But what are the rules if some girl wants to come to the US to shoot porn? Is there a particular classification that they fall under? I would think they would be classified the same as other entertainers, i.e., fashion models, musicians, dancers, actresses, etc. Or is there a special category for the adult industry?
Undesirable, I'm afraid. They could come in a tourists. If you come to the USA to work then you have to have a green card. I admit I don't know the details but I expect that means someone has to say they have a job waiting for you, a job which they have been unable to fill using domestic labor.

Are business insiders from Prague and Budapest investing in those countries? Trying to set up agencies? Is there a porn biz infrastructure beeing built up?

ok, my knowledge is 3-4 years old and the rules may have changed but i spent a few summers at probably the biggest immigration law firm(which isn't that big) on the east coast.
you've basically gotta file two forms way in advance, the I-129 and one i forget for a few hundred dollars. the temporary work visas are basically h-1b which means you've got specialized knowledge in a lacking field, an l-1a which is corporate transfers, j-1 which is for generally elite students and a bunch of other ones for refugees, athletes and recognizable celebs, religious workers and there's an easement of regulations for nafta-people. it's basically a case of letting useful, rich or important people in. for h-1b and the L's you're talking about finance and tech executives with some management consultants in the mix--i'd put the average salary i saw get approved at around 250k.
the ins is slow and it's a bitch to deal with, to get a real permit to enter and work and come back within 3 years requires advance planning of at least a month and without a lawyer you're probably paying close to a grand in fees. no way the majority of girls are doing that, but realistically there's very little chance of getting caught like ashley long. porn is about as perfect for working illegally as the food-services industry in terms of simply being hard to monitor thanks to a essentially itinerant workforce and cash and personal check payments.

The probelm is that Eastern European citizens dont even get a tourist visa often. Thus they dont even get the chance to work illegally in the USA. EU-membership did not change anything in this field, because the US work on an individual county to county basis.
We'd better look for Euro agencies getting their girls from further east in Europe, than dream immigration phantasies.
It would appear, from the view here out west, that basic sense of letting useful, rich, or important people in, is not necessarily to curb, the lower wage, or lesser skilled immigrants from finding work here, but simply the type of workers, they have more interest in monitoring.

IMO the problem is two-fold: On one hand Czech and Hungarian girls got other career choices than doing hardcore porn - and be it softcore or just fashion modelling - on the other hand those Czech and Hungarian girls actually still doing hardcore charge too high prices to make it still profitable for US directors to shoot them in Prague and Budapest.
