Does any one find it difficult to get off to porn that is old? By old I mean 10-30 years give or take. I guess I some times find it hard to jack off to scenes that were shot before I was born (1981, I'm of legal age). It's weird to think that the women I'm watching getting fucked (if they are still alive) probably currently look nothing like they do on my old video. Also, what about the porn stars who have died, specifically by suicide? Does anyone else find these scenes lose their heat if you know the girl you are getting off to isn't even among the living?
Please spare me the smart ass remarks and flames. Has anyone else ever had serious thought about the issues I've raised?
I never thought I would get into watching porn classics, but I actually love it. Specifically 1970's stuff. I watch it on AEBN all the time.
One of the things I dig about it is that 70's porn was just a free-for-all. Nowadays, porn is very specific. There are entire series dedicated to one specific thing (DP, feet, big tits, etc). But when you watch a porn flick from back then, you never know what you're gonna get, and it's kind of cool.
Also, the porn stars generally looked more natural. No boob jobs, and they didn't shave their bushes. The trade off is that the guys didn't shave either, so you get a lot of hairy-man-ass, but what are you gonna do? At least they mixed up the cum shots a little bit. In the 70's, when a guy was ready to cum, he just pulled out and let it fly (on her tits, stomach, butt, wherever). Now every guy has to hold it until he can shoot in her face. That gets very old after a while, and again, just seems so forced and scripted.
I can only appreciate porn down to the era I grew up in, which was mid to late-80's, but I've never really gone beyond that. As a lover of feature, I know I'm missing out on some incredible stuff but it would be very difficult to relate and identify to the performers, be it in terms of look or clothes or even the musical soundtrack. Then again, maybe I'm totally wrong and I really should try.
Also and more concretely, there were not a lot of attractive male performers before the 80's, which is my main deterrent.
Hey glad to see the appreciation for the classics . It doesn't make me feel weird at all. I watch some things that probably should make me feel weird, but they don't either. I can't decide right now if things just don't make me feel weird, or if that feeling is just my normal mode. Anyway, most of the porn I watch is old. I don't always even watch it just to yank the doodel, I like it as entertainment too. It doesn't bother me if I wasn't alive yet or that some of the stars are dead; that might even add to the mystique and curiosity. I like music and regular movies and things from before I was born that have dead people who've od'd and stuff in them, why not porn too?
From time to time it is weird for me. For example, the more I think about it the less I enjoy Kay Parker scenes. I look at how old she was then, and just end up doing the math and figuring out about how old she is now. Plus, I too feel a bit uncomfortable watching anything made before I was born (1982). However, I really prefer how the old porn stars looked, at least before implants and comically big hair took over. Even though there is something innately depressing about it-these were failed actors and actresses-I often enjoy the aspect of the classics where I feel like I'm watching an adult film instead of a fuck flick (even though with few exceptions there is no real difference).
The thing that troubles me more than the mere age aspect is the reality of the performer's lives. For example, I haven't really watched any Samantha Fox films since I found out how troubled her life was during her career [check out her performance in Her Name Was Lisa for hints of it]. I recently got into Hyapatia Lee's Vivid work, particularly The Masseuse , but this is a woman who grew so sick of being Hyapatia Lee that she faked her own death. Sometimes I have trouble reconciling that with enjoying her scenes. Plus, there are girls like PJ Sparx who just flat out disappeared, winning Hall of Fame awards for PJ Sparx (not that she was there to accept it) well after that person ceased to exist. Then I start wondering if she regrets her time in the biz, or if she's just sensibly moved on. Or you hear stories of Anna Ventura going through Julianne Moore-Boogie Nights style custody battles. I realize I'm probably overthinking it.
As for porn stars that have died, if I know that they are dead I usually can't watch their stuff. Goes for the guys (especially John Holmes) and girls. Listening to Cecil Howard's commentary on the Night Trips DVD was incredibly depressing because it was like a trail of broken dreams and lives (it seemed like everyone in the film other than Veronica Hart had some sad story, many of them now dead or rumored to be dead).
As for then vs. now, I dig the energy of girls like Sara Stone and Sunny Lane. Current girls are prone to be nastier, nastier not having to mean anal and like extremities (not always nastier though-Velicity Von is like a new Taija Rae, looking and fucking just like her). The way the scenes are shot also ideally lends itself toward the girls genuinely enjoying themselves more as opposed to acting like they are during a long day on set (the facial expressions can be unintentionally hilarious), though there will always be some degree of performing. The lighting is also much better now. I have grown tired of the girls always dressed up as whores, the amount of throat gagging and face slapping, the marginilization of sex into easily packaged specialities and fetishes, and the compulsory conclusion of a potentially dehumanizing facial. It just seemed more natural in older porn when the guys would just pull out and shoot off on a girl's lower back or stomach or whatever. Maybe this shouldn't bother me, but current guys seem abnormally hard. Blowjobs have nothing to do with stimulation and everything to do with lubrication now. In old porn, after the guys cum they go flaccid; modern guys cum and their cocks stay rock hard, as if they're ready to shoot three more scenes that day. Also, how often do girls get eaten out in today's porn?
I like to think the same thing, too. I can listen to Hendrix or Cobain or Buckley or Layne Staley or whatever other dead musicians I'm a fan of and not feel weird. Chuck Klosterman argues that their music actually sounds better because their dead, but that's neither here nor there. I can watch old films the same way. However, with porn we are watching people at their most physically intimate level. That's the part that hangs me up on various levels.
I have thought about this some. I watched a lot of 80's porn and really liked it at the time but when I see it now it seems silly. Some of the girls were very beautiful and some were hot but I don't think they match up with the best performers of today. It was a more marginal enterprise then. Now, everyone knows about porn, pornstars are famous, they're on TV (sort of), and so many more young women seem to want to do this for a while.
I've also thought occasionally of what some of these women might look like now and that is a bit of a downer. Hard living and marginal financial lives have probably not done a lot for many of them. I'd be curious, in a sort of staring-at-the-wreck way to see what Keli Richards or Elle Rio might look like now.
I love the old porn from the 80s. Nina Hartley, Candida Royalle, Sharon Mitchell etc etc. All those girls were and still are amazing. The girls now could learn a lesson or two from those ladies.
Just found a copy of The Naughty Victorians , which was the first porno I ever saw about 27 years ago (able to sneak into a theatre that didn't care about ID). Still hot.
I love old school porn. It's the best! Some of today's greatest directors performed during that era. I find it truly intriguing to watch them.
For me love to watch porn like that. The girls back then were women and porn had a lot more class than today's porn. It wasn't just a couch in a room with a girl getting fucked in the ass, a girl being abused by a man or women, it wasn't double anal, wasn't dp's, it wasn't gangbangs, 5 on 1's (which I love so much!)or anything to that nature. And if it was any of those things it had class! Also the market wasn't flooded with it.
Also the people back then were there because they truly loved to fuck. Not here for money or trying to be Jenna or whatever the case maybe. They were because they LOVED SEX and probably still do. lol
Anyways! I am not trying to knock the porn nowadays. I love it. I love how it has evolved and the industry has grown. An I certainly love doing all the dirtie stuff that porn has to offer me. But I just would like to see some of the things from that era to come back that's all.
It's nice that people can appreciate both yesterdays and todays porn. As stated above, they're completely different animals. Sometimes today's porn gets stuck in rut and everything seems the same. That's where classics really come into play for me...they add a little variety.

I have to agree with Taryn, in saying old school porn was more "classy." To me, the classics are like today's couple's films, but with a Hell of alot more passion and intensity. There was also a realistic/voyeuristic feel to it all, like you were watching real love being made.
My only gripe would be that women (with exception to only a few) almost always kept their shoes on. This was very frustrating for a little boy with a budding foot fetish ;)

The difference is you are not jacking off to images of Hendrix and Cobain. I can watch old porn and I can watch porn with dead males but when it comes to porn with dead women I can't separate film from reality as well. There is this quasi-necrophilia feeling I get when watching a Lea DeMae scene because the rational part of my brain(which doubles as my prime sexual organ) knows the fantasy is dead.
you engage different parts of your brain when you're aroused, and it can open that door to necrophilia if you have an active imagination, which most people have unless they're completely desensitised due to too much tv and porn.

I meant there's a part of me that thinks "Ugh ick that's kind of necrophiliacky", not "Oooh cool that's kind of necrophiliacky."

No. It doesn't bother me. The movie and the scenes are a fantasy to me. And more often than not, I know less about the people in 80s porn on a personal level than the people that are current.
As the person who initiated this thread, here are my thoughts:
I too enjoy watching golden age movies as well as modern porn. If I am in the mood for something with a little more substance plot-wise, I'll almost always pop in a golden age flick. If I want something to wank too, I find it easier to get off to current movies, although I do have a few GA scenes that are favorites. I suppose there have been times that I have watched a film and thought "I wasn't even born when this was made" or "damn, I'm as old as this movie". Having such thoughts isn't conducive to masturbation, at least for me. Perhaps I need to try and view the movie as a fantasy, and not so much as a time capsule to a period long since past.
With regard to deceased starlets, I strongly disagree with those who said it's no different than reading books by deceased authors and listening to songs by deceased musicians. Why? Quite simply, because porn, in my mind, is created for an entirely purpose. It is intended to arouse the viewer sexually. Regardless of how the filmmakers or anyone else may try to sugarcoat it, regardless of how intricate the plot maybe, in the end, such films are made and intended to be jerkoff fodder. I'm not saying porn can't be enjoyed on other levels. Just that the primary focus is to illicit a sexual response from the audience. That being the case, I do find it hard to enjoy scenes with deceased starlets because the thought of death is always there. More specifically in those cases in which we know the actress committed suicide. Such cases are even more disturbing in my opinion, because we (well at least I) can't help but watch them onscreen and question whether or not they are enjoying their work. As a viewer, I get off if I believe the performers are getting off. They may not be getting off all the time, I understand that. But, if they've convinced me that they are enjoying themselves even one iota, they have done their jobs, and I'm a happy viewer. Knowing the starlet would go on kill herself doesn't exactly fit in with having a “good time”, and therefore watching them doesn't do it for me.
Mostly, I find mid-to-late 1980's porn to be silly, except for the actual sex. The plotlines, the dialog, the music, the sets -- even the editing -- to be shamelessly pretentious. Traci Lords was my fav starlet...and now I realize that I liked her best when they let her be what she really was: a teen slut. The rest of the time they put so much makeup on her she looked like every other porn hussy.
Right now, in the U.S., the Soap Opera cable channel is running, in its entirety, the now-defunct soap "Another World". They are into the late 80's episodes. Add explicit sex scenes to this and it would look just like 80's porn.

Another thing why aren't companies doing more remakes of the porn films of the 70s/early 80s? Sure you have you occasional Cafe Flesh and Barbara Broadcast tributes but there are so many others. Plus you don't need to make it so and so II or return to so and so, just swipe the plot and repackage it into a new movie with a different title. It happens in Hollywood every week.
I went back recently and watched one of the very first porn movies I saw as a kid in the eighties. It was called "The Pink Lagoon". I think it starred Gina Lynn and Ron Jeremy among others and I found nothing arousing or strokeworthy about it at all. I think it was critically acclaimed at the time.
Personally, my reasons for watching porn are purely carnal. I like to watch it and masturbate. I don't think Coppola or Kubrick could make anything as good as Mike John, Brandon Iron, or Jules Jordan. In a word, features don't interest me at all.
Thinking back through the 70s 80s and most of the 90s. I really can't name one title that I think is worth owning or even viewing. My remembrance of porn past can be summed up as follows: Horrible music, poor lighting, genitals totally obscured by pubes, generally incredulous story lines, cum dodging, and the ever ubiquitous frame-up of the male talents face as he ejaculates. Later in the eighties and nineties we had girls with big ugly hair, ridiculous balloon -shaped breasts and guys dressed up as goats or devils; whatever. I could go on and on.
I actually think we are coming to the end of kind of a golden age of porn that began somewhere in the mid to late nineties and was brought about partially by the fall of the Soviet Union and the subsequent opening up of the Eastern Bloc countries. Or maybe that time frame just coincides with the birth of gonzo and my preference for European talent.
As kind of a side note: Many in this thread have brought up the subject of body hair. This film mentioned above - Pink Lagoon - of course features not only unshaven women as was common in those days, but a scene where one of the male actors has a back full of hair. I'm not talking about a few wisps about the small of the back but a full-on pelt that covers his shoulder area and beyond. He bangs away and the girls in the scene are rubbing and touching it like it ain't no thing. Just wierd how attitudes change over time.
Old school porn is da bomb because the women back then seem more real than the women today. And most of them seem like they really enjoyed having sex. Unlike todays women with that loud fake ass scream they be doing. 70's and 80's porn is the best. Just got me a Lili Marlene collection and I know it will be hotter that any thing I got that's current.

I think you mean Ginger Lynn. Gina Lynn would have been about five at the time. As far as nothing worth owning from the 80s you might want to check out some Dark Brothers or John Leslie movies of the time.
That's essentially what I was trying to say (the bit about porn being people at their most physically intimate level). So, even if you didn't realize we were in agreement thanks for putting it so succinctly. Seeing porn stars on-screen that I know to be dead somehow enhances the objectification to me. It's the dynamic of thinking of this object on my screen as a person that has now died, far too often through self-destructive means. And that then gets me re-thinking porn in general...hence what I said earlier about thinking of the realities of the performer's lives.
Am I the only one who think that today's porn is far better than anything from the 70's or 80's? Pubes, silly plots, cheap music, bad lightning/directing, not so good looking girls,... Bad bad bad...
I suppose it depends what one means by "old porn" If it's the 90's we're talking about, then no. TBO, I haven't seen any from the 70's and 80's and so can't comment on those.
In my opinion 70's and 80's porn was better for the simple reason the acting was better, John Leslie was brillant back in the day and now he is a great director like most porn studs from back in the day. The Dark brothers movies from the 80's were very good too, they were also very funny too. I am 34 so my prime with porn was in the 90's and that sucked until the late 90's, that is when porn got a hell of a lot better. I would loved to have seen porn chicks from back in the day do gonzo.
I don;t feel weird watching old porn at all - for the simple reason that it far exceeds anything being put out today. The plasticity and roughness of today - all very predictable - guys also jacking off onto the girls face or mouth, all porrly done poor quality video cam, so unclassy looking. No I's take the porn loops and feature movies from the 70s any day. Sex was much better, freer, women in control, guys shot whereever and when ever, better positions wheterh one on one or three or foursomes, but really, the men were not always on top and standing when they shot...sometimes they were being ridden by one or two or more women and the women pulled the guys cock out and jacked it until he shot...many variations of this as well...also women wore classy "outfits" - a bra, corset or teddy, garter belt and stocking and high heels - loved when one or two or more women were wearing these outfits while they were screwing with a totally naked guy, shows women in control. I could go on...feel free to email or Im if you want to talk more about the porn of the 70s and 80s...
no, I love the old stuff. Believe it or not porn from the bygone days had a lot more 'innocence' to it if that's the right kind of term. Linda Lovelace famously deepthroating Harry Reems in Deep Throat is still quite damn arousing. And anything with Little Oral Annie doing her famous disappearing acts with penises' can match any shit out there today.
I guess I'm going to jump in this discussion. IMHO, there was a time in the history of porn where the movies were erotic, you never knew what would come next AND you watch from beginning to end because, as silly as it often was, there was a plot.
The women were mostly natural and if they weren't, they had they ghastly scars underneath their EEEE breasts (like Candy Samples). Everyone had hair - all over. John Holmes was ending, Jeremy Butler was the, uh, king, and Ron Jeremy was skinny and a newbie. Ginger Lynn was not only the hottest porn star, she was the hottest star anywhere (save for my beautiful Angel).
While some of the stuff in the 1970's is certainly erotic, the sex in subpar on so many levels. Most of the stuff made post 1989 is not erotic and the sex is gynecologic. For me, my classic era starts with a few movies in the 70's and extends easily through the mid eighties. I gave up on porn in the early 1990's because I didn't find watching silicone "not" move terribly erotic or interesting. For example, I found Tori Welles to be much sexier pre-implant! When I got back into this hobby in early 2004, I was able to submerge myself in the best of the prior ten years and it was great.
I have a large collection of classic porn on DVD and tape. I find the classics last longer in our memories while the newer stuff is so 'act'-specific that it is very interchangable - honestly, is there really much difference between "Cum-Swapping-Just-Over-18's-Who-Do-Anal 25" and "Cum-Swapping-Just-Over-18's-Who-Do-Anal 59"?
I will say that I find much of the stuff that Brad Armstrong and even Stormy put out these days is very similar to the 1970-plot-based porn.
The bottom line is that I am a fan of anything that is well-filmed, directed, edited, is not a carbon-copy of everything else out there and holds my attention.
And BTW, I have no problem watching Annette Haven (who would now be 52), Kay Parker (who would now be 62), Aunt Peg (67), Seka (62) or anyone else from that era. Frankly, other than the late Linda Lovelace (were she alive, she would be 67), Stacy Donovan (42) and a few others, I'm sure they would have no problem with us watching them either.

Amber, Gina, Ginger, Gamber, I knew I would get something wrong in that screed. But strange you mention John Leslie. I would give credit to him and his mid - late 90's 'Voyeur' series along with some of Stagliano's work for inspiring my interest in porn.
I don't find it weird to watch old porn. I regularly go back to older stuff from Diabolic, Anabolic and studios from the 1990s. I recently came across a scene from the 1980 movie with Marilyn Chambers called Insatiable. I remember seeing it back in the early 80s, but I don't remember much about it. The one scene I have is with Richard Pacheo where Marilyn gives Richard a blowjob as he leans back against a car. I've been collecting and watching porn for over 40 years and this is one of the best blowjob scenes I've ever seen.
I got the scene from Adult Prime (not Adult Time) on a channel they have for classics. Unfortunately, they either don't have the rest of the movie or if they do, the naming system they use makes it impossible to find. I even tried IAFD because they link to various VOD sites, but all those sites have some anime movie also called Insatiable.
Bottom line - who cares how old it is? If you like it, it doesn't matter.
Nope, i was watching some angel and ashley long threesome scenes last night and some Sydney steele and avy scott scenes, and i regularly watch scenes from the likes of lauren phoenix, gia paloma, katja kassin, mellisa lauren, sandra romain, Hilary scott, kelly wells and others from 2000 onwards
rearadmiral wrote: ^^ Thanks. I think I'll buy it. That one scene I have is amazing.
Most welcome. My memory of That blowjob scene I always think of the song "Sandy suck it faster". IMO another thing we miss in the modern porn is Great Fucking Music soundtracking. It's not all just wah wah pedal funk or four to the floor disco either. These movies had great scores quite often by talented composers.
I've found you have to kind of "search around the title" putting in actress or distributor and then you'll find the correct movie. That goes for all platforms - Adultempire, Pop Porn, Hotmovies, Iafd's own streaming videos, they're all based on the same UI and seems to be owned by the same people.
Yeah the Iafd search is sometimes gnarly but there isn't a whole lot of content that was on vhs or dvd that hasn't been digitized, although you don't always get the director-producer intended version. Pee and fisting tended to be cut when they were released to home video just in case The Prosecutors got their panties in a wad.
Obviously the Meese commission and the MiPorn FBI investigation into organized crime put certain strictures (even self imposed) on pornographers which the internet/ gonzo / Max Harcore style kind of blew the doors off of after the 1996 Clinton victory.
There was a fisting scene apparently in insatiable but no version was ever released with it intact - Serena gives some five finger loving to Marilyn Chambers but it was left on the cutting room floor, that's even if it *was *definitely filmed.
Insstiable also has Chambers best ever scene with David Morris, the hotness of the pool table and the kinky scenario and dirty talk therein is legendary.
I see on Adultprime - so for free - they have the full movie The Resurrection of Eve - if you've never seen it and you like Instiable, you should watch it, I remember it being a really excellent example of scripted 70s adult erotica, starring Chambers and directed by San Fran's Mitchell Brothers.
