Does porn belong to the american soft power? Most of the professional porn watched worldwide is produced in the United States or in neighbouring Canada. As an European I think that porn belongs to the american soft power like music, movies, sports and fastfood chains. Porn is also mostly in English.

Porn gives a very american vision of the society: American way of live, individualism, consumerism, multiculturalism, racism..., in a very stereotypical way. The wealthy suburbs often shown in US porn belong to this cliché of the american society. Everyone is rich and sucessfull.

Some themes featured in american porn could be strange, especially for Europeans like me (I am from France): religion like in steretypical scenes like "my religious stepmother" (religion is not so important in Europe than the States), multiculturalism ("interracial" scenes)... Also the milf phenomenon, born with the american movie "American Pie".

I found american porn also very racist with all the "ethnic" and "racial" categories: "black", "latin", "white"... Racialisation and multicuralism is seen in Europe as something very american, even racism exists in european countries...

^ I think soft power means cultural dominance while hard power refers to military dominance.

Exactely!

American pornographic scenes contain a lot of american clichés which sound weird to people from other countries, especially in Europe. Maybe also in Canada and other anglophones countries. The stereotype of ladies from the middle class living in the suburbs (not very common in Europe, where also poor people lives in those areas), the latent racism, the religious shy girls (religion is less important in western Europe than in the United States). Europeans often laugh about the importance of religion in the USA.
