Alteredinnocence recently released the French gay feature Equation to an Unknown (1980) by Francis Savel on blu and available on VoD on Vimeo and TLAGay. This release has been spearheaded by the French director Yann Gonzalez (You and the Night, Knife + Heart] who found a 16mm print and struck it for release, he talks about the film in this Film Comment interview. The print quality from the trailers looks amazing!
On the blu release Gonzalez contributes a short about the film and there is a short doc about the filmmaker with narration by Alain Delon! BTW Gonzalez's latest feature Knife + Heart is a very arthouse giallo slasher set in the world of 70s gay porn and has many scenes that are a tribute to the era. It is on Shudder.com right now as part of their Queer Horror collection. [Link] |

The film essay by Yann Gonzalez is good and let's you see how rough the VHS looked in comparison. The short film on the director is about his work as a painter and is in good shape and is an interesting snap shot. [Link] |
