Personally, I view it as just hype.
I'm also a little bit surprised that you think this might be 'mean' considering some of the other topics you've started and posts you have made.

Just check some of the IR covers that are available. Whoever writes it (with approval from the studio) apparently thinks it will help sales. Maybe it does. DenverDon |

In my view, the difference lies in the ethnic-racial stereotyping that I always thought to be illegal in the US. |

| Renee Member 765 Posts 8/03 | It's likely you're of Mexican descent, with the sobriquet '¿Quieres chingarme?' under your name - it's Mexican Spanish for 'Do you want to fuck me?' Kind of makes sense that you would be a touch sensitive about the wording on the back cover of this film, especially the 'filthy streets of Tijuana' part. So, perhaps you can sympathize with any black, Asian, Eastern European person who's read some porn back cover and cringed at the stereotypes that the words portray, that the porn company is obviously using to attract certain types of customers - that is, those who think these stereotypes are funny, or even true. As for language used in a movie itself, I cringe when I see, during the main footage, a woman being told to call herself a whore or a filthy slut, either by the director or her male performer (sometimes, repeatedly). If she wants to say those words of her own accord, that's one thing, but there's plenty of times that you see she's doing it because she's being told to do so, not because she wants to. With a back cover reading: "Anabolic brings you a collection of scenes starring a Brit who's main source of food just may be the salty semen that shoots from the work that her pimp/husband finds her! Thus a CUM SUCKING WHORE NAMED SABRINA." Classy. Whore? Couldn't they come up with something a little less derogatory? Sexpot or something similar. Or how about "Cuddly Sex kitten" as IIRC Kimi Lixx is described in her bio on the Phantom Love DVD. Now that's cute. Do derogatory titles or similar language in the movie itself increase sales, or are they only there because of some fratboy mentality in the studios, without regard to whether the potential customers like it or not? I'd really like to know. |
| nickdel Member 281 Posts 2/04 | Ok, I looked at the box cover, read the description. I guess the problem is with the first line: "Latina Girls take pride in being the filthiest, nastiest, crazed women." Now, I can't really tell, but I think there is a period at the end of the word crazed. If there is, then this sentence is the only "derogatory" one on the box. If that little mark is a comma, then the remainder of the quote would be, "Blessed with plump round asses, mocha brown nipples, and full sucking lips." Either way you see the first part of the description, the next part starts with the word, "These." But, notice that it's capitalized and bigger than the other letters. Since there are other sentences on the cover that start with capitals but have small letters, we can assume that this is a new thought. "These dirty girls were born and raised..." It's obvious that the girls in this quote, and following throughout the remainder of the description, are the performers in this specific movie. What's all this mean? That the only racially objectionable line on the box is the first: "Latina girls..." Personally, I've never heard a stereotype about Latin women being filthy and nasty and crazed. So, the stereotype thing - for me, at least - is out. But, I could see how a person might take offense to the women of his/her race being called filthy and nasty and that they take pride in it. On the other hand, this is porn. Knowing what genre the line came from, we can assume that it refers to sex. So, now we have a line about the filthiness and nastiness and craziness of Latin girls during sex. So, I ask the question, is there anyone here in this forum that only makes love? That only has romantic relations with their significant other? Do any of you only participate in sensual, sensitive, soft, slow, missionary sex? I doubt it. So, if we've all been involved in some filthy or nasty or crazy sex - and enjoyed it! - where's the harm? If we all love nasty sex at some point, and if the person you're with isn't into it, would you keep them around? If one of your biggest turn ons is, say, filthy talk, and your lover won't do it, you'll probably go out and find someone who will. I'm not saying you'll cheat, just that you'll tend to find someone who will cater to your particular tastes. If you like to be spanked, you'd better find someone to do it, and not someone who is offended by the mere thought of it. If all this is true, then not only do we like filthy and nasty people during sex, we will seek out those best at it. Given the above, isn't that first line on the box really a compliment? I know, I know, the logic dizzying. Let's keep things in perspective here, folks. If you find the cover objectionable - even if others don't - just don't watch the movie. Yeah, we're here to discuss, but not to bash each other. As for Tijuana, I've never been there. But, isn't the cleanliness of the backstreets of any city questionable? (Good luck with this one - I don't even know what it means ) |

| licker Senior Member Heretic, Iconoclast, Skeptic 1141 Posts 8/03 | I have seen covers that use words like "worthless", "useless" and "pigs" to describe girls. Sometimes this is right next to her picture as she looks at me with a sweet, friendly smile. I just can't imagine ever getting this attitude into my mind. Here is a lovely young woman, a real person who is smiling at a camera for me, inviting me to see her lovemaking, and someone is calling her "worthless". It's weird and it's cruel. Someone must think it sells I suppose. |

| Loraine Senior Member 1559 Posts 3/04 | You know when I looked at the marketing and copywriting of the movie I couldn't quite believe the total dumbing down of the copy. I had a lot of trouble reconciling his description of the work with the outward appearance of the product based on the words used to describe its contents. It does seem like there is some competition out there to outdo eachother with inane and cringeworthy copy. As Licker points out it's kind of weird and cruel. I had a look around DVSX.com the other day, I don't own any of their stuff but what did strike me was that in the majority the copy writing on thier box covers doesn't make me want to run screaming to the hills. In fact the series like Truly Nice Ass/Tits are actually described with some admiration for the women and the physical attractions of the women who appear in them. As Kperv noted cute titles and descriptions just seem like more fun. |

I love titles like Kung-Fu Girls: They'll kick your ass and you'll love it with back covers reading They'll fuck and suck the enemy into submission. Kung-Fu Girls rule! Behold the power of pussy! And they tend to portray the women in a positive way.
Unfortunately they sometimes take the low road too.
