Hi. I'm Tricia Devereaux from Evil Angel. Although we've been doing DVD's for a little while now, we want to figure out ways to make them better. If anyone's seen our DVD's, please send me feedback personally. Be critical, but gentle. Keep in mind that the picture quality will be better on all our upcoming releases. Even if you haven't seen any of our DVD's. let us know what you like to see on DVD's what you see a lot but don't really care for... We're going up to 6-7 releases a month by June, so we want to start making improvements soon. Thanks to everyone for their input.
Hi Tricia. I wasn't sure if you saw the thread below, but it was a discussion about the things a lot of us would like to see in adult DVDs. [url=467403]See more of in Adult DVD</A And this one talking about porn in general [url=467404]See more of in porn</A Me personally... for DVD extras... I would like to see more behind the scenes footage. It gives the fans a chance to see the performers in their natural environment. The ones in Kelly the Coed, Flashpoint and Conquest were great. Also, better chapter selections. A lot of times, there are only 5 chapters, but each chapter is over 20 minutes. It should be 2 or 3 selections per sex scene. Well, just my opinion... hope this helps.

Forget about extras! Forget about that..the most important thing is the transfer, the image, then the sound. Some companies focus too much on the extras and forgets about the essence, the ordeal, the real stuff which we purchased that product in the first place. If you look at some VCA titles, you'll notice that they don't have too much extras, but the image is what makes them have lots of fans. If dvds have lots of extras, it should be a damn video game! Personally, if you want us to be seduced and and grabbed by your product, it should be the image that causes that. You can have a lame sex scene, and if the image is pure DVD quality, it turns out, I enjoyed it!
Sonic: I'm going to have to completely disagree with you there. Extras are very important to me, primarily because DVDs are so expensive. I have a very hard time justifying spending potentially twice as much for a no-frills DVD as the corresponding VHS tape. I don't have any argument with wanting to see a top notch transfer. And I would agree to a point that an outstanding transfer will carry a DVD (see my recent review of Pin-Ups 2 as an example). However, don't think it is an issue of choosing either extras or a good transfer. There are several studios who have demonstrated that it is quite possible to have both. I think the perception that A/V quality suffers whenever extras are concerned came about from the releases of studios who do not understand DVD mastering or who simply do not care about their customers. I definitely don't believe that "more quantity is better" but I definitely think that "more quality quantity is better." Finally, I just want to remphasize what I started with: value for the money is important now. It's one thing if the street price of a DVD is $9-10, and an entirely different thing if it is $20-25. In the former I don't really expect extras, but the latter I most definitely do. In either case, I expect a professional video and audio transfer that does not distract me from the production. I've been saying for a while now that the adult DVD studios are in a similar position that the mainstream Hollywood studios were in during the transition from DVD-10 to DVD-9 in late 1997/early 1998. At that time, consumer expectations weren't too high. But they quickly escalated to today's market, where the "special edition" DVD is the norm. Just my two cents, "Extras" Saki

Tricia, Dont let Tianna's divorce from Patrick Collins stop you from releasing Tianna on DVD! She was too classy for this business, but I still want her on DVD, please! I only have one Elegant Angel disc, and it was an early one, but here's my feedback based on it, as well as my ideas about good DVD in general: Discs that you have to flip over - even if just to watch the extras - are not a good idea. How are we supposed to flip over a disc with our pants around our ankles? Someone could fall, and sue you. (The disc I have has the film on one side, and extras on the other side). I much prefer everything on one side, and then have a nice picture label on the top side (those silk screened color ones from VCA look great). Regarding chapter stops: The opening credits of a film should be a chapter all its own, so it can easily be skipped over. Also regarding chapters: On the cult classic film Cafe Flesh, which is from VCA not Evil Angel, they had an idiot create the chapter marks. They placed the chapter starts at the moment penetration began, rather than when the forplay began. In the case of Cafe Flesh, half the excitement is in the build-up to the actual sex, so the moral is, when placing chapter marks, place them sensibly. Third thing I want to mention is that it seems a lot of the earlier Angel titles were shot on cameras that rendered skin tones kind of yellow-ish. You have an opportunity to adjust the color balance a little bit on your older titles when making a DVD. Maybe some of those yellow skinned people could be made more pink. Fourth thing I want to mention is that the increased resolution of DVD has made the pimples on people's butts really obvious. For future films, don't forget the body makeup. (And dont hire anyone with fake breasts). Fifth and last comment is that I think picure galleries are stupid. I am for actress bios, especially ones that are linked to the chapters in which they appear (as on Michael Ninn's Sex DVD from VCA). Actually, just take Ninn's Sex DVD and copy everything about it, it is the state of the art done the best it can be done.

I guess this is an issue that goes so many different ways. I am perfectly happy with a great fantastic image and no extras..a decent chapter search is nice though. I can't sit down and watch "extras" twice though. "Transfer Lover" sonic
I'll throw another two cents into the pot.... The first thing that I watch when I get a new DVD (porn or mainstream) is the extras. (I don't waste my time on picture galleries and I really get annoyed with picture galleries that have no navigation options. It really sucks if you stumble into a menu option and there is no way out, like Cool Devices 1-4.) I think the extras are very important but should not be thown together just for the sake of having them. Poorly implemented menus, crappy editing on behind the scences footage and bonus scenes can ruin an otherwise decent title for me. I like the behind the scenes and "making of" segments because I like to see the "people" aspect of this business. I've found that the adult film community is one of the friendliest groups of people that I've ever had the pleasure of working with. A short, candid segment with each of the main performers and maybe the director is my request. Picture and audio quality rank high on my list of requests but they aren't a requirement. A great picture with performers who are not really into each other doesn't do much for me. It all boils down to the sex. Try to take advantage of every technical benefit the DVD has to offer in an effort to present the sexual energy captured by the camera. If the sex scenes are lousy to begin with don't spend a lot of time on the DVD.

Hey Tricia! Thanks for stopping by our happy home I know I'm in the minority but I rarely notice video quality unless it's very bad -e.g. Fantasy Chamber from Ultimate. If there is a lot of candid footage good audio is a must. I LOVE BEHIND THE SCENES, interviews, bloopers, any candid footage. PHOTO GALLERIES ARE A WASTE - it's a DVD I can make my own. Menus - I care more about ease of use than looks/animation/etc. NO MORE FAKE BOOBS please Less make-up and fake eyelashes too. some very beautiful women get obscured by excessive make-up. BTW - the best parts about The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women are the focus on the female orgasm and the candid nature of the whole disc.

Drew I strongly agree with you there too. That's really the most important thing. You see..yesterday I was watching a VCA classic adult dvd made in 1986 called NIGHTSHIFT NURSES..something struck me as odd. I couldn't believe how an old retro porn title like this can look so good on my screen. Damn..then to know that newer titles from studios that were made in 1999 or 1998 look so damn shitty! Odyssey Group has a title called Oh My Gush..and the menus are awesome looking..with cool sound effects like farting etc..and nice extras like trailers. When you hit play..boy what a surprise! What a piece of shit of a picture man! This title costs $27 at online adult stores!!!!!! This pisses me off..no..not piss..but piss in anger!

StephHALLELUJAH!!!! No matter how great the title looks..it's gotta have good gear..yeah, good natural boobs. Damn I'm human..not artifical!
Please let me throw in my not-so-humble opinion for no more fake breasts. Oh, god please no more fake breasts. I'm begging you here! I know this is not really a mastering item (hell, neither was the fake breasts thing), but I would prefer more long shots i my porn. There is a place in the film for the vagicam, but I kind of resent reducing the actors to Tab A going into Slot B over and over again. Okay, on to mastering. Previews are good. Commentary is good. Behind the scenes is great! Slide show is boring. If you have bios, please 1) Make sure the women you are spotlighting are actually in the film, and 2) Please provide a link to a scene that she is in. Also, any chance on getting some info on the guys, too? Didn't think so... If no behind-the-scenes, how about an interview? A few minutes would be fine. Thanks for coming by and asking our opinion! ------------------ "If sex is such a natural phenomenon, how come there are so many books on how to do it?"

tricia_devereaux I am a happy Evil Angel fan. I was quite impressed by the great footage on the two Evil Angel titles I own. Buttman In Budapest and Buttman's Big Butt Euro Babes. I sat down one cold and lonely day and I stumbled on to something. What if Stagliano released these Evil Angel titles you know, with some goodies. Like a chapter search, at least a menu screen and some stuff here and there..Evil Angel's sales will go much much higher...I do understand that they are gonna be re-released tricia_devereaux..but did you know that Evil Angel is gonna get more recognition from fans and customers because those discs actually are finally gonna take advantage of some of the dvd medium and specifications? I am happy tricia_devereaux that you guys have decided to approach this manner as I'm sure you guys will be a hot contender to be reckoned with in the adult dvd market.
Tricia, The only complaints I've had about the EA titles I've bought involved the picture quality. That having been acknowledged and rectified by EA, a gesture for which all of you there are to be commended, by the way, I can say that I'd like to see a continuing commitment to the sort of substantial extras seen on the Dog Walker and Face Dance discs (ie. extras which enhance the presentation of the feature itself; the Stagliano mini commentaries are terrific examples of this, as are behind the scenes features, outtakes, etc). I'm unaware of EA editing down the running time of their videos for DVD release, but I, and I think I can safely say many others here, tend to frown on that sort of thing. Trailers and other, at heart, promotional materials can be nice, although I hesitate to think of them as features and I don't really care to see them listed as such. Multi-angles are nearly a minus in my book. I do agree with Sonic at least up to the point of saying that transfer quality should always be job 1. [This message has been edited by ultradamno (edited April 11, 2000).]
OK, here's what I have to say: -More behind the scenes. -More commentary. -More performers videography. -More chapter stops. -Bloopers reel And, of course...more CHLOE! Pat-Chloe-Fan
What an opportunity, thank you, Tricia. Extras are not my focus on DVDs, though they are nice. A good image is more important to me. In terms of porn DVD, though, I'm very interested in video libraries being transfered to DVD. I'd like to see past EA productions sold on disc. Specifically the Big-Ass She-Male Adventure series. The first one is great on DVD and I eagerly await the rest of them. So, image above all and then extras is my take on it.
I would say the main thing is a pristine transfer, b/c I've been sadly disappointed with the artifacts, muddy look and pixelation of the Buttman discs I have. It has actually made me less excited to purchase deeper into the catalog until I see some improvement. esp. since Evil Angel DVDs are rather costly in comparison to others. I'd also like to see a greater catalog selection of titles from John Leslie and Joey Silvera Torris
Why does everyone here seem to hate fake breasts? Jenna, Celeste, Lexus... they got the hottest bodies IMO! I guess they have to be done right though. Hate to see scars and ones that ripple when they hang down. YEEEECCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHH. As for DVD extras, I gotta agree with more behind the scenes footage being at the top of my want list. Doesn't even have to be a slick, polished featurette or anything, just hand someone a camcorder to get candid footage from around the set and let the tape roll!

I finally got back from an industry conference and read your responses. Thanks all! In response to some of the more common: Behind the scenes is great, but nearly impossible on older releases. Same with interviews of the stars. Biographies... again more possible with newer releases because most of us never thought of asking the stars many detailed questions. Who knew there'd be a use other than our own curiosity? Some of those biographies you're seeing on the DVDs(not the ones from Wicked or Vivid) are partly or completely made up. Fake boobs... I'm not a fan of them (mine are still mine), but if they're done well and not too big, I can deal with looking at them. Unfortunately, the pickings in the business aren't always the best (this isn't Playboy fare), and sometimes we have to hire what we can get. It gets tiresome directing the same few girls over and over. Also, our re-releases are doing well and should be out on schedule in May. 2-sided discs may be a necessary "evil" in the future of DVD. The more info the consumer wants on his DVD, the more space we need to put it on, and that sometimes means both sides of the disc. I do like the cool pictures on the DVDs, but it's a trade off for having extras and still keeping good picture quality and audio. (Lots of space).
Tricia, Thanks for giving us (the customers) a chance to voice our wants. I'm looking forward to the next several months to see what you guys produce. Keep us in the loop on upcoming titles!
Wow, Tricia Devereaux! Huge fan here! Well, I like to keep DVDs simple. I don't like the picture gallerys, mainly because I haven't seen one done well yet. I like the Bios, but know that they are usually false. I'd like to see something I don't get to see anywhere else. Maybe a bit of a personal interview with the stars? I also like the bloopers. Mainly I'd like changes in the industry more than anything. I'm tired of the over done boob jobs and the over done makeup. You are a truly beutiful woman, and I wish more women preformers were like you, but I'd be happy if they cut back on the hair and make up? I also think the men are getting terribly out of shape. I don't need to see a big gut! Probably not much you can do about that? How about just releasing many of your films on DVD? Looking forward to your chat!
Please Tricia!, No double sided discs! I just hate, and I mean "Hate" to turn discs over (thank god those LD days are over). What does a guy like me who has a 200 DVD charger do in a case of a double sided disc? Maybe you should consider 2 disc sets, one for the feature and one for the extras or simply do dual layer disc! And btw, thanks a lot for asking us our input, it is very kind! Pat-Chloe-Fan

I hate flipping double sided discs. The only thing I flip..is a hamburger..yummy, umm..anyways..I say Dual Layer all the way. I love dual layer discs. Tricia..Evil Angel did a fine job with the artwork on the discs..Buttman in budapest..etc..tell them that sonic said to keep up the great work! P.S: I can't wait for the re-releases! I heard better image on them..that means...the hungarian ass on them..looks better? OH MAN! YUMMY! C'mon Evil Angel hurry! Please hurry on Buttman Big Tit Adventure 5 also! Stagliano..I'm a great fan of yours...update your site too while you're at it. Damn..I am annoying.
What I would like to see is some value! A lot of the porn companies are recycling their back catalog onto DVD. That's great! But with DVD's capacity, why not put two titles on a disc. Now that would sell a LOT of product.
I doubt Evil Angel would be able to find a factory that still makes flipper discs. It really screams out "CHEAP" and pretty much has been phased out by professional studios. The factories probably follow the big studio's lead, so, I doubt they'll have a choice.

Then it will be double the cost, because sexual footage is not free.
One of the things I'd like to see on EVERY DVD is for every actress to be identified in the extras. I'd like two pictures of every actress who has any sex role in a video WITH A NAME ATTACHED one way or another. (Along the top of the photo makes the most sense to me. One name on the left, and one on the right side of the top if it's a pic of two actresses.)
Really I'd love for every picture in photo galleries to have names along the top in this way. (One picture doesn't always reliably identify an actress, if there are two in a video who look somewhat alike, for those that aren't already very familiar with them.)
Alternatively this could be done in the bio section. Except that bios don't usually cover all the actresses with sex roles, only the two or four most famous ones. Bios on everyone would be nice, but for me wouldn't add that much over just naming them. And it's probably much more work and harder to get on all, especially some of the Euro girls.
This would really make a BIG difference to me. And I think many who like to keep track of the girls, or anyway particular ones they see for the first time and really like, or ones they first really get into after having seen them before, they think.
Well, I have already declared my loyality to EVIL ANGEL, you know that, right Tricia? Just keep on turning out old releases with the new. Bios are nice, and I would like to see star identification somewhere on the disc. Since many older ones I have never seen, because I was not old enough at the time. But now that I am over 21, I don't know who some of the "older" actresses/actors are. And keeping with identification, you should label who the stars in each scene are. Bloopers are funny to watch too, Trailers of UPCOMING DVDs, not VHS releases, would be nice. Picture galleries are alright. Picture and audio quality is a very important for DVD, I know you can't help this on older releases, but you do try. - Keep up the great customer service, and I will remain loyal to Evil Angel!
dex - check out evil angel's chapter menu. they're one of the few studios that list the chapters by the girl in it. it's part of what i really love about evil angel.

Hi Tricia,
I live in the UK and with the high US $, US full price DVDs are too expensive for me (plus many time the price is over the Customs treshold where they start taxing you big time ).
Would Evil Angel consider a cut price line with say older titles? Or cut price compilation titles?
Thank you for the opportunity to give some feedback!
Best studio overall out there in my opinion, esp. w/ DVD's.
Still would like the name of EVERY female sex performer next to several pics of her somewhere in the extras, however.
It seems like name labeling the photo gallery would be such an easy thing to do. Not that anyone else regularly does it that I've seen. But that would be just one more thing that Evil Angel does much better than the competition!
I forgot to mention it before, but on the last few Adam & Eve DVDs I watched, they put each star's name next to them on the pictures in the photo gallery. I have mixed feeling on it, since it's great to know who each person is, but it can also detract from the photos a little.
1) the mainstream studios are pretty much eliminating "flippers"--they say there's a much higher rate of defectives than with one-sided. I'd favor 2-disc sets if necessary (at a reasonable price; note Cast Away and French Connection among others).
2) photo galleries bore me; the only reason to have them is to identify the actresses.
3) keep releasing older stuff.
4) behind the scenes and bloopers are great.
5) commentaries could be great--I'd pay dearly to hear Harry Reems discuss the making of Deep Throat and all the legal problems it brought him later. Simply someone discussing how the other performers drank, smoked, smelled, etc. would get real old real fast.
Being a seller of DVD's and a viewer, I think the extras are VERY important. I love the behind the scenes where you get to see the "human" side of the industry. The laughs, the complaints, the way the filming is done.
Image quality - Most important. Old movies converted to DVD just plain suck. Case in point - Leisure Time. Not worth the pastic they are made on.
Box Cover - This alone will sell the title. Ifyou have a great movie and a bad box cover.......no sale. You'll get the few sales from people who KNOW what the film is about but you wont get the random looker. There's an old movie called "XXX". Couldnt sell that title to save my life simply because the box cover is black and blurry. But EVIL has some of the best covers I have ever seen.
PICS - If you're going to have pictures on the DVD dont waste our time with SCREEN captures or camera stills. We want CLEAR, CRISP, sexy JPG's or something similar that can be display full screen. Most DVD pics are about 1/4 screen size and horrible. AS Steph said, photos galleries are a waste. I'd bet that my reasoning is why. Give us GOOD galleries that we cant find elsewhere
PREVIEWS - VERY VERY important. Show the customer clips from other titles and you're guaranteed to get a sale. You have to let people know whats out there.
Trust me, people will PAY to have extra's.
One of your titles is soon to be mentioned on a very big radio show nationwide (from New York). Im not sure if they will mention the studio or not but at least its your film. :) I've seen this particular title and fucking loved it. GREAT filming, sexy, nasty, and clear. I will not mention the radio station or the title because we semi-partner with this radio station and other retailers will try to steal our thunder because they arent orignal. lol

I'm glad to see that this topic got bumped up. Especially since so many of the things that people asked for, we have started doing.
We have added a "Filmographies" section to most of our DVDs. Any girl who has done a couple of other Evil Angel movies is listed with a picture and the other Evil Angel movies she's been in. DEx - It actually would be A LOT of work to put the girl's names on EVERY photo in the gallery (we usually include 30-60 still photos). Even to just identify each girl in the photo gallery section would be time consuming. As mentioned, we do identify each scene in the chapter menu by the names of each girl in it. Finally, any DVD produced by me for the past couple months and in the future has an extra of "list". It lists all the girls AND guys in each scene.
As you can all see from the various posts, there is a wide variety of what people want from DVDs. Some would be thrilled with NO extras if it meant a better picture. Some are willing to sacrifice a TINY bit on picture quality to see stuff like behind-the-scenes. Lately, I think we've been doing pretty good at finding a middle ground between the two.
We will NOT be releasing double-sided discs. If needed we will release more 2-disc sets like BUDA is.
For previews, John Leslie is currently the only Evil Angel director who makes previews. Trailers take time to edit, and as we all know, time is money! Yes, it would probably help sales, but that's up to the directors to decide if they want to spend the time doing it, not me. I actually edited the Butt Freak 3 trailer which appears on a couple of Buttman titles. It took me a couple of hours to put it together.... I think I'll also be making a trailer of Buttman's Bend Over Brazilian Babes 3 which might appear on Buttman's Anal Show 3.
Finally, sorry, but Buttslammers is not owned by Evil Angel, we just used to distribute it for Bruce Seven. It's now owned by Pleasure.
The 'Boron' made a very good point about photo galleries.
Personally I love the photo gallery section but they need to be quality pics taken on set and behind the scenes (like those used in your BUTTMAN magazines).
Behind the scenes and casting sessions would be fantastic.
Trailers are a must (even rough cut trailers would be nice)
Full screen images of covers through various stages of design, would be intriguing.
2. Show authenic footage of conversations between director, actresses, and actors before the sex begins.
3. Show authenic footage of conversations between director, actresses, and actors DURING and AFTER the CLEANUP of a cumshot.
Note: the more boring the footage the better because we know it is real footage and not make up and therefore more of what fans want to see. The real behind the scenes.
An extra I always enjoy is commentaries. They add a lot of value to a DVD, at least for me. Interviews with the director and performers are also always a nice extra.
I have a few suggestions for Evil Angel releases in general. I'd love to see more releases focusing on the female orgasm, like Real Female Orgasms, and fem solo scenes, both in the form of compilations and new material. Fake breasts also have to go, especially the more freakish looking jobs....yuck! Off the top of my head, Tiffany Mynx is the only female performer I know who actually looks better with implants. I'd mention the wearing of shoes by girls during sex scenes (does any girl anywhere actually do that in real life?) but Patrick Collins is actually very good about having his girls do their thing sans shoes. More lingerie, stockings in particular, would be terrific.
Btw, thanks for taking the time to listen to what the folks on here want, Tricia. With people like you in it's corner, it's no wonder Evil Angel is doing so well in general and especially in the Adult DVD format.
I think they make the most sense when there is something especially unusual about the video.
John's commentary to "Buttman's Ultimate Workout" was really great. (There's some nice sexy / intimate playing with Tricia on the commentary track as well, from time to time.)
There's a reason why it made so much sense on that one. It was one of the first Buttman videos (was it the 2nd Tricia?), and the first really smash success gonzo ever done. It had a huge influence on the porn biz.
It's also real fun that the location for the first scene was in a late night gym owned by ... Seymore Butts (as he soon became). Watching John work at his gym is what got Seymore to change jobs, and find his "calling" -- with some initial help from Stagliano (which last he doesn't play up or I think even mention on the commentary).
