ROSEMONT, IL - On the weekend of July 11-13, 2014, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center once again hosted EXXXOTICA Chicago. In Rosemont. Because that's just how these things are named. Anyways, hordes of porn fans and other curious onlookers descended on the convention center to see what all the fuss was about. Was the show bigger and better than ever before? Does a career in the erotic adult industry make any sense these days? Is porn still alive and well?  "CEO." That was Belle Knox's response to Nina Hartley asking what her favorite position is. The "Duke Porn Star" shared her newsmaking story with an attentive audience. An initial tour of the show floor seemed to answer all of the above questions with a sad NO. The floor boundaries did not appear to expand at all since last year. The Weenis (that mechanical bucking boner declared dead in 2013) was not resurrected for a new generation of thrill-seekers. The swanky VIP ballroom of years past (always a great way to get away from the busy crowds for a bit) became the EXXXOTICA VIP Beer Garden: a strange mish-mash of liquor bars and party games located in the back corner of the show floor. The ratio of signing booths to randomly bizarre vendors was almost even, with the scale gradually tipping towards the latter. I don't have a personal problem with the vape craze, but it got a bit ridiculous after I passed the fourth or fifth vape booth and felt my eyes start to water. As you can guess, my first impressions of this year's show were bleak, to say the least.  Phoenix Marie found her own Pop A Pussy at one of the vendor booths. Then she tried to swallow it. Still, this proves you COULD find some worthwhile merchandise back there! But that's when I started to notice some positive upgrades, many of which should make future shows far more interesting and fun. When discussing improvements, you simply have to start with the main stage. That giant blue AEBN curtain is gone, replaced by one seriously kick-ass video wall. It featured highlights from past shows, show schedule updates, and countless animations of the EXXXOTICA logo and their various sponsors. That video wall definitely added a lot of energy and vibrance to the performances and presentations. While we're at the main stage, I also must give special credit to whoever came up with the VIP viewing area. It's such a simple idea: build a raised platform behind the main audience area, giving VIP guests an elevated view over all of those pesky heads. I can't believe they never thought of this before.  Check out the main stage's new look... if you can take your eyes off EXXXOTICA Hottie Trisha for one damn second. The EXXXOTICA Hotties also got an upgrade. No, I'm not talking about boob jobs for the whole crew. If you've been to past shows, you may recall how random their placement was on the show floor. Walk around a corner and BOOM, there's an oddly-placed dancing cage in an empty, low-traffic aisle. Not to mention the fact that those cages created an unwelcome barrier between the dancers and any attendee who wanted to get a picture with them. Well, goodbye, ugly metal cages. Hello, big comfy beds! This was straight-up genius. Who could resist a photo-op with their favorite dancer(s) on a plush bed mattress with pillows and everything? If I didn't have my camera gear on me at all times, I probably would've spent half the weekend relaxing on one of those oh-so-inviting beds. In addition, the stripper pole platforms were situated right in the middle of the main, extra-wide walkways. This added visibility for the girls and kept unwanted aisle congestion to a minimum. Once again, very, very smart.  EXXXOTICA Hottie Marina looks so lonely on that bed. Anybody wanna do something about that? My absolute favorite element of this year's show was provided by Arrangement Finders, who set up an open air photo booth in the middle of their area. With the help of some choice talent courtesy of LA Direct Models - rising starlet Adriana Chechik, fresh newbie Onyx Muse, and a rotating third choice of A-listers Tori Black, Lexi Belle, and Jynx Maze - the Arrangement Finders booth consistently drew the biggest crowds all weekend, and deservedly so. Fans were invited to line up for a three-shot photo booth session with one (or more) of the girls. The fact that you got a free print of your photos as a nifty souvenir was great on its own. But what really drew the crowds was the level of debauchery on display here. Since their very first show, EXXXOTICA has always had a firm policy against public nudity. Nobody (stars and fans alike) is allowed to expose their privates without some sort of covering. Adriana and Onyx looked innocent enough in their professional attire (white button-up shirts and black skirts), but if you stuck around for any length of time, you were guaranteed to see something good.   Onyx Muse flashes two smiles for the photo booth camera, while Abby Lee Brazil gives Adriana Chechik something to chew on. I honestly lost count of the number of times I saw both girls hike up their skirts or open up their shirts, flashing their tits and pussies to the camera. Adriana had no problem with guys spreading her ass cheeks apart to get a perfect shot of that butthole, while Onyx seemed determined to make her vagina a household name by day's end. None of this was done on the sly, but there didn't appear to be any sign of reprimand from booth supervisors until Day Three. Even then, fans were treated to vibrator shows and virtual girl/girl action. Hell, I even enjoyed host Albert's ramblings as he interacted with fans and commented on the finer details of exposed genitalia. Most surprisingly of all, the fans never got too unruly here, despite all of the boundary-pushing shenanigans. As far as I know, nobody was blatantly violated or humiliated. It's sad that I consider that a shock, but there you go.  KandColors tries to become a Rice Krispies Treat for her MyFreeCams audience. I do love a Rice Krispies Treat. Ladies Free Friday is a promotion that has served EXXXOTICA well in the past. This year, however, the Friday crowds in Chicago were nothing short of phenomenal. By the halfway point of Day One, you couldn't walk more than a few steps without bumping into somebody. Tori Black (posing at the Arrangement Finders booth), Lexi Belle, and Phoenix Marie saw lines that never shrank until the closing hour of Friday evening. Of course, you have to take the female fans' free admission into consideration when looking at the numbers. Surely, things would die down a bit on Saturday, right? While it's true that the aisles were not nearly as packed as they were on Friday, Day Two still boasted a steady stream of fans through the main entrance. Sunday finally saw a significant lightening of the crowds, which comes as no surprise. Still, compared to Sundays of past shows, I was still impressed with the number of fans that showed up on the final day.  Burning Angel's Sheena Rose poses with vampire buddy Joanna Angel. No necks were bitten to bring you this photo. I mentioned Tori, Lexi, and Phoenix earlier, but they weren't the only stars who generated buzz. Veronica Rodriguez really stepped up, entertaining fans at a booth dedicated to her own production company. I was not prepared to believe how much her star has risen in the past year. Nina Hartley continues to satisfy her legions of lifelong fans, as they waited patiently to get a photo with that legendary ass. Dillion Harper and Brooklyn Chase made a splash as EXXXOTICA first-timers. Dillion is disturbingly cute, and Brooklyn's recently-enhanced bust gave me pause on several occasions.  Dillion Harper is too fucking cute. That's my witty caption for this photo. I brought up LA Direct Models earlier, but I feel they deserve a special mention here. Derek Hay's talent agency was, in my opinion, the MVP of the entire show. I've already declared my love for Adriana Chechik and especially Onyx Muse, but I also have to mention the small army of talent that LA Direct brought to meet the Chicago fans. Hope Howell, Sophia Fiore, and Rachele Richey - just to name a few - were all worth spending time with. Bringing the great Tori Black to Chicago was a big deal for many fans who never got a chance to meet her in other cities. And I don't even want to think about what this show would've been like without the presence of Lexi Belle and the angelic Allie Haze.  When some doofus asked Tori Black and Allie Haze if they're sisters, this was how they answered, "NO." I'm still not convinced. Meanwhile, Nina Hartley finds peace. As EXXXOTICA Chicago 2014 drew to a close, I was amused (not shocked) to realize how much I missed over the past three days. That's okay, since I stopped trying to see and do everything long ago. Whether you tried to take it all in, or you just came for that specific porn star you've always wanted to meet, this show delivered a plethora of memories. I've had my fair share of conversations with industry talent who are purely in it for the money, and I figured Belle Knox would be just that. It only took a few seconds of chat to see just how wrong I was. Belle is super sweet, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic. First, I had no idea if she was ever coming back. Second and more importantly, I had just discovered she was a massive Disney geek. Who knew this pale tattooed beauty treated Epcot like it was sacred ground? So when Draven made her eventual return to active status, I was itching for the first opportunity to finally see her again and catch up. That company just kills it, year after year. It's the one booth I am determined to spend money on at every show. At a time when so many companies' futures are clouded in doubt, it's comforting to know that Burning Angel continues to chug away at a blistering pace.
