Either way, usb1.2 probably wont work very well, just too slow an interface.

The DVD-RAMs offer much more flexibility, such as erasure of unwanted material (allowing for reuse of erased sections), merging and splitting of chapters, etc. I was hoping to find an external DVD writer drive for my laptop that would take the completed DVD-RAM from the Panasonic and would create a DVD-R from it that could then be finalized and played on most any DVD player. I would presume that it would copy the DVD-RAM contents from the disc onto disk space on the laptop and then create the new DVD-R from that buffered data. So far, the only external DVD writer I've been able to find is the LG Electronics GSA4082B, which is a reasonably priced drive at coolerexpress.com, right now at just over $100. There's another snag ... my laptop has USB ports that only are 1.2, not USB 2.0. With all that, my summary questions: 1) Will I be able to use this drive with a USB 1.2 port (albeit slow) or will it just not work? 2) Will I be able to take DVD-RAM from the Panasonic and ultimately make a DVD-R using this drive?
