Is it just me, or does this show seem REALLY fake? Just all the scenarios and dialogue sounds rehearsed. To anyone who has watched the show, you can't have someone like Stevie be a huge part of a business and still survive.

For the record though, I do like the show, just that they should just make it completely fiction and hire some writers.

It does seem really fake. Watch the credits, writers are credited. The should make up their mind about what the show is supposed to be. It is entertaining though.

The last episode this year seemed just like a bad soap with Mari & Seymore. Also, how can you be a pornstar by night, and then the next morning do office work for the guy who fucked you in the ass? It's just bizarre.

Family Business-

Yeah. It looks extremely staged. It always has but this past season, the show's second, was very obvious about it. I've broached the subject on Seymour's message board at teamtushy.com (warning: pop-ups) I managed to coax a response out of Seymour. According to him, the show is real. Sometimes, they will re-do stuff that they camera may have missed and so they have to act. He said that is why in the credits you have "comedy stylings of" attributed to two guys. That's apparently where they come in.

I personally don't buy it. But I talk to a certain porn star through e-mail quite a bit and she was on the show in the first season. Her appearance was presented as this rather random chance event, running into Cousin Stevie and giving him a lapdance. It works in the episode as pure comic relief as well as nice eye candy, as the girl does take her top off. Ultimately, it looks completely staged but when I asked her she claimed that it wasn't...completely staged that is.

But that was the first season and some of those things may have actually been real. This second season was a joke though. I also agree that the Mari-Seymour connection seemed far too much like a happy coincidence in a soap opera kind of way.

The Cousin Stevie stuff is obviously staged...the Seymore stuff probably less so, but still somewhat manipulated by the creators of the show.

Let's face it, if they were to do a REAL show about how a porn company were run, it would be rather boring...just like any other business operation.

But here's a shock for everyone...almost EVERY reality show on TV is manipulated in some way. From the "exits" of departing contestants on THE APPRENTICE being filmed before anyone got kicked off the show, to some contest footage on SURVIVOR being reshot (sometimes with body doubles!) because the camera missed some action.

Whoa. Talk about fake. I feel like a VERY good portion of Family Business is staged. It's not even that hard to tell. The most obvious is that they go out of their way to paint Cousin Stevie as the foul-mouthed fuckup with the heart of gold who always manages to fix his many screwups at the last minute. Sometimes he's just in plain OUTRAGEOUS situations that no one with half a brain would put themselves in. He's supposed to run an important errand and he's somewhere getting a pedicure or gettin' a lapdance at a hole-in-the-wall porn shop from a major star, Taylor St. Claire? I mean, what are the odds you go into your local store and Taylor St. Claire just happens to be there literally begging to give you a lapdance? Come on...don't insult my intelligence like that.

I can see how it would work on non-fans of porn; they don't Taylor or anyone else from a hole in the wall. They have no idea that people like Jesse Jane and Brittney Skye wouldn't touch Seymour with a ten-foot pole unless it was for money. But we know better. And thus, it's "manufactured"-ness comes shining through and hits us on the head like a 2x4 anytime we watch the show.

Just for kicks watch the first season when Seymour takes Jesse Jane out clubbing. Who's that busty opportunist in the background making every effort to be seen and captured on camera by dancing with Cousin Stevie? Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose , later she ran for Governor of California.

I know parts of "reality" TV shows are rehearsed, edited and/or reshot. Some shows more than others. That's why Mark Burnett tells everyone who will listen that he hates the moniker "reality TV" and prefers the name "unscripted drama."

I watched the first few episodes of Family Business. Didn't seem very realistic but I chalked it up to the thought that the porn business wouldn't seem realistic to somebody outside it.

I watched last week's episode. Myrna got a breast augmentation. Didn't capture my interest.

First off, I don't disagree with you in general. "Family Business" is cleary staged.

Let me just say this: the Taylor St. Claire thing was not as staged as you think.

I like the part where Cousin Stevie lost the audio to a keiko scene, so he and others over dubbed it very poorly only to restore the original audio at the last minute.
