You're right about Ana/Dia, though. I find that most of their vids have virtually no heat whatsoever. It's all very mechanical. Although I must say I'm becoming a big fan of Mike John. The UYA, DTH and PPOV series are the ones I'm really into.

What I got from the interview (and from speaking to Erik) is that he worked really hard to get into porn. If it's that hard for a good-looking guy with on camera experience to get into porn, then it sure explains why porn is so lacking on the good-looking guy front.

I have interviewed over 100 adult stars and personalities. Most of them have been female performers because, let's face it that is who readers care most about. However, Erik is not the first male performer I have interviewed. I've had the pleasure to interview Tom Byron and Lexington Steele as well as Vince and Tyce Bune. I will say that Erik is probably the most unassuming of the men I have interviewed. Let's be clear though, there is some 'arrogance' (I don't like the use of that word here because of its negative connotations, but if you will give me some rope) They do a job that most men can only dream of and that isn't lost of most of them. They also make their living with their bodies, particularly their cocks. Any man who does that for a living is going to be filled with a certain amount of confidence, which can be seen in some cases as arrogance. (And in some cases, it just IS arrogance, just not in Erik's case.)

Erik is funny, unassuming and if you read the interview, not afraid to make a joke at his own expense. I actually feel pretty horrible that anyone reading the interview could come away with such a terribly misguided view of him.

To your direct charges that he seems "ungrateful, racist, whiny, arrogant and insensitive", I will address them one at a time. (Remember, these are my own impressions and I'm not denying you your right to read things differently.)

1. Ungrateful- I don't really seem him complaining in the interview, perhaps you could give me an example. As for taking jobs, well come on. Rocco? Nacho? Christoph Clark? Mark Davis! Brandon Iron? I don't think anyone is losing work because Erik is Canadian any more than porn babes are hurting because of Silvia Saint, Nikita Denise etc. If anything, Erik is very grateful to the people who helped him out and expressed that in the interview.

2. Racist- Yikes, are you SERIOUS? Because he says that his "preference" has been for Caucasian women? In context, he was discussing how he would cast a movie, putting male talent with the kind of women they most enjoy. Is having a preference racist? No way. Don't you have a type? What if I told you that my preference is for Asian women? Am I a racist? Is Lex a racist because he prefers black women? On this charge, I will say that you're dead wrong my friend.

3. Whiny- Why because he pointed out that AVN f**ked him over? Then I guess Lex was "whiny" last year as well. And Extreme is "whiny" all the time. Most people in this business get upset when they feel they aren't recognized for their work. Hell, we all do. Maybe that sounds whiny to you, but to me it was just Erik having the balls to point out the same thing that Lex said two months earlier. He said, and I quote "The absence of Erik Everhard is the most glaring omission in the history of the AVN Awards." I think he's right, they screwed him and we all know why.

4. Arrogant- As I said, most porn males have an ego. Lex does and I consider him a friend. It's not a bad thing to be good at what you do and know it. Try interviewing professional athletes or musicians. After that, trust me, most porn guys are choirboys. Also, I won't name names, but Erik is not the most 'arrogant' guy I've interviewed. In fact, he may be the most humble. The 1200 thing...you're partially right. In many cases, a director is given a budget. What he spends on the movie gets spent and what is left over is his. I'm not sure if that is what Erik's deal calls for, but if it is, and he's willing to pay the girl what she wants in order to get a good scene, shouldn't we as fans be appreciative of that? The other option is that his company believes in his work so much they are willing to pay the rate. Trust me on this, if you aren't good, or known, companies will cut you off at the knees. (I've had to shoot under some pretty horrible price caps. Erik doesn't and he should be proud of that.)

5. Insensitive- You know, when you're good enough to demand top fee and a director pulls a switch, you can walk out. You can also stay, but if you do, they will screw you again and again. Listen, porn guys in general aren't that sensitive. Their job dictates that they can't be. I can tell you this, in nearly two hours of conversation, he didn't drop the word bitch or whore into the conversation even off the record. If anything, he was more gentlemanly than any other male talent I've interviewed not named Lex, Tom or Tyce. (Do the math from there)

As for your suggestions that he change his name, pull the interview, stop moaning and all that, those are your opinions. We all have porn guys we like and those we hate. Ron Jeremy? Max Hardcore? Alex Sanders? Evan Stone? This isn't the time for that discussion.
I can tell you a few things about the three guys you mentioned who should be getting more work than Erik. (Julian, Billy and Chris)
1 is the dumbest human being I have EVER met
1 is perhaps the biggest primadonna in the biz
1 is so unable to do raincoater sex scenes that he HAD to go into features
1 is a complete ingrate who can't take a joke. (How often did Erik take the gay references and laugh. Most guys in the biz wouldn't do that.)

So if these guys are more worthy than Everhard in your view, I respect that opinion. I just disagree and felt I had to defend the interview and the man. He is one of the most humble, funny and genuine guys in the biz.

While I'm at it, I am going to tell a little story just for this board. I have a reader who writes in all the time. She just graduated from a very prestigious southern university (with lots of buildings probably named after Al Gore) and she has a huge crush on Erik. When I was at XRCO, I was talking to Erik. He was very busy, but I decided I had to make this young woman's night. I asked if he minded if I called her and put him on the phone. Erik could have blown me off or put it off until later, but he was happy to do it. I called her up, handed the phone to Erik and had a nice conversation with her. He made her day and trust me, not a lot of people in porn would have taken the time to do that.

I really had no idea who Erik Everhard was a few months back. But he is turning up in a lot of scenes, and I have seen him numerous times in the past few months. He is definitely a very solid performer and he has great stamina. So Naturally I wanted to learn more about him, which I did when I read your interview.

Your quotes are good ones, but there is a context that you have to see. Erik and I were discussing the difference between a best ACTOR and a best PERFORMER. AVN has 2 best actor awards (For film and for video) AND a best Performer award. Many people find it interesting that the performer award often goes to an actor when in fact, a lot of these guys couldn't keep their dick hard on gonzo or wall to wall shoot no matter how much Viagra they take. You will notice later in the interview that Erik says he was happy to see Brian Surewood nominated because he is such a strong performer.
How many calls are there for a guy who can pop 5 times in fifteen minutes? Ask a gang bang director. Read my interview with Mike John to find out what it IS important at times. I've only shot a few scenes but let me tell you something, a guy who can do the job is VITAL to a good scene. There is a reason why the directors who shoot SEX videos hire the best PERFORMERS. If you want to know who the best performers are, look at who gets hired by Jules Jordan, John Leslie, Mike John, Tom Byron, John Stagliano etc. (If you want to know who the best actors are, look at who gets hired by PT, Ninn, Veronica Hart etc.)

As for who lives where, you may be mistaken. The last time I checked, Davis and Brandon were both in LA, any time I needed to talk to them. This whole thing is starting to sound like a rant against Canadians which really doesn't make sense. To the idea that there are guys waiting in the wings....hey, they can step up. The answer to the age old question 'why do the same guys keep working in every porno movie' is simple....Because they get the job done, period.
