I've often wondered, usually while idling in the ADT chatroom, if some of the more fawning fanboy types who may actually have steady girlfriends, actually have girlfriends who know they are such raving fanboys, and if so, what do they think about it?
Are they slavering fangirls? (Cool!).
Or does the slavering fanboy experience a split personality deal -- a secret life he hides from his significant other? Or worse, are there slavering fanboys who actively avoid having relationships with real, palpable women who would actually fuck them, because they'd rather stay at home and whack off, and spend all their time in chatrooms?
I'm just curious. I slaver myself, with frequency, but while reasonably obsessive, I mostly find outlets such as ADt a fun way to talk with smart people about things that go beyond porn and porn stars. Lately, I've begun to wonder to what degree these outlets might actually be unhealthy for certain personality types -- or maybe, in fact, it is the window of salvation?
On those occasions when I do slaver (and I do on occasion), my wife is made well aware of who I'm slavering over. The best part is that she usually ends up slavering with me. When she doesn't, hey... that's ok. I can go it alone, and she's fine with that. :)
The point is, in my life, my wife knows, whether I'm slavering over Jennifer Garner, or Tiana Lynn.
My interaction with porn and ADT, though, is more along the lines of Skronker's. I'm a fan with a life (albeit perhaps not quite as much of a life right this second as I'd like, but I'm working on that...)
One thing I'm wondering, for instance, is when I meet a new woman who I might hit it off with, is "Is she porn-friendly/sex-positive/open-minded/frisky" or not? And if not, is it even possible for me to date her for very long, cause eventually... though I also imagine my porn consumption would drop drastically if I was getting laid every night (LOL).
My girlfriend is graciously open-minded, but she simply finds porn boring. We've watched some features, but she just made fun of them. Of course, that's all she and I ever do when we watch any kind of movie (we ripped on Phantom of the Opera endlessly even though we both basically enjoyed it) so it was kind of fun...just not in the way I expected.
On the porn issue, I have failed to get her to see the error of her ways and she has failed to get me to see the error of my ways not that I find her pov erroneous or she likewise for my pov.
Does she know about my slavering devotion to, among others, Taylor St. Claire? Is she a fangirl now because of my influence? Not really. To be honest, when I broached the porn topic and discovered she had little interest in the stuff I didn't see the need to tell her my whole story about TSC or anyone else. Though we did talk about Avy Scott and she agrees that Avy is freakishly similar in several ways (neck up) to Leelee Sobieski and Helen Hunt. Plus, my girlfriend wouldn't lust after Taylor or Avy or Jennifer or whoever else with me. She'd be happier to find a guy in the biz she'd like. (I can tell you that thus far Evan Stone is definitely off the list-she made fun of him quite a bit, even though I think she didn't quite realize how funny she was finding his purposely over the top acting)
My brothers have been the ones who have had girlfriends who were into porn. Several times I've had them hit me up for tapes because their girlfriend or date or whatever wanted to watch porn. Then again, none of my brothers are fanboys.
My girlfriend is open-minded also, but she doesn't like to watch porn. She thinks most of the guys are ugly. Does she know about my porn crush on Jasmine Lynn? Kinda, She's seen all the pics I have of her on my porn viewing computer. She's also seen the boxcovers I have with her as the featured covergirl(I collect all of those).
She knows the "type" of girls I usually date. Blonde, brown eyed, with athletic bodies. That's what attracted me to my girlfriend.
Is she a fangirl? Sure, she likes pretty boy/rocker type guys. That's why she's attracted to me
I'm not sure I count in as a fanboy but I have a very understanding girlfriend (we've been together 8 years now so she must be), and on occasion she even watches with me. In the beginning of our relationship I was very much into features and Jenna J especially and that was not so popular, in fact so much that she doesn't want me to see any movies with Jenna in it and I totally respect that. Nowadays I'm strictly into gonzo and I've switched from blonde, big breasted with pink lipstick type of girls to more girls next door type. And thank god she doesn't have a problem with my Teagan, Keri Sable, Deja Daire, Hillary Scott, Sativa Rose, Christie Lee, Jasmine Byrne obsession.
I guess I would. Bryan's still a fanboy at heart. He drools over a lot of the old school porn stars.
Soo...to answer this question, from the ultra-mega-super-fantastic-fanboy's girlfriend perspective, I knew he was a fanboy from the beginning. I didn't know how much of one he was, until I went over his house and saw how much of the Score stuff and old 70's and 80's porn he had. I thought it was more quirky than anything. (I actually wondered what he thought about all that bush!) I'm sure most people reading this post have an idea that I can be and often am a slavering fangirl.
Publicity begins by working on a natural appetite for pleasure. Anyone hungry?

I'll admit that I would have a problem with it. Most the girls I know were slavering fangirls when we were young - from the Rob Lowe days to the Jim Morrison days. We had posters all over our walls. Once I started having relationships with guys I no longer fantasized about celebrities. So if a guy I was with was spending too much time fantasizing about stars I would definitely question the relationship. I obviously wouldn't care if he watched porn. But I would have an issue with him entering into slavering fanboy status.
My bigger issue though would be if the guy I was with was attracted to girls who epitomize the things I don't like about women. Then I would question why he's with me.
I think, reading Steph's response, that I might not be quite the slavering fanboy that Skronker is referring to. :)
My "slavering-ness" is pretty well limited to liking to watch certain porn girls, and seeking out movies where they have their best scenes. I do enjoy meeting them, but only as a means to see what they're like in person, not under any strange misconception that I would actually want to have sex or have a relationship with them. When I sigh because of Jennifer Garner's smile, that's pretty much as far as my slavering fanboy-ness goes.
In any case, my wife knows where she stands, and to her credit, has never felt threatened. I think that a primary reason for that is that I'm more concerned about making her feel loved and appreciated than I am about pretty much anything else in my life.
We have an agreement: I dont bitch about her drooling over Hugh Grant, she doesn't mind me getting movies with Selena Silver, or who ever gets me fixed at that moment.
OTOH, I tend to be into a pornstar for a few months, and then find a new starlet to grab my attention, where she still gets all excited 'bout watching '4 weddings and a funeral'. If anyone should be jealous, it's me!!
