I think that some porn fans enjoy the "dirtyness" of the act, the fact that just about anyone can do oral/vaginal, but it takes a truly dirty girl to open up her ass to complete strangers. IMO anal is so popular because it's part of the dom/submissive, love/hate, pain/pleasure thing that rules in porn today. Directors, and a very vocal number of fans, don't want sexvids of a girl just having "sex," but want to see her being "dominated" by big-muscled, warrior-looking, baldheaded men [yes..comic book/video game characters]. And usually with multiple guys. I don't know if this fantasy is "healthy" or not, but anal sex is now a "requirement" of being a female performer in porn. The days are gone when a Jenna Jameson or Jesse Jane could become a Big Star without doing anal. Newbies break into porn, doing anal in their first video. And even most of the Vivid Girls have signed contracts to do at least one anal scene.

Good question. I've had anal sex with most of my girlfriends over the years. With some it was a great experiences, but other times it was just painful (for her) and ruined the sex for both of us. Porn performers are professional sex workers. It is not unreasonable to expect from professionals things one would not expect from non-professionals. It is by no means unreasonable to expect porn professionals will make the effort to become skilled at, comfortable with, and regular performers of nonstandard sexual acts such as anal, but not require the same commitments of your girlfriend or, indeed, yourself.

To say that it is reasonable to ask things of professionals that we would not of non-professionals is not to say that professionals should be restricted to the out of the ordinary (no more than it is to say that non-professionals should be restricted to the ordinary). What we expect of professionals is precisely that they should have a broader range than the non-pros, a range that includes both the ordinary and the out of the ordinary. Does that mean that every performer has to do every sex act? No. Like doctors, each will have their own specialisms. Does it mean that every movie has to be a festival of extreme sex? No. No more than every surgery has to be brain surgery. But it does mean that it is reasonable to expect that performers have something more in their sexual repertoire than the average civilian. Just as it is reasonable to expect the doctor to have some sort of medical skills that most laymen do not. The implication of Steph's question was (I think) that it is unfair to ask of others things that you would not of yourself.* I say it is no more unfair to single out porn professionals as people who should be more open to anal sex than it is to single out the doctor in the room if someone is in need of CPR.

That was not the implication at all. I was asking men, not women. If done well anal feels good for a woman. Most men in real life say they prefer vaginal sex.
