The first 3 we consider director's cuts because as John was editing them, he made a long cut first, and that became the DVD, then he made another cut which was under 140 minutes for the VHS.
Director's Cuts will only be seen for future movies, as we don't make nearly enough money off of a DVD to go back into the raw footage and integrate it into the finished movie. It's difficult enough to go through all the tapes and figure out what wasn't used and include it as extra footage, but when it's possible, we try to do that.
BUDA was considered a special edition because it's 2 discs, has tons of extra footage, and we basically took about 3 times as long to produce that one, with more polished graphics, etc.Although another director would never work on an Evil Angel DVD, the people in our DVD department do lend a lot of their own creativity and personality to our discs.The reason it's only been for John's movies so far is because the manager of the DVD department happens to be his wife, and therefore is the only person in the world who can get away with nagging him to get stuff done on time.
All of our directors care about their DVDs, but it's a lot of work to do 2 complete cuts of a movie.
It is very possible that you may see a director's cut for Jules or Christoph later this year, and I have mentioned the idea to the other directors.Sorry, can't happen, although there will be extra footage on both, it just is too difficult to take that footage and reinsert into a finished movie.Nope.
