There's a miniscule chance it might be some anatomical defect, but 1,000,000 more likely it's psychological or behaviorally (inadvertently training yourself behaviorally is common) etiology. However, understand that attempting to adjust your reaction to sexual sensations may initially get your brain stuck on "not yet", refusing to pull the trigger, which sounds like the situation that BYOB_Kenobi has gotten himself into. Your brain should figure it out, eventually, particularly if you consciously acknowledge what's going on, and then you won't have to repeat the learning process, nor mess with desensitizers, though you may owe your girlfriend a nice reward for putting up with your on-the-job training.
