I have a couple of RLD DVDs that fell victim to disc rot but now I have my first Vivid DVD with the same problem.

Anyone else with an older copy of "Double Cross" having problems playing this disc? I've tried playing it on several DVD players, including my pc DVD Rom which usually plays everything. My DVD player just locks up.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried cleaning the disc with alcohol and a cotton bud ? I had the same problem solved this way with "Spies in the House of Love".

The disc isn't dirty. And I've never heard of using alcohol to clean discs. I usually use liquid hand soap and water if it's smudged. Anyway, I tried using the alcohol but the disc still will not read.

Hmmmm. Most of my second disc for Groupie Love doesn't want to play, yet shows no sign of scratches or damage. Did you see anything physically wrong with your disc before trying the alcohol?

No. There were no scratches or anything. The 1st hour of the feature was all pixels (and I don't mean the occasional pixel, I mean Taylor Hayes looking like Tetris puking). My PC would not even play it. I cleaned the disc from inward to outwards with a cotton bud and 45° alcohol (the kind you use for zits) as I do with audio CDs that jump, let dry and 3 hours later it played like a charm. Of course I'm not saying it's the solution to FF, but it can't hurt to try. I also must say the DVD was new & just out of wraps when I played it.

Yes, Vivid sucks - poor DVD quality:

- BLACK ROOM (Vivid) (2 copies) (Neither copy would play)

- DEEP INSIDE TIA BELLA (Vivid)
... Many special features on many of the Deep Inside(s) are “rotting” often play okay at first and then slowly deteriorate ... and then (like Tia) die completely.

I picked up a bunch of Vivids when Tower Video Outlet was moving(6 for $20),the only problem disc I had was Rearview Roxanne Hall, the disc would freeze right after the Tia Bella lesbo scene, then I would have to power off the player, start it up again to eject it.

try to freeze the disc for a couple of hours, play after disc has 'de-freezed' again (of no help when disc is severely rotten)
cleaning with water (soapish or otherwise) will destroy discs faster; use alcohol-based products

my trick: clean with Disc Doctor's Miracle CD Cleaner, dry for 1 hour, freeze for the night, 'de-freeze' during next day: I'll pick some 30 discs at the time: effect lasts some 6 months (when stored dry, dirtfree, stable temperature)

no disc will escape rot in the long run ...
