This is the DVD software you really want. That is what I use and I have had no problems with any of my DVDs. I remember the Days when The Truman show would crash all but my Creative PC-DVD softz. It has arguably the best Audio and Video Quality. AT this point in time. WinDVD has made great improvements. It has support of 3dfx's Motion Compensation which PowerDVD doesn't use. But when I compare the video quality on a 3dfx machine.. powerDVD still wins out. But You can optimize the audio settings to which ever you feel sounds best with PowerDVD. As of now, [Link] |

| spesedy Member Germany 238 Posts 8/00 | Posted - May 19 2001 : 3:49AM I've been using both players for quite a while and came to the conclusion that WinDVD has got the superior picture-quality. It's so good, that most people I know (including myself) even use the Intervideo-Filters for converting their MPEG2-Files to AVI or something else. In the DivX-Community the Intervideo-Filters, which are used by WinDVD, are famous for resulting in better quality than other filters. Some versions of PowerDVD also have a bug, which should be fixed in the newest version, which results in a wrong aspect ratio when playing certain films, thus you get that egg-head syndrome. PowerDVD also gives worse sound. There's more noise in the background than with WinDVD, although sometimes you have to listen very hard. There are a few other things I never liked about PowerDVD, so for me WinDVD is the first choice. [Link] |
