Steve Hirsch, the president of Vivid Video is part of a very short list. Also, I'd say the (generally) faceless heads of the major video distribution companies should be counted as the most powerful.
Certainly some underlings at the distribution companies will be amongst the most powerful people in porn in the future. I guess they could be considered rising stars. I don't know the names of the folks in the distribution channels, but there you have it.
Basically, when you ask the question "who are the most powerful people in (insert industry)?" the correct answer is "some rich old white guys whose names you wouldn't recognize unless you are in (insert industry)". Porn is not an exception to this rule.
There's no question about the top 10 most powerful people in porn. Ask any video company. It will be their top 10 distributors who weild the most power. And the power behind the distributors will be the consumers that buy the video.
You told me I had to give you that blow job because you were the #3 most powerful person in porn! You said you had the list right there for me to look at, but I couldn't read it through the blindfold. You said to "just trust you on this one".
Now I find out you AREN'T the 3 most powerful person in porn???
I would also give the buying public some big props here as if we aren't buying it then it will stop being made, not as simple as that perhaps but we do wield a lot of power with our greenbacks! I would also say the people who make the toys all the stars use and also that the rest of us, not me,hehe, use would also be high up on the list!
Okay, after careful consideration, maybe I should change my answer.
The most powerful person is Steph, followed by Drew. I'm not too sure about #3, but it's probably DenverDon. Anyone who describes themselves as "benevolent" is anything but.
Also, Walter Burns is probably up there. Anyone who uses a Muppet as an avatar must have ulterior motives. There is no other logical explanation.
I'd say Larry Flynt. Im not sure but doesn't he now own VCA and Vivid (or their distribution rights)? Arena magazine (not sure their experts mind- they mention Joey Stagliano too) had a top 50 of the most powerfiul people in porn and Flynt was top in that.
The consumers. Look at movie trends, the porn makers have to make what the fans want. If they don't, they want make alot of money. Money is always the bottom line.

you'd have to define power better - i'm assuming a large part of power is wealth. i'd think some of the old school big distributors of which i'm told there aren't many are powerful and rich, Flynt, Hirsch - Internet people are bigger than everybody else. I'm not sure but i think there about 5 Internet people as big or bigger than Hirsch. Hefner even though Playboy has been through difficult years, if you sold off that whole company it would go for huge money.
The talent could have more power than it does - well they have the ultimate power when they flake.

It includes wealth and other forms of power. For example, the most powerful people are often pretty anonymous, but others don't have much wealth but wield large influence over porn consumers by being high profile.
