Ed Powers? Really?

When he first came out with Bus Stop Tales and the various Dirty Debs series I was all over them. Not for Ed of course. I have always found him very irritating to listen to. He goes on and on and makes very little sense. However, Ed has never really altered his style. Actually, he changed things up a lot more in the first few years of these series than he has in the past 10 years. Now, every scene has the same setup and the same lame condom dump on the girl's left breast. He even uses condoms during BJs! If you are that concerned about STDs, stop doing scenes. In fact, that's a good idea anyway. Another thing is how he has refused to get in shape. He proved that he could so at one point in the 90s. He got very toned and thin. If you have seen any of his tapes in the past decade, you know how long he kept that up. Maybe he thinks he can be the next Ron Jeremy. Ok, now I see that his Dirty Debs line is well over 300 volumes! Hello, maybe it's time to mix things up. Different series, different male talent. Hint, hint. Better settings. That same boring bedroom got old years ago. I know this things not because I watch every tape like I used to. The only time I ever watch any of his tapes anymore is when there is a specific girl I want to see like Lisa Marie or Lauren Phoenix. If anyone has access to Ed, please talk some sense into him. His tapes have had some of the best girls in porn history, but his legacy has been tainted in my eyes by his insistence on living in the past and not changing with the times. [Link]

I can't even watch Ed Powers with stars I like. Everything about him ruins it for me, from his lame patter to his unfortunate wardrobe. And while I can enjoy girls taking a money shot every which way, for some reason Ed's schtick of squeezing out his condom sickens me. [Link]

The point you make in your post, that it is too much of the same thing that makes it monotonous/boring, may be what actually makes Ed's stuff timeless and worthwhile. Say what you want about Ed; he always gets the freshest chicks before any else. Porn today is always changing, so many in and outs, with no continuity at all! Then there is Ed, reliable, dependable and always there condom and all. A certain amount of respect has to given for this Stalwart in the industry! I agree that his body is too out of shape, but A certain segment of the population can look at Ed and say, "He's banging that hot young chick and he's way worse than me or maybe I am not that bad." In my opinion it went downhill pretty fast after Jake Steed became a Nasty Brother, in my opinion the Powers/Gillis team worked perfectly. I still wish he would release his Bus Stop Tales serie on DVD, for the old school Ed Powers fans! [Link]

He was just about the first of the gonzo "reality porn" guys and he set the stage for it all being bogus from day one. His Bus Stop Tails were all fake, just plain old setups, paid girls, the whole nine yards, (just like BangBus and 100.00% of all so-called Reality sites today) but he still claims in interviews that he talked em all into it,,,, yada yada. But hey, BangBus was exposed as a fraud recently by a big newspaper expose in Miami and yet guys ask Sanchez on their forum how he gets girls into the bus and he still uses the same old lame lines like "sweet talk em, all girls secretly want to be porn stars, most girls secretly want to fuck black guys, etc." The credulity of some porn consumers never ceases to amaze me, even after the turth of what they do is now out there. Now it becomes a lot more clear why the chicks have always laughed at Ed's 3rd grader sense of humor. Nevertheless I think the Bus Stop Tails are some of the best gonzo ever done. I stopped renting the Debs long before the condom thing came up. He reached a point where he almost seemed annoyed about having to go through the motions of interviewing the girls. I also hate when he and Jake seem to think we give a shit about their filming technique: "can you see the pen man?" "did you get the pen?" Finally, why in God's name he thinks we care to look up his hairy ass for 5-10 minutes at a time is beyond me. A glimpse or two I can handle, 5 minutes at a time is a serious impediment to rubbing one out! The best Debs have always been when the girl brought along her own boyfriend or husband. Randy's scenes are always hot because he genuinely worships women, has a REAL sense of humor, and is still buff despite probably getting on 60 by now. He can be very sensual one minute and banging the girl senselesss the next, and women really seem to groove on him, whereas Ed is more tolerated by women than anything else. He was an occasional Dirty Debs guy but unlike Ed he was also a bona-fide star in old-school full-length porn features. He started his own series similar to Dirty Debs, all of which are very hot. Somewhere around vol.225 or so, he seemed to go from video to film to back to video transfers, giving the overall picture a somewhat blurred quality. Basically many of the guys simply refuse to believe that their specific favorite girl was part of ths scam; no she had to be an exception. For these guys who have invested so much belief in this stuff, finding out it isn't real is like being told the religion you've grown up on is BS. These guys worship Dirty Sanchez like a god. Some of the reality stuff can still be good, like I mentioned I really like the Bus Stop Tails even now that I know they were setups. Like StreetBJs, which is also a setup, was at least for the early ones pretty hot because they did actually go into real bathrooms in malls and gas stations and get it on and some of the early ones are absolutely outrageous. But just like Ed went downhill so did StreetBJs. Now they are almost all done inside, and have perhaps the most hated guy in all porn, that pathetic wigger Tom who shows up acting like he's Snoop Dogg in more porn sites than you can shake a stick at, he's in most of the non-BangBros Miami sites, which is like a dozen or more sites including Big Naturals, Eighth Street Latinas, MILFHunter, StreetBJs, VIP Room and on and on and on. It seems like Miama is trying to become the Porn Valley of the East. [Link]

There was some really good stuff in Bus Stop Tales, Dirty Debs, Deep Inside Dirty Debs, Dirtier Dirty Debs, Virgin Tales, a one-shot called Newcummers, I Wanna Be a Pornstar, etc. A lot of stars made either their first or one of their first scenes on his tapes. Tricia Devereaux did a scene with Ed and Jamie and I think Jamie really upset her because he kept having her talk about her boyfriend during the scene. Shane was on one when she was 18, but she only watched Ed and Jamie Gillis jerk off. Janine did a scene with a girl who I don't think did any other scenes. It was pretty hot. Back then, the setups changed quite a bit. There was diversity in the talent (Jake Steed, Randy West, Jamie Gillis, Stagliano even joined in one of the scenes. Also, there was something appealing about the awkardness of the early years before Ed's head got bigger than his waistline. There were a lot of really cute girls in his tapes too. The overwhelming majority of them back then never went on to do any more scenes as far as I know. Now, it appears to be mostly pros or future pros, which detracts from what was the series initial main attraction. The last dozen or so tapes of his that I have watched were only for certain girls, and his sets are the same every time. Same goes for camera angles, order of positions, same stupid questions, etc. He has no creativity left in him. I just remembered one little clip in one of the Dirty Debs line, but I can't remember the volume. Anyway, the camera was on Ed as he related a story about how one of the girls he shot and her s.o. came to his house and beat him up and robbed him. He had some bandage on his head, and he sounded credible. He wouldn't say who the girl was though. As for the Bang Bus guys, that stuff is unwatchable. Not for the girls, who are ok for the most part. But there's a guy babbles CONSTANTLY throughout the scenes. He is beyond obnoxious. Also, usually there is about 30 minutes of yapping before any action starts. Back to Ed, does anybody here know him personally? I've always wondered how he is in real life. Does he socialize with any of the other directors or talent? Is he married? Does he keep making these tapes because he is a sex addict? From what I hear, he is basically just going through the motions. Ok, enough. [Link]
