I have got Quicktime and Real Payer but neither play each other files which is inconvenient.

Real player seem to have a download that plays both but you have to pay for it.

I only use the media files for short listing some DVD's from trailers so I don't want to pay for just this.

Is there a download out there that will play more different types of files ?

TIA

You don't say what operating system you are running. Mac or Windows. There is an application called VLC that plays a lot of file types and is available for both platforms and Linux. The fly in the ointment is probably the Real Player files. I don't know if they play on VLC and I try to avoid them anyway because they're crap. On Windows, the Windows Media Player will play mpg, avi, wmv, asf files with no problems as long as you have your codecs up to date.

Thankx for this first pointer. I have got Windows 98.

I should say I have three types of files icons. I don't use the Windows Media Player as it only plays one type (well probably more, but only one type of the three types of file that I seem to have downloaded) but that is a type that also plays on Real player.

What are codecs ? I onyl know the basics.
