Don't import adultmovies to germany. You would break the law.
Finding porn in mail is not the most important thing for the customs, of course, but if they find something you will pay for the consequences. If the content seized by customs is harmless AND it were one or two units ... it could be, that your content will be confiscated only.

Sending DVDs without the cases is not an alternate. If the customs find one (for germany) illegal package they will open all letters with this absend. And you could be in trouble again.

Importing adult movies from outside EU is a risk and could be very expensive. Inside the EU the sending to germany is still illegal and there is still a small chance getting caught (MCC).

But in germany you have an (better) alternate, in opposite to other countries:
You will find videostores in every town(!) where you should rent or buy what you want. And that is legal.

good luck

But how could the German authorities prosecute an importer from another country with a different set of laws?

I doubt if they could extradite a U.S citizen for supplying porn (and thank god for that!)

That is simply not true. I had some packages confiscated by customs and other packages sent weeks later arrived without problem all from the same online shop.
It seems more like they check randomly some packages.
And i think german laws can do nothing against US-Citizens.
First of all buying porn and bringing it into germany ain't illegal. There's only a law that not allowes to sent porn via mail through germany that's why custom confiscats such packages. (Shall be some kind of youth-protection so they don't get it.)
Vega could it be you own or work in one of these videostores ?

@sir w.: german laws don't affect US-people, cause they are out of reach :-)

@nwn:
>I had some packages confiscated by customs and other packages sent weeks later arrived without problem all from the same online shop.

They will check all packages at this special day. I didn't say they check all packages from this absent for the future. But the customs are not stupid. Remember laseredge. The chance your package will be checked increases every time.
You said it by yourself: "I had some packages confiscated by customs"

> First of all buying porn and bringing it into germany ain't illegal.

Thats not true for all cases !!!

> There's only a law that not allowes to sent porn via mail through germany that's why custom confiscats such packages.

only ... yeah ... only one year in the prison ...

I'm not joking!! If the owner of adultdvdnow or excalibur would be a german, they would arrest him as soon he steps a foot inside germany.

vega,

sorry to tell you, but you mix up lotta things from an experience you just made.

I don´t have the patience now to explain it all to you, but one thing anyway: Before you scare away others with way wrong information, you´d better do some reliable research...
It is simply not true that somebody who sent adult stuff from another place to Germany would have to fear any consequences in case he/she ever would want to visit Germany.
Germany´s Department of Public Prosecution (oder zu deutsch: die böse Staatsanwaltschaft) does not list the sender´s of such packages, nor does it take any other actions against these persons/companies. Confiscation and destruction of the adult material is all they do. Plain and simple. No problem for the foreign sender.

Looking for a way of importing stuff from a place outside of Germany?
Well, try to import via the adress of your local videostore, or talk the store-guy into importing, whatever.

Lots of other opportunities avail, in case you are a little smart it won´t take you long to realize what´s possible and what´s not.
Anyway, good luck.

I have read a lot of stupid entries in this forum already but Vega beats them by far.

I have imported porn DVDs for about $ 8.000 in the last 18 months from US-based online stores. I have had 3 occasions where letters have been confiscated. Two of those where from lasersedge and I blame it on their labeling mainly. Nothing happens apart from me losing the DVDs.

The sender can not be prosecuted for obvious reasons.

So, Vega, inform yourself before you distribute misleading information. I would rather risk the loss of one shipment in every 50 and still save about 50% on the German retail price than paying the rip-off prices of German stores!

@vega
That's nothing new what you tell us. But if you buy from the right US-stores the risk that the customs seized it goes to zero. I have imported porn DVDs for about 4 year now, get some letters from our friends in Frankfurt, but you don't get in trouble, cause it's not against the law.

German video stores: Too few US titles and way too expensive!

Today I fetched 2 adult DVDs from my local customers: No problem, if you're are friendly, they are friendly. Law is the one thing, but how it is converted in practice the other. The guys in Frankfurt are a little bit freaky about converting our law I think!

We are talking about different things. Lets talk about import porn to germany through mail from outside europe.

1) with the exact value-declaration (above 25$) there would be a high chance customs open your packet to control import taxes -> they find porn -> they confiscat it always
2) without or worng declaration (for example as gift) we talk about smuggling. And there is still a chance they open your packet.

Buying or renting at your local videostore is safe and legal. But hey ... its your decision. You are old enough.
Good luck for further tricky imports. :-)

@brazil
For 8000$ you had to pay ~1500$ import taxes. I suppose you didn't. ;-)

@DvD-freak:
Getting back porn from customs will never be the normal case. Thats an illusion.

Come on chaps, let's keep it civil. Clearly many of our German posters have had experiences quite contrary to Vega's suggestions, but nonetheless everyone has the opportunity to explain themselves fully (e.g. Vega - what has motivated you to post) and in a manner that respects each other's views.

It does seem to be the case, however, that with a little knowledge and a acceptance that on occasion packages may be seized it's perfectly possible to import porn to Germany without spending time "inside"...

Doesn't the Germany have some sort of free trade thing going with the rest of the countries involved in the EU that would nulify a law like this?

Selling porn by mail isn't allowed in germany. But you are right, packets inside the EU aren't controlled often, especially not for this reason. It would be an better alternative to order adultstuff in the EU, for sure.

There are also restrictions on importing porn to the UK - as those who've found their naughty Dutch imports have been seized will testify - but my loose understanding is that there is provision in the free trade agreement for countries to opt out on moral grounds.

vega,

i live in Hamburg, the 2nd biggest town in Germany, and i was in nearly 15 Video-stores and none of them had titles of Anabolic/Diabolic, Devil's Film, DVSX, PlatinumX or Redlight.
So, in this regard your suggestion is useless, because i don't think that a german customer ordering porn from united states is not looking for private dvd's or kelly trump as he can get ton's of it in german video-stores. f i buy porn from USA i am looking for high quality porn studios like Diabolic, Redlight or PlatinumX. Everywhere i have been looking in german video stores you get always the same poor shit. They are even not worth the money if you rent them.

And rergarding porn my mail in Germany: I am a member of an online video store in Germany. Recently they have introduced the possibility to rent also porn. So, a few weeks all went fine, then they have to stop delivering, because another video store said that this is illegal. So, my online video-store went to court and they won the process. Now you can rent porn by mail, you just had to go once to your post office and confirm your identity and age by postident. So, it is absolutely legal to rent porn by mail.

cheers,

Patrick

There is a reason they seem to have the same stuff in one region. But thats another story ... especially in your city.
I didnt realize that some people buy so many adultDVDs. In this case you have to look for alternatives other than your local videostore of course.
Thats NOT importing ;-)
I have a problem with this kind of stores. You find that in nonporn business as well. You often have to make the tiring identity ckeck without any knowledge of their supply.

That's exactly the main problem. You don't find titles of the good US companies in local videostores. They only sell the shit from German companies and this shit is way too expensive.

So buying porn in local videostores isn't an alternative for me. The only solution: buying online. And if a package is confiscated nothing happens besides that you don't get your DVDs and your money is lost.

Local video stores in Germany - pah!
If I want to buy US-DVDs in Germany I have to pay 40 - 50 Euro (!) for the good ones (Evil Angel, Digital Sin etc.).
On the other hand I have the opportunity to buy them online for about 25 $ (!)
What would you do? Other example: The Fasionistas costs in the local store 80 Euro - that's nearly 100 $...

Of course, there are not only US-DVDs available. And that's even worse: European labels offering some mixtures of american stuff. "Nicely" dubbed. argh No extras, no original sound...

And then we have some stuff produced in Germany. I don't know why, but the girls in these videos are just - not sexy. It's really a pity 'cause nearly every single day I see beautiful girls out there - but in hardcore flics...
Besides, the moanings of these girls are always (?) monotonous, boring.

Question: Why don't these stores by their stuff through mailorders like adultdvdtoday (or whatever). With all the discounts they would receive they could offer much better prices - and much better quality than now.

Want to add: I live in Essen, and you CAN buy good US-DVDs there. but as I have written, they are more than twice as expensive plus you have to look exactly that you get the original versions.

honeysucker, I can't speak specifically to German retailers, but we do have several retailers who buy through our kickback program. It's probably an awareness thing. Businesses who've been buying from the same distributor for years tend to continue to do so.

@ honeysucker: YGM!

____________

Guess it´s absolutely right what steph said: Most of all it´s an awareness thing. Those retailers who discovered the possibilities of self-importing do make some good money by doing so.
