I usually don't go for the newest technologies until they get proven and refined but this time I decided to add the relatively-new Dolby Atmos capability to this system. The system ended up being a 5.2.2 system. I have mixed feelings about it. When Atmos works it is great. Most of the time it is not a factor that I can detect. There's not a lot of media formatted in it yet, but when you have a live sporting event and a sharp sound engineer doing the set up, then you can really hear what an Atmos-capable system can do. When Atmos is really on, you get more of a 3-D surround sound effect. On sporting events with a good sound man there is a lot more ambient arena sound with the PA so you feel more like you are at the event. I was watching The Masters 4K UHD coverage last weekend. Their sound was so rich you would have sworn the chirping birds were in the room with you. I would not recommend spending a lot of money toward Dolby Atmos any time in the near future, but keep reading reviews in years to come to see if it is something you might want to adopt sometime.
