Condoms aren't 100% effective against STDs even when the right size is worn, they're in date and they're used properly e.g. not used with an oil based lubricant. As good as it is, testing isn't perfect. Incubation periods can lead to false negative results. Testing is also not done on a gated community of people as I doubt every porn actress/actor's real life sexual partner/s is/are tested regularly. |

Considering the near flawless execution of their medication regime someone must take in order to be undetectable, this is rather unsettling to me. It's fine for a personal relationship with informed partners, but in the large and connected talent pool, you just need one person to mess it up one day and a problem could happen. Just like with August Ames, I am seeing this is some movement to bully the industry into accepting HIV performers from the gay side of the industry; without disclosing their status to allow the female performers to make a decision if thy want to take that risk (and yes, it is a risk even on prep and with my aforementioned medication regime). Its a slippery slope to accommadate what amounts to a very small number of performers who wish to move back and forth between the two sections of the industry. On a note about female performers taking prep; there are a shit load of potential side effects AND the cost would put a lot of female performers in the red on a monthly basis. Putting them on the hamster wheel of trying to find a way to make enough money to live, cover prep, pay agent fees, etc all becasue they are afraid of getting HIV. Seems like a win for the drug companies more than anyone else. Edited by - Marcus_W on 1/28/2019 4:58:44 AM |
| snufish Member 580 Posts 4/14 | The side effects of Truvada include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, depression, anxiety, skin discoloration, joint pain, anemia, trouble sleeping, strange dreams, back pain, itching or skin rash, changes in the color of skin on your palms or soles of your feet, or changes in the shape or location of body fat mental/mood changes (such as depression, anxiety), loss of appetite, stomach or abdominal pain, pink or bloody urine, or changes in the amount of urine, genital ulceration, kidney problems which include little or no urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath; or liver problems which include nausea, swelling around your midsection, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). but I'm the naive one? why should a healthy person take medicine that gives these side effects? Testing, condoms, no sexual contact with high risk groups including men who have sex with men, prostitutes, illicit drug users will have great success in preventing you from catching the bug. Feel free to state where I made such denials. Go right ahead. |

Why would a healthy person take something with all these side effects? Because one usually doesn't get side effects and one certainly doesn't get the whole list. This is the list of side effects for Tylenol by the way. |

| AngryPirate Senior Member 3210 Posts 8/17 | I'm not advocating the use of PrEP in itself or implying everybody should use it. I'm saying the option is a good idea. One reason why it can be taken is that the industry is not a closed circuit of performers therefore HIV or another STD can enter that circuit through porn actress or actor's "civilian" sexual partner. It's utterly absurd that you claim there's "no reason", apparently basing your argument on the assumption that people are rational, trustworthy, non-promiscuous and that they don't engage in sexual activity with members high-risk groups. In something called the real world, people are often irrational, sometimes untrustworthy, sometimes promiscuous and sometimes have sexual contact with members of high-risk groups, sometimes unknowingly. I'll put this out there in case you decide to go straw man again or if you've misunderstood my stance. I categorically do not support HIV+ people being allowed to perform regardless of low viral loads as it can still be transmitted nor do I support not being required to disclose HIV+ status even if the virus is seemingly undetectable. |
