I have just received a notification from a seller that ebay.com is going to be removing the adult-only section from its site. Here are two screenshots of this notification.

The "reasons" seem kind of weak, too.

Here is the link to the updated don't-show-sex policy at ebay.com

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/restricted-adult-items-policy?id=4278&st=3&pos=1&query=Restricted%20adult%20items%20policy&intent=restricted%20adult&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1181#section2

Thoughts? No thots allowed.

I haven't bought Adult stuff off eBay for years. Adult DVD Marketplace is my go-to. So no impact to me.

Good to hear for you, 2manyDVDs.

I live in Canada, and ADM is great, but the U.S. ADM site does not ship internationally, while the international version of the site, with a much more limited selection, charges about $40 to ship just one DVD to Canada. I was able to get a U.S. buyer who charges $15 commission per DVD. I am a collector of less-common DVDs, so any outlet is a potentially good one. ebay sellers commonly charge about $15 per DVD when shipping to Canada.

Thanks again for your input.

Wow. I haven't bought anything off of eBay in years but for awhile years ago it was my go-to place to get hard to find and out of print movies. But after time I stopped using it because I got annoyed with the bidding process and hoping the sellers would do what they said they would. I never bought any hardcore stuff from eBay but I used to buy sexy exploitation DVDs I couldn't find anywhere else. It seems strange they would stop the selling of explicit material if it's legal and they have it in a section where you have to know how to access it it see it. As long as kids and people who don't want to see it can't stumble across it I don't know why they would get rid of it. The only thing I can think of is some sort of government crackdown on porn and eBay just thinks it would be easier to just get rid of all of it instead of having to deal with it.

There is no govt crackdown on porn.

You're right. I guess I meant the credit card crackdown on porn.

Possible contributing factors:

1. ebay does not want to be associated in any way with the selling of illegal porn. That is one of their own explanations. A random do-gooder who hears that ebay has been selling illegal porn might think in terms of the PornHub situation. I recently admonished an ebay seller that he is not allowed to sell bootleg copies of adult DVDs, and that it is considered illegal activity.

2. Many ebay transactions are done through PayPal + credit card. Visa has taken a strong stand against illegal porn, especially in the PornHub situation. Forward-thinking ebay executives don't want to risk controversy.

3. ebay got a new CEO in 2020. He migrated from Wal-Mart.

4. Sales revenue from the Adult-Only section is very low compared to other sections.

5. ebay does not want to have to "patrol" adult-only submissions and go through each adult DVD to make sure everything is acceptable. How could they do that without full access to the material?

6. There is a trend now in porn to make it more PC. If you look at Brazzers, for instance, and take the star Kelly Divine as an example, there is a scene of her from Pornstars Punishment called The Slutmother, which has been drastically shortened, and with the most "abusive" parts removed. Of course, Brazzers still includes the introductory part where the two men at the poker table are shot to death. So what better and easier way to make things more PC at ebay than by simply removing all porn from the site?

But ebay will continue to sell Playboy and Penthouse.

They should have simply forbidden the display of any images of erotic sales material.
Buyers could probably have found many of those images elsewhere.
