I'm sure theis question pops up all the time so just refer me to another post if it's relevant. I need a FREE program that will allow me to burn video files to DVD. Something that supports mpg avi wmv. My free Nero only burns the disk, but won't encode the video files or create a menu.

Nero is, in reality, a set of many different programs.
Nero Vision Express is the one you need to do what you want. Nero has two separate files to download to get the entire suite.

I'm guessing your "free Nero" came bundled somehow?

I'm looking for a totally "no strings attached" freeware prog. Yes, the Nero I refer to is Nero Express, which was bundled with a cd burner. It will create menus and encode and burn VCDs and SVCDs but will only burn to a dvd with a pre-authored file. (vog, isa, etc.) Now all I need is a program to create those files.

Nero Express and Nero Vision Express are two different programs that are part of the Nero suite of programs.

Nero Vision Express absolutely does what you are looking to do. You may already have this and not realize it.

What version of Nero came bundled with your "CD burner" (you haven't said)? I'm assuming your "CD burner" also burns DVDs?

Actually the cd burner that Nero came with was a cd reader-writer and dvd reader. I recently got a dvd burner which came with no software. It's Nero Express 5.5.10.45 bundles. The mouseover for the DVD icon on the wizard is

"Create a high quality DVD-Video from DVD-Video file structures on your hard drive. Please note that to make a DVD-Video from video files, you must use a DVD authoring tool such as NeroVision."

So I guess I don't have it :(

That's why I need another free program. Anyone know of any?
(Trials expire so I need genuine freeware or a cracked version of another program.)

Rummage through this site. They have a lot of freeware as well as shareware tools for just about any job you can think of. Tutorials and forum also. This is another site with lots of info.
