And I probably wouldn't have lasted that long except that I was conciously watching for it. But the fact of the matter is, between staring at a watermark or staring at Natasha (or Sabrine, or Amee, or Krystal, or Cris), you'd have to be dead as a log to allow yourself to focus on that watermark. One girl is getting banged missionary with her legs pushed back, the watermark appears right next to her face because of the position she's in. In another screenshot, a girl is riding cowgirl and the watermark is right on the guys sack. And in the third screenshot a girl is blowing three dudes and the watermark is on the shaft of the guys cock she is sucking. I don't care how good the sex is, when I'm watching people fuck I want to see them fucking, not an ad for a website (which is totally useless due to the fact that anyone who wants to pirate the footage can put their own logo over it, or just blur it out). I'm spending my $30 somewhere else.

On this set the entire watermark was visible, part of it was cut off of the screen because the overscan of this TV was set too high (although I didn't know that at the time). After seeing this, I was a little hopeful that the watermark was right at the bottom right edga of the picture. When I got home, I tried watching some of the disc on my 56" widescreen rear projection HDTV. That's when I found out that there was too much overscan on the TV at the video store. The watermark was up a few inches from the bottom of the screen. Even using the "zoom" mode that I typically use to watch 4:3 material on the 16:9 set the watermark was immediately at the bottom of the screen. The watermark is not real bright and virtually disappears when it is over a light background. However, when the background becomes dark (like during some closeups of Krystal Steele's ass) the watermark jumps out at you. It actually becomes more noticible because it's as if the watermark suddenly appears out of nowhere. Lastly, I watched some of the disc on a 34" direct view HDTV with similar results as the 56" set. In the earlier thread on FH4, I stated that I would not be buying any of the discs that contained watermarks. My self-imposed boycott didn't last too long. I bought this disc today. I liked the movie more than I hated the watermark. However, I think that the presence of the watermark will definitely have an affect on the decision whether to purchase future JJ titles or not. In the past, when I was "on the fence" about whether or not to buy one of these disce, I usually bought it. I don't know if that will be the case anymore. I still don't think tha the presence of the watermark will do anything to prevent websites from showing Jules' stuff. If that's the case, then the only reason for the watermark is to be an advertisement for JJ's website. That's not a good enough reason for putting it there. I really hope that this experiment fails. But, c'mon folks, this ain't goddam "Citizen Kane," it's a stroke flick. It's a really damn good stroke flick. But some lettering in the bottom right corner of the screen isn't gonna impede my pleasure any more than the menu on those recent RLD DVDs. Do I like it? I can take it or leave it. But if you spend your time fretting over such a quiet and tastefully deployed watermark, what are you watching a porn movie for anyway? There's nothing to complain about. Unless you think the quality of Jules's camerawork or cocksmanship or casting or lighting or soundtrack or costumes or locations or DVD production work aren't up to snuff. I mean, if you really don't like it, don't buy the DVD. BUt if you love what Jules does with a camera and a girl, don;t let it stop you. That would be downright silly. [Link] |

I'm still definitely against it in principle, but the truth is it didn't bother or distract me that much. It's better with motion on the screen than it is in static screenshots. I didn't have any trouble focusing on what I was supposed to focus on. That said, I still hope he doesn't set any kind of standard. I can live with it on a disc I'm gung-ho to watch, like this one, but for run-of-the-mill rental porn, I might still consider it intrusive and less justified. Sometimes when watching a tv program (let's say NYPD Blue just for arguments sake) you will see the watermark on the screen. However, if you were to go and BUY the first season of NYPD Blue on dvd you will notice that the watermark DOES NOT appear when viewing. By purchasing the dvd, you have the privilage of not having a watermark intrude on your viewing. My point is that if I'm going to spend $25-$30 on a dvd, I don't want any logo on my screen. I won't be buying Flesh Hunter #4 or any other watermarked dvd. [Link] |
