I might be a little behind the curve on this subject since this movie came out several months ago, but I just got my copy and watched it this weekend.

What's everyone raving about? Agreed it is a very high quality movie (by porn standards) but the acting still plays like an early Police Woman episode from 1973. The women's looks were average with the exception of Belladonna, but I really think her looks were at least partially enhanced because the other women are less than hot and by comparison she smokes.

I guess B&D are not what really get me going, but with the right females I think it could be very hot.

Just wanted to get others opinions on the subject and see if I was the only one who feels this way.

Maybe you should buy some Vivid movies, I think you will like those kind of movies a lot more.

The Fashionistas is one of the best adult movie ever made but Face Dance is still the best!

When you consider that the actors in The Fashionistas were all porn stars with no formal training in acting, I consider the above statement high praise.

No, Zaxx, you're not the only person who wasn't impressed with The Fashionistas, but based on all that I've heard and read, your opinion is definitely in the minority.

As for my own assessment of The Fashionistas, I thought the excessive length of each sex scene interfered with the flow of the story, and made the running time of the movie much longer than was really necessary. But overall, I found the movie to be outstanding. It would have been perfect shorn of its great length with better editing (IMO, editing is John Stagliano's Achilles' heel).

zaxx,

You will find that there are a few people who agree with you.

I, however, am not one of them. I thought the ladies were gorgeous, and although the acting is certainly not great, it's alot better than most adult films of this kind--what's more, it explored adult topics that are outside the norm in a fantastically powerful and visceral way, and managed do that while including and integrating some of the best executed and filmed sex scenes I've ever seen.

Certainly the movie isn't for everyone--we all know porn appreication is frighteningly subjective--and I certainly don't mean to say that you SHOULD like it. But you did ask for opinions, and those are just a few of the reasons I disagree with your assessment.

I agree that the acting is above average for the porn industry, but it is still painful to watch in places. I guess I lean toward gonzo because I just hate bad acting. It's kind of an interesting question though. Is there a cross over point at which the acting is tollerable given the rest of the movie is loaded with sex appeal? Strip Tease (Demi Moore) for example, bad acting, but maybe tolerable given the other content.

Did the acting in Fashionistas add to the movie? I think it did in some areas. Would it have been better with less or more "drama footage"?

Oh is that So? The fashionistas was the total package a combo of gonzo and feature.

What MLyons said. The movie actually had a plot that worked with the sex scenes, was beautifully captured and had passable acting, especially considering that porn performers aren't 'chosen' for their ability to deliver dialogue. Sounds like you see a half-empty glass where a lot of us see one that's half-full. So, whaddaya want, gonzo? OK, been there, getting bored with that, I found Fashionistas to be a welcome change of pace.

PS - We'll never get everybody to agree on which actresses are hot and which are not so I won't even bother going there.

what about the Ass Collector. This movie looks CREEPY. that piques my interest. some semblance of a creepy story would be exciting to see in porn.

I have to disagree also. The movie (it was on film) was lit well, the acting was much better than any porn film I can think of---in fact I bet many of those actors were/are actors and are taking lessons. The editing was really great, the best Stagliano has done, and he is one of the best shooters and editors in the business IMHO.

I wrote him to congratulate him and tell him how good I thought it was and unfortunately he thought my comments on his editing meant his previous stuff was not that good. Got to learn to read over letters more carefully.

Long movies are a little hard to take, I will agree there. But I hope Fashionistas is remembered as a classic and a high point in porn. You could really tell John was reaching for the stars with this one.
