it to the person who wants to buy it.

Obviously these laws are intended to eliminate 'obscenity,' they're known as the Comstock laws.

Films are way different than real life...I am a fan of BDSM but that is just me, anybody involved with it does it for their own reasons and the internet has made BDSM that much more attractive...written erotica like on Literotica is protected under free speech laws as it is writing...when it goes to film and somebody is bound it may be construed as non consensual. Writing about it is cool, filming it is not. Emotions play a big part of BDSM, something a lot of people don't understand...it has a lot to do with trust...when fantasy and reality clash it is a bad thing when it comes to film. Too many variables...I am active in BDSM and the emotional levels are off the charts...what is all fun and games today is "What the hell did you make me do?" tomorrow.

Of course it will. Mainstream companies are producing movies featuring prolapsed rectums now, finally crossing over from a potentially serious medical condition to something people jerk off to. Where to go from here? In terms of the human body porn has pretty much reached the final frontier - so to increase intensity they'll have to think of something else (unless Nacho starts fucking girl's nostrils). There's still much room in pain and degradation, and I suppose there's a whole lot of folks who'd just love to see their favourite porn starlet being humiliated (for whatever reason).
I predict that there'll be a year or so of rather intense "mainstream BDSM" scenes featuring some of the bigger names in porn. Some smart company will slap a hot director's brand identity on it and make it the next big thing.
