I just want to ask if there is a marked in the us for PAL produced DVDs. We are a new european studio for gay movies and until now we produced our DVD in PAL for the European marked. It would be possible to release NTSC versions of our movies too, but at the moment i only would like to know if we "could" or "should" do that ;-) Also we are still looking for wholesaler worldwide for our products. nunsploitation Member 39 Posts 2/06	Posted - Jan 12 2007 : 10:40AM Americans tend to stay away from PAL-formatted DVDs. Americans tend to be ethnocentric, even technologically. Unlike Europe, it is not standard for American TVs and DVD players to recognize both PAL and NTSC formats. While many DVD players do recognize and convert PAL and NTSC, this is not an option consumers look for when they make a purchase. I asked a Best Buy sales rep about which DVD players could convert PAL. The first guy didn't know what I was talking about. He asked his boss who told him flat out they carry absolutely no DVD players that play European DVDs. I went online and found seven of them, all in stock at that store. In short, if you want to market your DVDs to Americans, you will likely get much better results with NTSC versions of your movies. I don't know anything about the market for gay porn, so I don't know if your subject matter would be successful in an American marketplace. Webmaster, http://www.nunsploitation.net [Link]

I think here in europe is more hard to find players who are not playing boths formats. qz3fwd Member 141 Posts 1/06	Posted - Jan 12 2007 : 11:46AM If you enable region coding and try to sell your discs in the states you will have a lot of pissed customers returning the product. So set the region to 0 or 1 for the US. The bibber problem is that most people do not know about PAL/NTSC and it seems most DVD players are not setup by default to play PAL discs on an NTSC tv. So you kinda have to press a NTSC version of the disc for the US market. [Link]

Bear in mind that most porn DVD's are coded region zero, which is the same as having no regional coding. [Link]
