This was sort of a question posed on this week's ASK THE EMPIRE question. Among the best have to be John Stagliano and John Leslie. Of course, Paul Thomas does outstanding work, and Veronica Hart has had some damn successful hits.

Anybody else that I've overlooked?

Those are the biggies... Maybe Brad Armstrong on the second team and Rocco Siffredi as a third stringer?

I would think Candida Royalle would be first team. Sixty-three roles as a performer; Directed fourteen titles. And her films as a Director were originally very well received as filling a niche -- couple's films.

Argh! Stupid me...I forgot to mention Candida Royalle in my response. Her videos were indeed a landmark for couples' films.

I haven't seen enough of John S.'s stuff but John L., Candida, Veronica, Paul and a few others should be on the short list.

Diesel, in reference to Ms Royalle's works, you meant to say ARE and not WERE, right?

Well, to be truthful Houston Don, I am unaware of any recent films of her which have been as critically or popularly well-received as some of her videos from the eighties. Then again, I may be out of touch.

As far as the comedy end of porn I think Johnathan Morgan does a damn fine job. His video Double Feature absolutely cleaned up last year and didn't he direct the video for which Serenity won best actress this year?

Diesel, She's still out there and her work is actually getting better. She is routinely ignored by a large portion of the industry since her work is designed to fit a niche market (of course, it is also designed to expand the market to non-traditional buyers too). Hardcore smut lovers or fans of abuse to women stuff probably hate that her stuff sells consistently over time while theirs is usually forgotten after the first few weeks it's released (ie: the rental market has bought it).

I remember seeing a couple of reviews that were very positive about her work last year. One was on Rog's site (I think Erica reviewed it) and the other was here (guess who).
