I bought a bunch from a Canadian Company and the artwork is blurry and counterfeit looking, the packaging is less than you would expect, the releases came out in advance, and the discs are like watching old re-runs of Andy Griffith....man, I could get down with Aunt Bee, all covered in pie. Thanks. The problem is kind of fraudulent in nature. I bought the DVDs from a reputable retailer/wholesaler who ordered them from the distribution company they get all of their new releases from. When he placed the weekly order the distributor said the company had access to some good discounted EA DVDs not ever released in the US, uncut versions released in Europe, etc., from Canada. The versions seem to be entire and have scenes edited out in US and they included titles never released or not yet released, i.e., upcoming releases. They were obviously cheap copies which had been mass produced.[Link] |

The Distributor is a New York wholesaler and got the DVDs out of Toronto. If you want more specifics you can write me offline. This was about 4 months ago and I ordered about 15 titles and only opened one. The store would not take them back. It is definitely not EA product, which is and has been the best in the business and getting better all the time. I know the local store bought them for 9 dollars or less and sold them for 30. Just another bunch of stuff that goes into the "Never opened, what am I going to do with 300 unopened DVDs" pile.[Link] |

I live in Alaska, was visiting New Orleans, and the outlet store was there, again the two other involved were a Distributor in NYC and Canada, both making money at 9 dollars...then the local store, then me. Go figure. Normal margins in wholesale retail with 5 points of sale involved in a product that is marked up over 300% in the outlet store means somebody was making EA DVDs for 2 dollars or less.[Link] |

Do the dvd covers say "Valentine Video" anywhere?
Valentine is the company that distribute Evil Angel dvd/vhs here in Canada. But the discs are heavily edited and usually take longer to be released than the original Evil Angel dvd's.
I have on occasion seen a Valentine dvd on store shelves that was an older Evil Angel movie that was only previously available on vhs in the US (an older title that EA still hadn't gotten around to putting out on dvd), but I've only seen that once or twice.
I have never seen an Evil Angel disc on the shelves here in Canada that was an un-edited Euro version.Edited by - M.B. on 7/25/2004 10:37:23 AM [Link] |

No. The giveaway when you compare the same DVD Box and title side-by-side with a real EA DVD release WITH THE SAME TITLE is that the rib is black with blocky white lettering, with a Rocco or other insignia. The covers do not match the DVD releases, the ribs definitely don't, the covers are photo-copies of the old VHS boxes. The quality is like an 8 mm loop. There is a ton of this crap around in the stores on the sale racks.[Link] |

If you find some EA DVDs at a price too good to be true...they are fakes. They will say Evil Angel Video on the logo which will be larger than the Evil Angel DVD logo...also, the entire packaging will be subpar, the pics will be large and fuzzy, the bar codes will be odd, the case will be lighter duty, there will be no cast list, as it is a photo copy of the VHS box cover. The rib of many will simply have black with large white lettering. You will likely find these in many stores as they have come from a poplular New York wholesaler who is getting the dupes out of Canada. When you see the disc it will likely have a very simple pic on it and look like you made it with your home set-up. Lastly the quality will suck. I have mistakenly made some comments about a few releases based on these fakes. Also, if the DVD version is yet to be released, as many of these were and still are, that is another giveaway. Let your store know or your wholesaler you buy from on line. It cost enough to keep a collection without blowing hundreds on fakes.
