Who are the greatest female directors? I'm loving Jewel De' Nyle and Mason right now. And do male stars have difficulty taking direction from them?

I remember seeing this question before. For me it's Lizzie Borden because she goes further than any other female director. She learned a lot from Rob Black, that's obvious.

I hope one day I can check out a Mason movie but right now I don't like her casting.

Mason is by far the best director today. I think she really takes the time to cast performers who have a connection with one another instead of just throwing performers together who aren't going to have any chemistry. That's why she doesn't have to sacrifice her material with pointless nonsense & can simply shoot really hardcore hot sex. She's the best around. I also like Toni English, who directs for the couple's genre. She captures her scenes beautifully such as the Chasey Lain-Rocco Siffredi scene in CHASEY LOVES ROCCO, among others.

Belladonna has impressed me on more than one occasion. I haven't seen her newest film yet but I am in awe over her 2nd perversion!

For features, Veronica Hart normally does a fantastic job. Kat Slater has also done some fun stuff. There's a couple other women who have done very nice jobs behind the camera, but I can't think of them right now!

What change to you see? Or does it just give you wood thinking that a woman was behind all the naughtiness?

Except for a few isolated cases, most female directors aren't making anything much different then the male directors. I can't say that I have any favorites.

To wit: I bet there are still people out there who believe that Jane Waters is a woman.

I think some female directors, who are also current or retired performers, are simply credited as the director for the financial gain of the movie. They may have very little to do with the actual directing process and could be better credited as a casting director. When it comes down to the actual filming & editing of the scenes, it may be done exclusively by men. This is why, in my opinion, you see very little (if any) difference in their directorial efforts. I think if some female directors had more input on their product (i.e. the shooting of scenes & editing) you would not only see a difference but the films would be tremendously better.

I'm watching out for Skye Blue. She often casts handsome men and the degree of sexual heat in her movies is just right for me (nothing too over the top, nothing too romantic). I also think she's an interesting person, judging by the few interviews I've read of her. Toni English is often hit or miss. And yes, I thought Jane Waters was a woman !

I think that either gender, if he or she is a good director, will improve their product by being involved in each step of the creative process. That is what I like about Mason's movies. She casts them, shoots the scenes herself & is involved in the editing process as well. It's her art. It's her creativity. In turn, obviously men & women see many things differently. It's possible that the more a female director is involved in her own project, the less likely it would look like 97% of the other productions out there which are cast, directed, filmed & edited almost entirely by men. Also, if there were more female directors such as Mason out there, their films might appeal more to viewers who often feel neglected or left out of what they want to see (making them better films for those viewers to watch).

There are many male directors that I have a lot of respect for & whose films I really enjoy. Obviously, these are just my opinions & I think that the industry is big enough for all types of entertainment that is pleasing to a diverse audience. Simply because I don't like a certain director or film doesn't make it bad but I do feel that the more quality a director puts into his or her film, the more it shows in the final product.

There's no doubt that different people watch porn for different reasons. I watch in hopes of seeing real sexual emotions. I love being able to see facial expressions, especially during rough sex, and to not be confined as a viewer in one long never ending close or low shot of only one thing. I prefer to see a variety of things (facial expressions, oral/intercourse & body shots) in one nice wide shot that doesn't miss or leave out anything. There is a lot of real sexual chemistry & intensity in porn today (more open minded performers, etc) but those moments are often left out in an attempt to get as close as possible visually to the sexual acts.

First, just a pet peeve: the first, and least expensive step in making better smut is to stop calling the work "product" and the audience "consumers".

Now back to my question. In your previous post you asserted that authentic woman-directed porn would be "tremendously better" than work directed by a man. Again, my question is: Why?

Jewel de nyle was great to work with, knows exactly what she wants and how she wants it! And i like working that way!!She also has a great make up artist btw!

Suze and Holly Randall are now doing movies, and its the same fun in front of their photocamera as it is for video!

I am soon working with Kat Slater, so i am looking forward to that!

I never meant to conclude that female directed porn would be better than male directed porn. Another poster mentioned that he didn't see much of a difference from the product of female & male directors. The point I made in my original post was that I thought perhaps some of the female directors did not have much input in their movies outside of the casting process & distributing it under their professional name. I also explained in my last post that what I meant by "tremendously better" was that their films might appeal more to a viewer like myself if they were more involved in the other processes of their films such as camera work & editing by adding a more feminine touch to the material. Female directors might capture or edit a scene in a different way that would be more appealing to me (such as Mason's work). I was saying that those films would be better for my viewing pleasure, not better in the sense of being of higher quality than those directed by their male counterparts. As I said, there are male directors that I like. What turns me on most about Mason's work is that she tends to stay longer with the wider shots that reflect more sexual chemistry between the performers. In conclusion, I was saying that female directors with more of a creative input in their films might capture something different than a male directing a similiar scene, which would be better for me as a viewer.

Take care,
Lori

The mistake is mine. I infered that you felt that whomever these director-in-name-only women were bearding for (presumably a man,) the resulting video would be better if it had more direct creative involvement from the woman being credited as the director, and that this improvement could and should be attributed to her gender.
