Does Traci Lords really appear in 'Traci I Love You' or is she edited / censored out ? I sometimes see the DVD floating around even on Amazon, she did the film in France after just turning 18, she bought the rights from Cabarello, maybe she edited herself out, she retained the rights to this day. Well if anyone has it would appreciate some feedback.
She does star in it and it is her only legal title. Editing herself out would be almost impossible. Caballero released the title on VHS. Valentine Video released the movie on DVD. The DVD is oddly cut, portions seem to be randomly removed.
The biggest Traci Lords conspiracy theory is that she schemed to be caught as underage only after she'd secured the rights to the only legal video she shot, knowing that it would be in demand as soon as all her other content was taken off the market. There's some discussion of that theory in the Jon Ronson podcast about the scandal. Seems very plausible.
Canadian laws/rules are different so they re-edit EVERY adult movie to their standards. That's why we used to seel them rights to distribute each movie (within Canada only) for a flat fee with the buyer having full control over edits, cover art, etc. Maybe that's why that version had odd/different cuts than the original US/European releases did. ;) -T. von.
I highly doubt that an 18 year old actress would have been able to secure rights to a movie. And what would she get out of it? Porn isn't Hollywood where there are lucrative broadcasting rights and residuals.
many adult films have a Montreal address listed on the back, like Girlfriends Films. Is Valentines Video also based in Canada ? cause they released the DVD version if I'm not mistaken
It's not quite this simple. Even within Canada, content standards vary. Each province has content regulations. But some don't. Ontario and Alberta are pretty loose, don't really have much in the way of guidelines aside from the common sense issues, no underage performers, sex with animals, etc. Quebec won't allow scenes with blood or markings on skin. Depiction of that will get the movie get tossed. Quebec has an independent firm called Regis du Cinema that screens incoming movies and either approves or dismisses them before they are released to suppliers. Every DVD sold in Quebec has to have a blue coloured approval sticker on it. Any store in Montreal carrying DVDs without that sticker is subject to a big fine. To what degree this is enforced is debatable. BC (such as Vancouver) is the worst, they are banning sale of Adult DVDs in stores altogether. So it's not as simple as U.S. versus Canada. Regs can vary even within a country. Importing these type videos can be problematic depending on what province you live in. A person in BC importing a title may have it confiscated at Customs whereas someone in Ontario or Alberta importing the same title may not have an issue. It is very strange. In the USA, do individual States have different content regulations , I hear Missouri bans any sort of bondage.
