So this is my first forum post...finally in a room with other connasseurs of porn....Something has been bothering for a while now....I dig Jesse Jane and Teagan the problem is that they are contracted with Digital Playground, the bigger problem is that the only great director they have is Robby D., an ever huger problem is that their recent releases have been directed by Celeste. The reason this provides to be a problem to me is that music plays through all her movies and its not even good music. At least Robby D will have music and you can hear sex noises this chick however doesn't believe in that.....examples: Marvelous, and Hush...this type of stuff is only meant to be made by Andrew Blake he's the only one to pull it off..It just sux to rub one out to ur favorite girl and you see she's in ecstasy and you can't hear it...it takes alot outta the experience....am I wrong????

you are absolutly right in my opinion. loud and annoying music sucks in porn. if i remember the terrible loud music for example in the jenna james provocateur movie.. who really wants that in porn? and a lot of fast cuts in the movies are also a reason for me switch off.

Sort of agree. I for one think for the most part the sounds of the chick getting done is where you hear the most fakery. Meaning that if she isn't into it you hear it in the voice first. Even if she is into it they just keep blabbing that "Oooyeah?! Yeah?! YEAH?!" stuff that is sooo played out.

A lot of times I watch porn with the sound down and my stereo playing what I want to hear.

I used to be completely against music in porn. But it can be, and has been, done right, tastefully and in a way that actually enhances the experience. The trouble is that 90% of the time, it's done in a way that is so obnoxious and irritating, you can't help but wonder what they were thinking. Did they even watch the thing before they shipped it out?

If I see lips moving but can't hear a word over somebody's twisted idea of rock or romantic music, I'll probably never bother with that studio (or at least that director) again.

this director in particular uses odd instrumentals....not even anything rock or i'd completely understand it sounds sorta like a cross between circus music and big band music its sorta a buzz kill....

Consider doing the following (not that I am an expert or anything, just a guy stating an example of what works or himself); If it is music and no voice anyway, make up a cd of you favrite fuck music and play it when you watch the digital playground DVD's. What could it hurt right?

You would be surprised at what works with porn just randomly. I nearly laughed my head off when I was watching some gonzo film and my Ipod put on Simon and Garfunkle's "Cecilia." As it turns out, it really worked great.

People have long complained about Celeste's soundtracks. Since she keeps doing it, one can only assume that it isn't hurting sales.

I can understand the frustration of watching performers without being able to hear them however I think it's important to understand what a director's goal is in making a porn flick. Taking into account how much detail is applied to backgrounds, lighting & outfits it's obvious that Celeste is looking at porn as an art form. If you can't appreciate that perspective then no matter if your favorite star is featured you're making a mistake in picking up her product.

Different porn suits different purposes and for me after watching/reviewing scene after scene of hardcore DP, creampie, cumfarting, squirting, blowbang, gagging, etc. sex a Celeste movie is exactly what I need to cleanse my palate. If that makes any sense.

I love the sounds that a deliciously lubricious pussy makes.

I also want to hear the sounds of skin slapping against skin (not hand slapping, but hips against buttocks, etc...)

I have long been a proponent of a "Music On/Off" DVD feature that lets the viewer choose to watch the DVD with or without a music soundtrack. I started a thread on it a long time ago, and the topic reappears on this forum every few months. Only one person didn't like the idea, and he was a director.

There are many DVDs that I would like much better if they did not have a music soundtrack.

It's not difficult; I don't understand why more companies have not added this feature. Anabolic/Diabolic consistently include this feature and I have seen a few DVDs by Devil's Films and Madness Pictures that also have this feature.

Am I the only one who never watches porn with the sound up? I cannot stand the sounds they make - all the fake moaning and screaming, plus hearing the guys grunting and saying stupid stuff just kills it for me.

Music kills porn. Unless it is very carefully chosen, it spoils the scene.

Girls who get very loud and start screaming all sorts of nonsense whilst they get fucked to fake pleasuer are a turn-off. Euro or latina porn stars are better - more quiet.

Putting music over the scene is pure laziness so you don't have to do any audio edits from any camera noises. Some light background music is fine but when you have it over the scene it's because they don't want to take the time to edit and clean up the audio.

If it's creative, the way Jonni Darkko uses it, then I like it .... but that's part of an overall style, and most gonzo is not concerned with style. William H makes some good booty tracks to go with his scenes, and some folks (Van Styles, Joanna Angel, Dana D) bring in original music, not so much to play constantly but as an element ... I really want to hear the sex more than anything, so in general I agree with you ... though a few directors are smart about it, and make it work.

If I wanted to hear music while watching porn I can push mute and put on MY favorite tunes on my stereo. I agree with Jewel, its pure laziness.

>:/ Well this is odd. I have to agree with the turn up the stereo thing, I do it too. But I have to disagree with Modano and Jewel on the "pure Laziness" part.

When I am editing (I do not edit porn) I can tell you that cutting the voice track is pretty durn easy as long as you are using a non-linear edit system. I can't imagine that much is cut with beta to beta rigs anymore.

And the movie in question here uses original music throughout, at least I think it is original music. If that is the case there are two ways the Post process goes. Either they take the music and cut using the music as an artistic element, thereby using the feel of the music to guide the cutting to build on the creators vsion.
or
They edit the scene and record the music to picture. Now I am pretty sure that the second way is not done since that is considered "scoring."

In the first example they are doing quite a bit of work with the music, not to mention the guy that wrote it and the performers, recording engineers etc. So original music and and artistic edit based on it is not saving anyone any time or money.

I don't doubt that there are those that would slap a piece of music down to cover bad audio but that probem is started when they shot the footage. Sometimes you can't "fix it in post" like everyone says you can.
Then again, somtimes you can. But for the times I have seen music in porn I think most times it is added for and attempt at helping the mood.

And lastly, let's not damn the poor porn editor or producer just for using a little music. It is a natural course for those that create video. Pictures to music. It is done. It exists. There are whole channels devoted to it. Not to mention movies and television.

I have to admit. I would rather ear music of my own choosing and lower the audio of the fucking. But that is me

I agree. I think her videos are some of the worst. I still rent them if I really like a few girls in the video.

If this is the same Celeste that used to be in front of the camera she should go back in front. B/c after all her surgery she was hot.

Wrong Celeste. Celeste the director was Bunny Luv the performer.

It seems to me that people bitch and moan an awful lot about Celeste's general approach to making movies. Why do you people keep buying/renting/watching them? You know what the drill is going to be. It's not as though there aren't thousands of other movies to choose from.

What I found most annoying about "Hush" was the very first scene was shot completely in slow motion. If there was any real heat on the set the day Jesse fucked Jean Val Jean, it was completely lost in translation. I've read that about other Celeste features, too.

I can take music in porn if it is not cheesy! But what i can't stand and totally hate is when there is just music and you can't hear the proformers! You should always hear the proformers no matter what!

But what i hate even more than that is when the director makes the sex in slo-mo! DO NOT SLOW down the sex on purpose!

I hate the music in my porn, especially in mainstream gonzo where it's supposed to make the scene more romantic. Sex is not romantic! Sex is dirty and filthy and wonderful!
Why I stick with the real hardcore shit.

But I guess couples need to be treated more gently at first.

good point in a sense...but if my favorite starlet is in a movie it usually doesn't matter who the director is I'll check it out...the problem is that by relying on her its causing me not to care as much for the starlets i once loved and become disinterested in them. which sucks ass. I've actually stopped seein her movies and just suggest my costumers to Robby D. joints cuz his are the best at DPG.

one thing i would never call robby d is lazy. and celeste and robby d are intertwined at digital, so i would guess that the music is because of his/her taste rather than laziness. trust me, robby d works his ass off.

As a long time director/editor/videographer, and fan, I personally like good music with a scene. So long as the music score was well chosen and fits the content, mood, tempo and pacing of the scene. Than it is a complete experience for the senses. The music must add value to the scene. Not detract from it or overpower it.

Most of the comments attempt to lump all video's shot into one category. Sorry but all directors/editors and video's aren't created equal and lets leave it at that. If you don't care one iota about production values or creativity with your video's. Than you probably don't want music either. Some of us directors take great pains to shoot and edit good audio soundtracks and still prefer to use music in its proper context.

I personally pride myself on getting the voice and music mix right. We start by shooting with very good external microphones, not built in camera mics, that 99% of Gonzo videos are shot with. In post production we use top of the line audio editing applications to enhance and clarify the voice track. Our voice track levels are placed well above the background music level when the scene calls for it. There are times in a scene when silence or bad audio is much more detracting than having properly used music.

Music = heat killer. I'm glad music is mostly used in features not gonzo so I don't have a problem with it a lot of time.

Okay I have to reply. I have worked with Robby D twice know. One film is not out yet the other is. It is Shay all american girl. I have seen a few reviews that have complained of the music so here goes. Digital playground has a large couple customer base. Being that i am both a customer and performer. I see it both ways, So please hear me out. When at home having home sex. I get off on what I see so when I have to compete with sound of another woman getting it and her pleasure. I as the consumer at that point enjoy seeing and not so much hearing. as far as a performer goes. i am the cheesy "oh yeah oh yeah girl". I love it and want other people to feel envolved that are watching if they are SOLO at that point. When I am solo I also want to hear that extra somethin somethin to help the mood. So in the end I say that Celest and Robby D have a great thing going and aside from that I enjoy the other types of as some would say tackey "oh yeah, oh yeah" To each their own my friends.

Totally agree Walter.

I do not like to hear music in porn.

I remember the old porn movies I used to watch, as soon as the sex scene would start, they'd always run this cheesy music over the top, very annoying.

I always suspected it was as Jewel mentioned, just laziness.

A good scene for me is not just about the pictures, it's also about hearing the sounds of sex, not a music soundtrack!

I have nothing against Robby D. In my opinion he's the only director at DPG that is smoking as far a directorial skills go. He doesn't rely just on the music with the performers or use shitty music and he'll at least let you hear Jesse moan but Celeste does not. In all reality alot of customers aren't looking at who is directing the movie they're looking at who's on the box and that is what sells BUT some customers feel deceived when they buy the movie and can't hear the girl or when something is on the boxcover and its not in the movie at all which is something DPG is notorious for doing (i.e. Control 2 with Nautica Thorn on the cover but she doesn't fuck at all???? wtf????) they complain to the retailer and the retailer can't do anything about and then the retailer looks like the bad guy and loses business in return. Which may account for why people buy the movies watch em once and never watch em again.

I think it is a matter of certain taste and Digital Playground is catering to a certain niche of porn viewers, which isn’t well received by the general gonzo viewing public.

Personally I hate the music of the scenes and slow motion camera work. It seems a cheap way to make it look artistic.

Maybe its laziness, maybe it’s a choice, either way it seems like there are more against comments as to the for comments for Digital Playground’s films on this board.

Electric or techno music can be effective, especially in compilations,
or possibly in the introduction scenes, but otherwise no.
