Hi, anybody can compare two, DVD studios offer their content in their websites as full hd, that 1080p videos not close to real Blu-ray quality, i wonder how DVDs look when upscaled, DVDs should higher bit rate than web scenes, i think they may look better than web versions. My question not specific about a website, i have full HD videos many different websites.
Evil Angel/Mike Andriano 8 MB/s HD Downloads Look Slightly Better Than DVD. Brazzers 12 MB /s HD Downloads Will Trump The DVD Version. 12 MB/s to 18 MB /s Would Be Ideal. Customers Bitch About File Size. They Want a 4k Download To Come In At 100 mb. The HD Downloads Offered By vixcr (non xxx) Are 18 MB /s.
Thanks sunfish, you said even 8MB/s downloads better than DVD, my hopes about DVDs are dead. Brazzers a web based company, this is not a surprise. Websites already offer many different sizes, why this peoples don't download smaller version instead of bitching about file sizes. I don't think companies are innocent at all, bigger size files mean to need for better servers, more space etc.
^ You say that but with HD, Full HD, 4K and UHD being buzzwords, that stuff sells so the cost of greater bandwidth and storage space is justified by those paying for HD downloads. It's rather naive to think those who bitch file sizes will just tuck their tail between their legs and download the smaller version. Of course they'll bitch and try to drag everyone else down with them. With regard to the comment about 8 MB/s HD download from Evil Angel appearing better than DVD, while I agree with snufish's comment, you shouldn't treat that statement as a solid benchmark. You can have transcoded or upscaled video in the same or higher bitrate but it can look like crap.
JigglyBoobs i didn't understand what you mean in your last paragraph, i ask for a purely visual comparison, is that 1080p Evil Angel files look better than their DVD counterparts ? Also VOD sites like Gamelink sell full movies in 1080p , i wonder if they better quality than membership site downloads.
While 1080p downloads from sites like Brazzers, Evil Angel, Digital Sin, Jules Jordan, etc... may not be on the same level of quality as a well mastered BluRay, they will blow the doors off of an upscaled dvd which is only 480p. It's not even close. Bitrates are not always a reliable measure. DVDs use an old MPEG2 codec whereas most downloads use h264 (Mp4) which is a much more efficient and flexible encoding codec.
^ DVDs are a 480p format. Regardless if the box says shot in HD or not. If you buy a dvd even a brand new one, you are only getting a 480p video. There was a short lived format a few years ago called HD-DVD but it's not compatible with standard dvd players, and it got crushed by Bluray.
My point is that a given bitrate is not an exhaustive in indication of how good the video quality will be. There are plenty of factors that will affect the video quality beyond the video bitrate such as the codec, the imaging sensor, the optics, to name a few.
I know DVDs are 480 p format , but a shot in HD DVD has a better picture quality than a native 480p anyway. But i understand not good enough to compare with 1080p web downloads.
^ Has anybody in mainstream porn even filmed anything in native 480p since the move away from the 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't quite understand what point you're trying to make.
I dont understand what is your point. All new titles already shot in HD, i wonder how they look when upscaled, very simple. My question not about native 480p content, DVDs best possible picture quality for native 480p content.

^ Thanks for that information. In the past, I've used Bitrates as a measure of resolution quality. Just one more reason to say goodbye to DVDs and switch to downloads. I've yet to have a downloaded scene purchased from Hot Movies freeze up.
You were the one who brought natively-shot 480p content into the thread for some reason. I take it you don't understand your own posts? That would go some way towards explaining why I couldn't make sense of it either... Especially why you keep talking about "HD DVDs", as though the source material is any different for the web version of the same release. Anyway, what exactly are you even asking about? Assuming a competent encoding job (not always a given, especially on VOD sites), as others have already said bitrate and codec will be the main determinants in visual quality. Okay, and the display used...1080p on my 1366x768 notebook screen would be pointless. If it's a DVD that uses the maximum bitrate of nearly 10 Mbit/s, then yeah, that's obviously going to look better than than a 480p web release encoded with the "usual" codec and bitrate (H264, practically always below 3 Mbit/s), and it might also look somewhat better than 720p content encoded at low-ish bitrates despite the need for upscaling. It's going to look worse than 720p encoded at proper bitrates. (At a guess, >6 Mbit/s H264 should probably outperform DVDs, maybe even lower bitrates.) And it's definitely going to look worse than any 1080p encode unless the person producing the file had no clue whatsoever. None of that is exactly revelatory or difficult to figure out. And of course, there are DVDs mastered at (much) less than the maximum possible bitrate when companies are cramming a lot of content into them, which will tilt things further towards the downloadable versions.
No i didn't said there's new titles shot in SD, i just explain i talk about shot in HD DVDs. DVDs and web scenes came from same source i didn't said anything different, this is not mean to their quality will be similar, blu-ray disc anyway better than web versions when available. I don't need technical information, don't being obsessed about bit rate parts of my post, that was just my thought, this is why i had opened this topic and ask peoples. I asking for information what it is, my question is very simple anybody can compare 1080p web version and DVD (when upscaled) version of same movies , Evil Angel is one example only. Thanks to snufish my question responded. I understand web scenes look better than upscaled DVD versions. In this case my hopes about DVDs are empty. Simply i will not buy shot in HD DVDs. If peoples want to add something this topic and continue discussion this is cool for me. You can ignore this thread.
It's not just bitrates, I've seen 1080p 10 MB/s bitrate downloads that looked like crap, pixelation every time the action was fast and downloads at half that bitrate that where smooth and crisp. If you just throw your master footage through some standard presets in your software (or don't use professional software) you should not be surprised your endproduct will look like shit, Jacco
^ It also depends on what's being featured in the scene - scenes shot outdoors tend to look much worse at the same bitrate because there are often lots of finely-structured details in the background (vegetation, water surfaces, anything lighted unevenly) whose encoding "sucks up" a lot of space in the compressed data, compared to the fairly uniform backgrounds in living rooms and the like. Many websites unfortunately go for identical bitrates between scenes, not identical visual quality. (From the sites I've been subscribed to lately, I think Cumlouder was the only one to use adaptive bitrate settings...) Edit: Another site that comes to mind (my last subscription was a while ago though) is European network WTFPass. Edited by - shalalin on 8/26/2015 12:20:11 PM
You are incorrect about Evil Angel. Their 1080p downloads are only 6800 kbps(6.8 MB/s) which are pure garbage, and only about half the bitrate of other premium sites. I only bother with the 720p vids on their site. I agree though, it's funny to see people bitch about file sizes of good HD porn. These same people are too cheap to buy another hard drive, so they want to fit as much horrendous quality porn on their hard drive as possible. These same people likely cannot afford a membership either so not sure why some sites cater to them with crap quality HD vids.
I think it's just them finding a sweet spot for the majority of their customers. It's a whole lot different from VHS & DVD Days, while a 480p video might look acceptable to me, a guy with a home threatre with a 300inch screen won't like it so much. A video on Vimeo encoded in 1080p 5 MB /s (5,000 mbps) would be acceptable to some while a Youtube 1080p 3 MB /s would be just acceptable as well.
Yes, you're correct. I just checked. They used to have 12 MB /s.
The encoder is also key, weather it's 1 pass, 2 pass or multiple passes. These guys would read the BBC white paper. According to the white paper. these settings are best for ultimate viewing for cable providers. Camera: 3x 1/2" Sensor 720p - 8 MB/s to 10 MB/s 1080p - 12 MB/s to 14 MB /s no reason why they can't adapt it for web and have other options as well 5 MB/s - web 1080p 1.5 MBs - mobile 480p

I just don't get all the angst about download file size. Don't ALL the major porn sites offer the same scene in 1080, 720, 480 and iPhone/Mobile? And, can't you just choose the size that satisfies your needs? Granted, there are a few sites that do not offer 1080 (they max-out with 720), but they tend to offer a cleaner looking 720. Some sites still also offer Windows Media Player and MPEG files, in addition to what I listed above. Moral of the Story: Nobody's forcing you to download larger files than you want. For example, several of my sites offer 4k, but I choose not to download it, as 1080 HD at a good bitrate satisfies me. I'd like to have scenes that are shot in 1080 HD (or higher), delivered for download at 1080 HD with a bitrate of 12,000. This makes me a happy camper
