has anyone had any good experience with this company? I found that debi diamond title I'm looking for on DVD there, but not going to order from them until I have an all-clear signal
I've ordered quite a bit from them, although not lately, and find the experience to be hit or miss. Sometimes the service is great and they get your order out in a timely fashion and everything is complete. I've also had a situation where a title was shown in stock, I placed the order, and the title never shipped. I was'nt charged for the dvd, but I thought it to be poor customer service. What was really frustrating was that I had to do all of the follow up to find out that the title was out of stock, and continued to be out of stock, until I eventually cancelled my order.
However, I do pay the annual fee to use their web site as a research tool. If I'm interested in a title, I usually watch the preview there, and buy somewhere else.
If it's just one title you're looking for, I would suggest e-mailing them asking to confirm that the title is in stock before ordering.
Keep in mind that Excalibur often lists items as available on DVD that have never been released by the studio on DVD. Excalibur has contracts in place with many adult production companies that allows them to do their own in-house duplication. (This is a carry-over from the VHS days.) Excalibur can and will burn you a copy of the VHS onto a DVD-R. If you see a DVD that's only available at Excalibur you might want to cehck with them to see if you're getting a DVD-R prior to placing an order. Otherwise you may be surprised when you receive the items.
wow! extremely helpful. thank you gentlemen. unforunately it seems that Excailbur is the only company that has "Debi Diamond Special" on DVD, but is no longer in stock VHS. not really sure about ordering from there, but someone I know really wants it and I want to surprise her. hopefully not surprise myself at the same time.
Good luck getting them to admit it. Back in the days I couldn't play DVD-R's I ordered from them not knowing about the fact they burned their own. I received the DVD-R and they kept denying it was a DVD-R. They would just call it an 'Excalibur Exclusive' title.
That's typically the only time that I order from Excalibur. When there's a title that I want, if my choice is between having a DVD-r from Excalibur and not having any DVD at all, I'll take the DVD-r.
Typically, their DVD-R's cost between $9.99 & $14.99 and if for every $50 you spend with them, you can get one of these for free.
I had 1 DVD-R from them that wouldn't play. They replaced it with no problems. The replacement copy played fine.
I know that there used to be. But I don't remeber receiving anything from them recently. There's probably a check-off box on their website where you can indicate whether you want to hear from them or not.
The unwanted mail used to be a huge problem for me. Excalibur would send these huge packets with all types of porn, including gay, advertised. Try explaining a solicitation for "Man Meat 5" to your wife.
Like Bill said, if they're still soliciting through mail I would hope there's an opportunity to opt out.
now I have to figure out whether or not I'm going to take a bullet for this woman or not.

never had a problem, ordered Gangbang Auditions 6 and it didn't work and they replaced it for free. The only slight problem I had was it took them a month to get an obscure Micki Lynn movie from the mid nineties

I have used them for almost a year because no one else would ship to Oklahoma. Never had a problem, knock on wood. Always here quickly and always playable.
I first ordered from two or three times two years ago or so. First orders were great, so I continued. But soon the merchandise started getting shoddy and was obviously copied from original tapes/discs, very poorly. Something must have been going on there, as at that time many posters in the RAME group started complaining about them. Then they seemed to have installed a country-specific filter that would disallow connections based on IPs (I experimented with a number of proxies to verify this), they stopped accepting credit cards for a month or so, and I got too fed up with them and never used them since. I still read messages about them on RAME, etc., and while some claim they're good/improved, many others state that they're shoddy, not worth the effort, or even dishonest. Personally, as I said, I'd never used them since "that time". I always found everything I wanted on Jadedvideo, anyway, and that store I can recommend with no hesitation (if only their backorders didn't take so long :D)
If you're just looking for 1 movie then you should probably be OK. Avoid there monthly rental service like the plague though. Titles they show being in stock almost never are and you can go weeks without getting something shipped even though they count it as being shipped so they won't ship the next thing in you queue out.
I ordered from them a few times over the last few years. When I first ordered from them, I received mailings. I subseqently let my membership lapse (by not ordering anything for at least 6 months). A few months ago, I ordered from them again. I haven't received any mailings from them since then.
That's why I assume that either they stopped sending junk mail (it's pretty expensive to send) or they gave me the option of "opting out" of recieving that junk mail & I took it (I just don't remember if I did that or not).
thanks Flash. this is exactly what I'm worried about. only going to get one DVD from them, and don't want to have a bad experience. so far my experiences with Action DVD has been great and I don't expect that to change. but I've heard one too many things about Excalibur.
I've only ever ordered one thing from them - years ago. It was Insatiable VHS before I owned a DVD player. It had a flaw towards the end of the movie. I ended up throwing it out (I couldn't be bothered to ship it back, etc.) Since then, I've ordered the same title on DVD from a local company (I'm in Toronto, Canada) and that worked out much better.
Another thing about Excalibur - I checked them again yesterday, and actually tried to place an order once again. They let me in, accepted my login... but then I was informed "We no longer ship VHS titles to countries outside USA". Morons. I was only interested in returning to them because of four old VHS titles that nobody else lists and that aren't available on DVD. Oh well, screw them - now I know for sure there's absolutely no reason to buy at Excalibur ever again. It's just Jaded for me from now on, as it's been for over a year anyway. :)
I used to get from them when i first found out about the site but after awhile they started charging just to view damn trailers which i used to get for free. So its a hit and miss site so i usually get stuff from either adultdvdempire or from my dealer friend i know out in cali.
the more responses I get the more I think this is a bad idea. but I'm sure the reward of surprising her with this film will outweigh the occasional unwanted mail from them.
About their charging - they're also the only site in the world that charges you to see scans of front and back covers of most films. Jaded, Gamelink, etc., can for some reason afford to show scans for free. (Not that there isn't a way around it, in fact it's very easy to bypass it on Excalibur)
Excalibur started this practice when the COPPA stuff first was passed by Congress. In the eyes of congress someone was considered 18 if they had a credit card. Excalibur requires a credit card for anyone to view hardcore images on their site.
My experiences ahve been mostly good and the few bad ones were taken care of by management. I used to belong to their rental business and occasionally I would get one of their DVD-Rs that wouldn't play right. Some customer rep was a bit difficult once about a disc that wouldn't play on my set top or my pc. They didn't seem to understand that if it was a good disc it would be impossible for it not to play on my very recent DVDR burner drive. I can't believe they would ever deny that those discs are recordables - they're violet and no commercial DVD is violet or blue. Some of their "homemade" DVDs are quite good and some of them are crap. They seem good about replacing or refunding bad items though. By bad I mean the color sync is really off and the contrast might be too high. I realize that the source a lot of times is a video dub made from something originally recorded on video, but having experience in making DVDs from start to finish from a variety of sources it's not too hard if yer skilled to make things look decent. You can fix all kinds of things with today's software.
Anywho - they have a good policy about being cheaper than anyone else. The only drag about this policy is that you have to buy from them first and then provide them with evidence it's cheaper elsewhere. They won't price match upfront.
Biggest problem I ever had with them was the rental folk putting all 3 dvds in one mailer so I had to pay to send 2 of them back because I wasn't going to watch all 3 in one night. They refused to refund my money (which is actually pretty uncool) but they finally ended up sending me about 20 of there prepaid mailers. Of course, by that time I had taken to copying the movies to my hard drive so I could watch them at my leisure and return them quickly to get more sent to me. I would then delete it from the drive after I watched it.
Any title they have that says check inventory is something you should inquire about before you order it. I also like to ask if the title comes with the original packaging as they do not tell you and as has been noted - they do a lot of their own release that they have licensed from the various companies. Some of which is still available with the original boxart elsewhere. I'm one of those people who likes the artwork - same thing with records - gotta have the packaging - a CD-R just ain't the same.
They also have a great auction setup. I've gotten a bunch of stuff there on the cheap. You can have an email sent to you if it goes up for auction - but you may have to wait awhile for that to happen.
My advice would be give it a go. If you're not happy I'm sure at the very least they will issue you store credit if you aren't happy.

new take on an old thread...i have been an EFD customer for 20 years, but in the past 2 years every order i get has some kind of problem - wrong film, dvd copy dosent work, they claim you owe them a dollar more (and i'm an accountant!) - they always fix it, but its always something with those guys...
