I note that mainstream film and television have their "summer hiatus", and that all professional sports have an "off season". I was wondering whether the US adult industry has a hiatus or off season (not counting, of course, the annual week on the piss in Las Vegas!)?
Surely there must be a break where female performers can undergo knee reconstruction surgery and male performers can recover from groin strain (Osteoitis Pubis). Also a period where those performers temporarily lacking sexual energy in their performances can be sent to Europe to fuck their way back into form.
If there is an off season, does that mean that if some 18 year old hottie arrives in LA straight off a bus from Ohio in July she will be met with locked studio doors and signs saying come back in the Autumn? I couldn't imagine anything sadder.
Seriously though, is there a particular time of the year when film production in the US adult industry is particularly light on, whether due to shortages of technical crews or other factors?

I agree with the Lone Gunman. If there's a time that shooting slows down, it's December and the first week of January. A lot of studios are preparing for the Vegas convention, and a lot of the performers are enjoying their holiday.
But if a girl was to come to LA during that time, there would still be enough directors around. I remember coming to LA for the first time during the second week of December, and there were plenty of scenes being shot.
Right AFTER the Vegas convention, there are tons of people shooting.
People take their vacations whenever they choose to. There's always more product coming out, more scenes being shot, and more girls available to work.
Besides what Tricia noted above, I've also noticed that August seems to be a quiet time for filmings--perhaps because of vacations, the summertime heat in the San Fernando Valley, etc; things seem to get back to normal right after Labor DaY.
I don't know if porn has an "off season" but it definitely has a jack-off season that lasts for 11 months out of the year, slowing only to visit relatives on the holidays and seek medical attention.
Summer is deathly slow in porn stores. Only your hard core (no pun intended) customers come in. A good day in the winter may bring in as much as a week in the summer that is all good weather.

This brings up an interesting question. I have always wondered how porn stars spend their holidays. Do they spend them in the same way that everyone else does? For example, do they return home to spend the holidays with their families, or do they all just hang out amongst their other fellow porn stars? If they do return home, are their families constantly haranguing them about being in porn? I guess I am just basically wondering how porn stars go back home and face their families during the holidays, if they go back. Since you hardly ever hear porn stars discussing their families (I guess for obvious reasons), this is just something I always wondered about. And if they are estranged from their families, does it take a bigger toll on them during the holidays?
Yes, they all take their holidays in exactly the same way.
They all hang out in that big house you've seen a thousand times and spend the whole time having spontaneous orgies.
Seriously though, there's several hundred people (at least) in the industry at any given time, so I'm sure they spend their holidays in as many different ways as any other group of several hundred people that happen to be sales assistants, or police officers, or schoolteachers, or house painters..
Actually it's a good thing there's not a lot of new movies coming out, gives me the chance to buy some older DVD's like updating my Dreamgirls and older More Dirty Debutantes collection.
I agree on this - summer is defiantly the slowest season as far as sales and numbers go - it always has been the slow season. Buyers are out with their kids of off on vacations with family. And, the buyers also take their vacations then. Holidays also throw a small wrench into the works.
