| Reason Member 135 Posts 1/00 |  Posted - Nov 13 2001 : 1:30PMOK, I am back, unfortunately, with another excruciatingly boring post. Back in July I bought the Voyeur 18 DVD from Five Star, I think. I played it a couple of times and noticed some problems: my player would not play some portions of the disc. As I was slightly disappointed with the DVD anyway, for reasons I shall not get into here (probably too high expectations regarding one of the girls), I did not investigate the matter further at that time. Yesterday I was archiving some of my DVDs, and noticed something new about this disc. There is a ring of what looks like tiny scratches near the outer edge of the DVD, as you may be able to see from this image:
It is quite probable that this ring of damage is the cause of the problems I encountered with this disc.My first guess was that this was caused by some unknown problem with the manufacturing process. Has anyone else run into similar problems? I doubt it is possible to return the disc after so much time, and it doesn't really matter that much to me, but perhaps this helps to prevent the problem. | Clubber Member 186 Posts 4/01 | Posted - Nov 14 2001 : 3:24PM 1 very deep scratch is more likely to cause problems than several light ones, so if you can spot a single deep scratch, thats probably the cause. To check if its disc rot, jump straight to the part where the layer changes, if the layer change plays fine, then that should eliminate disc rot as the cause. [Link] |

I suppose if a case was dirty and had some particles in the hub area, if the disc rotated on top of them, it could get scratched. As for the problems with the disc, if yours did get scratched somehow, this would explain why it was jumping. I haven't had any previous complaints about Voyeur 18 yet. Tricia [Link] |
| Reason Member 135 Posts 1/00 | Posted - Nov 15 2001 : 11:14AM I did upgrade the firmware in my trusty Philips DVD player some time ago, which may have fixed the skipping problem. To be on the safe side, and to conserve space, I moved the disc into a slim CD case, where it should not get scratched further. Correction! I spoke too soon!!! The skipping problem is still there, I just misremembered the place where it is. At approximately 1h40m the picture freezes for a few seconds and then jumps into 1h50m. I can still get to the missing 10 minutes by rewinding the picture after the skip. Would the layer change be at 100 minutes, by any change? Edited by - reason on Nov 15 2001 [Link] |
