What is the trick to selling hardcore porn on eBay? I have a ton of VHS I'd like to unload that way.

I recently purchased a Seymore Butts' DVD (Poetic Just-Ass) from a seller on eBay (jpetermen). Jpeterman sold me the disc for $9.99 plus $5.00 or so S&H from Canada. The disc (finally) arrived about two weeks later and appeared to be OK. However, when I finally got around to watching the disc, I discovered it was a *censored* Canadian version where the sex scenes were edited for content. A lot of the nasty stuff that Seymore is known for was cut out. The sex scenes were more vanilla due to this. Also, it appeared that the transfer was not up to par with the domestic (USA) Seymore releases. The video and audio quality was no improvement over the VHS copy which Seymore sent as a screener. Even the commercials at the beginning of the disc appeared to mistrack like they were made from a poor quality tape. Jpetermen's description of the item did *not* say the movie was the censored Canadian version. I confronted "jpetermen" about this misrepresentation problem, and he said as far as he knew it *was* the USA version. He promised to "check with his supplier" about my concerns. Weeks later, I still never heard from "jpetermen". In the meantime I contacted Seymore, and he confirmed that there is a edited Canadian version like the one I described. Once again, I contacted "jpetermen" and requested a refund. However, he was unwilling to do so unless I sent the disc back at my expense. This would cost at least another $5.00 and take another couple of weeks. Jpetermen also was clear he would carefully check over the disc before issuing the refund. To this date, he still doesn't admit selling censored versions and has not even apologized. So, basically, the moral is, if you deal with "jpetermen" on eBay, it's quite possible you will receive a watered down Canadian version of the movie. I think this is a serious problem because buyers on eBay may not even realize they are getting censored versions unless they have a USA copy to compare it to. Of course, it would be helpful if "jpetermen" would reveal which of his discs are censored (in the listing), but I suppose that might hurt his business. And, if you do buy a censored disc from "jpetermen" don't expect him to do much to resolve the problem. Don't get taken like I did! This ebay seller sells DOZENS of discs on eBay every week. -- Snowman [Link] |

At this point, I seriously doubt I will see my $15 again, so I just chalk it up to the tuition of life. However, PeterXXX on RAME uncovered some interesting information: I suspect that the version I got was the 119 minute DVD version created from the VHS version that was approved. So, the Canadian purity police cut about 6 mintutes of the raunchier material out of the film.I believe the USA version has "PurePlay" on the back as the distributor. -- Snowman [Link] |
