I want to be able to download a movie and keep it. Not rent! I'm not talking about illegally. I don't mind paying for it.

I feel the same way about downloading movies. In fact, I'd rather download by the scene. The porn industry is taking a similar attitude towards this as the music industry. They see subscription services stealing their content and making a fortune off of their work, and instead of beating them at their own game, they charge you $14 for the right to view a film for 30 days. In most cases, for a couple of dollars more, you can buy the DVD. Why not sell a scene for $3 and full ownership of a divx or mpg file? It's still not DVD quality and serves as advertising for the high quality products. I can't tell you how many times I've downloaded scenes for free and tracked down the title and bought the DVD. They could better gauge the interest that people have in specific performers. They could even set up a system which would give said performers residuals for the downloads. Wishful thinking on my part.

Maybe in the future as the technology develops.
And the creative people figure out ways to make money.

Sure you download the movie now you share it with all your friends. =(

But eventually it will be worth that risk and still be profitable.

When I saw those ads for teh Apple music store. Buy songs for only 99cents! I logged onto the Website. Only to be put off, "You need a mac" to purchase songs.
Damn and I had my credit card ready too.

it's just as easy to share a dvd with all your friends as it would be a download. but i doubt the producers see it that way. someday you'll be able to choose scenes and download them. wish i had the energy to start that biz.

evil - i think apple's songs work on a pc now. i was sold on the ads too.

The guy who started buy.com has started buymusic.com which is basically the same as Apples store except it works with PC's, not Macs.

Apple almost has the business model right. There's more freedom than the RIAA wants but less than the consumer would like. You can copy the file to a certain amount of machines or discs. I think the subscription services are following suit. The problem in porn is that there are subscription services stealing content and offering the downloads and streams. These scenes do become available for free by file sharers. On the other hand, I don't think that things have ever been more profitable in the porn industry and yet they're missing the boat on this. If the actual studios that produce the product offer high quality content at a reasonable price, why wouldn't the consumer spend money there? Sell a scene for $3 and watch the impulse buyers flock. Don't put time limitations on the files. Stick your watermark on it if you like. The music industry is having problems because their product has never been worse in my lifetime, and they've already mined all their classic tracks for resale. The quality of porn (the sex and technical side) has never been better. It's a growth industry that has led the way into cyberspace. This is no time to be complacent or passive.
