Although I usually use Orgazmik for my Euro-DVD requirements, there are many, many things on the erodvd.nl site that I can't find elsewhere and that I don't think I can live without.
What's been people's recent experience of ordering from erodvd, especially in respect of delivery times?
I'm intending to email first to check that stuff's in stock, does anyone have any other advice?
They ship without boxes, in a nice plain white envelope.
Last time I ordered, delivery time was less than a wekk. You can check first with them if you like, but I never bother. I just order and see what turns up. These days, they are much better at stock-keeping, and will back order if necessary. Not sure whether they can guarantee to do that for ALL studios, though.
I've placed my order so my fingers are crossed and I'll let you know how it goes.
Ii's funny that there doesn't seem to be a European site that is up there with the US ones in terms of ease of use AND stock information AND a big variety of stock / studios.
I'm preparing for the violent backlash as people proceed to identify numerous such European sites . . .
Well, I don't know about "numerous" but there are some other Euro sites that are good and offer the features you mention. Orgazmik is excellent, but the prices aren't cheap. And XoDVDs is recommended too (by me at least!).
I was going to post a thread on this very point that you have identified. There is not one European retailer that I have come across that holds a complete inventory of US or Euro titles.
I buy US titles from US retailers with absolutely no trouble sourcing them. The same can't be said for buying Euro titles. It's hard enough finding out what titles are available on dvd in the first place. Then trying to find someone selling it at a reasonable price is like looking for the Holy Grail.
If there is a reason why retailers don't stock a full range of titles from a studio I would certainly like to know.
charlie: most Euro porn fans will agree with you! Essentially, I think that the US system of studios and online shops is just a lot more "joined up" simply because the USA is one country, that also happens to contain a lot of studios, which makes for a simpler business bringing all the titles together for sale with a common policy. The industry there seems a lot more mainstream than in Europe (certainly more than the UK). So all the studios can produce titles knowing exactly what the single set of laws are, and the online shops can sell titles knowing the laws too.
If you consider the different European studios, all producing titles in different countries. Then the online shops in Europe are all operating under different laws in their own country. It all makes for a much less "one stop shop" approach. So we end up with just a couple of reasonably coherent Euro shops such as Orgazmik, EroDVD and XoDVDs trying to stock a good range from the multitude of Euro studio output.
Still wanking after all these years. 8082 Posts 10/00

French webstore Cyberdvdx seem to be quite good stocking up all the range of French studios, with some German, British and Italian porn lines as well.
They used to be a tad expensive but have recently lowered their prices a bit. They also offer free shipping if you order five DVDs and have a range of special offers.
Haven't tried them yet but they have a good reputation. I'm planning to order some Blue One and Alkrys titles soon.
Timotei has hit the nail on the head there. Also consider that some movies are released by a different distributor in each country, e.g. Rocco Siffredi movie will be released by Shiva in Holland, Wild in France, IFG in Spain and so on. This creates the kind of confusion you can see in the Orgazmik catalogue where it's possible to have the same title in American (Evil Angel) or German (MMV) editions - this kind of confusion doesn't happen in the single US market.
Sourcing products in Europe to provide a comprehensive range would mean dealing with distributors from many countries, and there are few e-tailers with the resources to do this. Then there are the usual issues with inventory stock and costs, and so I think it's not surprising that most European vendors stick to a narrower range of titles that they presumably feel they will be able to shift.
Also, note that there are few American vendors who provide a range of European or other foreign discs (by which I mean imports).
Although the interesting thing is that there is a great source of titles from various studios, all available in a single point of contact in the UK: the unlicensed shops in Soho. The downside of course is that they are expensive. But if you go into some of those shops, they have a huge range of stuff from all over the place. So it can be done - just not online, so far, unfortunately.

I fully agree! In fact I recently started a thread about this topic in the General Porn Talk forum. The funny thing is, that I my views were constantly ridiculed and dismissed by the Americans on the forum.
When I posted an example of such a set of laws (namely the prosecutorial guidelines of Los Angeles), which correlated 100 % with US porn releases -thus proving my case- the thread was quickly locked.
And that's a big problem because Shiva doesn't transfer the extras on the DVD on their version when doing the transfer. You only get the movie and scene selection, nothing else. That's why I don't use Shiva but I buy my movies directly from the US so I know I will get the original version with all the extras, most of the time I have to pay more but it's worth it especially when buying Evil Angel DVD's because there are a lot of extras on it.
I've bought Private DVDs from EroDVD and from US shops, and I can't tell any difference. Maybe the soundtrack and subtitle options are different, although I've never bothered to look.
Certainly the picture quality looks the same to me, and all the extras are there.
Regarding the earlier point about different distributors: I also made the mistake of buying the Shiva releases of Evil Angel titles, and won't do so again. The mastering is not as good and the extras are missing.
Private is an Europian Compagny, so you would say, they shouldn't be less than the US version. When i did buy from action-dvd a dvd set(Penthouse series), the PAL versions looked better then the NTSC versions (but i'm in europe, maybe me tv is a little bit worse on NTSC then on PAl). So currently i go for the PAL versions from private instead of NTSC.
Cunobelin:~ As others have indicated, they ship in a plain envelope, without cases. For me delivery time tends to be around 10-14 days to Australia. Obviously your location will affect delivery times.
timotei and Gabriel are completely right in their assessment of the differences between buying from a European store versus a US store. They may (almost) all share a currency now, but Europe is made up of a lot of different countries.
Ramsey is also correct with RE: to the Evil Angel releases. This is also true of the mail order stores here in Australia who licence them and strip out all of the extras (ie AXIS video). Luckily we can often find the original US-editions of EA titles in the smut shops locally. Focusyn is also correct that this is done with local releases of Private DVDs. All of the extras are stripped out, "Private Life of" come with only the first DVD (the second one doesn;t exist locally), and to add total insult to injury they're actually coded as Region 4 titles rather then Region free. For this reason I refuse to buy anything by Private locally in Australia.
Focusyn:~ The Private DVDs available from Europe (and erodvd) are exactly the same in content as the US editions, except for the fact that they are PAL. I've been getting all of my Private DVDs from erodvd for about 2 years now, and have no problems.
timotei and Kaneda are again right, when they say that the discs are identical to NTSC-US ones. I have many of both, and the language options are identical.
Kaneda is also correct that the PAL dvds (from Europe) have a slightly better picture. This is because PAL is made of around 626 lines of resolution while NTSC is made of around 525 lines of resolution. I undoubtedly got the exact numbers wrong (they're 500-something and 600-something) but there are about an extra 100 lines (20%) in a PAL image, so it's not just Kaneda's TV that shows a better picture, it's the format.
Our TVs here in Australia are PAL, so there's also no issues playing Private DVDs from europe or for that matter any other dvds from Europe.
The only issue should be if they're explicitly stated as NTSC DVDs, in which case if your TV is less than 15 years old there's still no problem 99% of the time. But if you can play a US dvd (Region free porn or mainstream Region 1) than you can watch NTSC dvds from Europe as well without problem.
whew.. that was long-winded. Hope I retained some clarity in my gabbing.
Don't worry it was perfectly clear, I'm aware of the PAL / NTSC differences. I can play NTSC no problem of course, I was just wondering if the difference was huge or not with Private being from Europe and probably using PAL in the first place. I didn't think so, but I thought it was worth asking. Thanks guys
not a huge difference in quality, but I find the PAL discs do look overal slightly better. I haven't bought 2 of any specific titles so I can't give you a true side-by-side comparison, but overall I prefer the PAL pictures so I get my Privates from Europe.
Just ordered a couple of titles from the 50% off sale they are having. Only had 3 of the 4 discs I wanted, but not to worry. Problem is, one of the discs was broken in two by the no cases packaging.
Have emailed Aline this afternoon, but hasn't been answered yet. Anyone else had a broken disc from them?
Received my Order, well, received part of it - had been intercepted by customs who confiscated 2 of the 5 dvds because they showed fisting. This is a little bit annoying because I wasn't that bothered about the fisting anyway.
I think the reason it was intercepted was that it was shipped _with_the_boxes_ for the DVD-RAMA titles and I assume the DBM titles as well (don't know for sure cause those were nabbed) I don't know why they shipped like this, Ero-dvd say clearly that they ship without boxes. Bulging jiffy bags must look suspicious to Customs.
Adding insult to injury, one of the dvds that actually reached me was the wrong one!
I've contacted ero-dvd about this, I'll let you know how I get on. At the moment I'm not exactly impressed by them . . .
in the uk, my order was not confiscated by hm theives and customs...just got ripped off by yet another fly by night company i guess. ...more to the point its a hell of a lot cheaper to get them from holland in person, can get 4 times the amount for my cash than ero dvd's prices.
I hope you don't mean erodvd because they're a great company, they do have a stock problem but other than that I have had no problems with them for almost two years now.
I live in Holland and I assure you this is not the case. Erodvd has some very good prices and they're a lot cheapter than most stores here unless the store has a bargain action or something like that.
porn-meister, did you email them? Did you try to discover what happened to your package? Did it get lost in the post? Is this the only time you've ordered from them?
porn-meister - calm down or this thread will be locked.
You may well have valid problems with www.erodvd.nl (these guys, right? not www.erodvd.com?) but swearing and generally carrying on will get you nowhere. Seeing 4 of your total of 9 posts are in this thread saying a total of not much doesn't especially add weight to your comments.
As Ramsey has said, while some shoppers have had some problems with erodvd, their prices are pretty cheap (nowhere near the 4x for your cash in person as you're suggesting) and they've been around for several years, and so are not fly-by-night.
I'd also like to see the questions Gabriel has asked about this before seeing any of the general ranting I'm seeing from you. This applies to any mail-order company that gets discussed here.
Assuming erodvd reads this at some stage, you've also not provided them with any information they can use to identify your order. I've seen this type of rant many times for many retailers and it's really not useful to see someone from one of the online stores trying to reply to a post to help someone out with no way to identify who they are.
Useful information is good, ranting and swearing is useless.
------
Cunobelin - be sure and keep us updated with what happens with your order. Though certainly ordering anything that's illegal in your location (fisting DVDs) is not really on the retailer's head if customs nab them. I've had letter-type (no plastic cases) packages opened many many times, but because I'm not ordering anything suspect for my location, it gets through.
------
cykedout - I once had a cracked DVD from them (looked more like a manufacturing fault than something from transit) had it fixed up easily enough. Let us know what happens.
------
Frigo - did you email them? What was the response? Is there any way to tell if perhaps German customs opened it and seized it because of german mail-order laws regarding porn?
yes I did mail them. they only told me to ask at my local post office. I did that with no luck and after that did not get any more replys from erodvd. The one and only time german customs took one of my packages I got a letter about it, so I knew that they catched it. but not this time
ok no swearing no ranting etc etc.....the guys, erodvd.nl, ripped me off...short and sweet...nothing i can do about it....emailed them etc...so end of story....i now buy from another company , and get what i send for and their uk despatched...just thought id let you all know what this companys like thats all.
Not to belabour the subject too much, but perhaps porn-meister's package (and Frigo's?) was simply lost in the post?
It does happen, perhaps more often than you'd think. That would explain why customs, and EroDVD and your local post office don't have it.
I've shopped with EroDVD many times, and I would find it hard to believe they would rip anyone off - it's just not worth the reputation damage. With regular airmail, once they dispatched the package then it's out of their hands. Unless a courier service was used, then there's very little that EroDVD could actually do to find your package - anymore than you could if you sent a letter and it never arrived. Some shops may consider sending a replacement at their own expense, but I wouldn't expect any of them to do so. It's just a hazard of using the postal system.
I never said that it is erodvds fault. I only said that 2 times I was lucky and 1 time I did not received my order. Of course it could be lost in post. just wanted to share my experience with this online-shop.
