Nice to see the studios are trying to fight back.
Whether or not it does any good is yet to be seen.
Do you think this will curb people from illegal downloading or not?

Here's what they do. They allow people to upload whatever they want to, kiddie porn is about the only thing they'll delete as soon as they become aware of it. Since their volume is high, they say there's no way in the world we can watch or monitor all this, we wait until somebody complains and if it's the owner of copy-writed material we'll remove it promptly. There's probably some truth in that, it's plausible, they don't make money from the postings, they make it from the advertisers so they don't care too much.
Porn doesn't suffer anywhere near as much as software companies who find pirated copies of their wares. Microsoft Office Suite is the #1 pirated software. I can understand why they hate seeing this, having to ask for deletes day after day after day as new postings occur.

If you got a notice in the mail that you are being sued by one of the studios for illegal downloading, do you pay or do you ignore it?
Would it stop you from doing it again?

I honestly doubt that it will stop too many people...the numbers are too vast. Also, a large number of these suits against people have been thrown out at this point--which isn't too surprising, given some of the points that have been brought up in other threads.
Solving the problem--which is a serious one--presents a very real conundrum...especially since a lot of the younger generation grew up downloading a huge percentage of their music for free and think nothing of it.
My generation (35 years old) was one of the last to remember paying for CD's, tapes, etc.
