I like the different options of bitrates, the easy UI, and the sound encoding quality. After the 30 day trial it's unusable. Does anyone know of a way to redownload it or reinstall it so that the lock comes off? OR does anyone know a comparable FREE program? [Link] |

Maybe I didn't spend enough time looking around, but all I found to download was source code, which seems to be what I recall sourceforge as being the place to go for. Can you recommend a place to go, for folks that are not wanting all the gory details and background and to compile, to get the version you recommend of lame that will run on Win9x? [Link] |

| jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04 | Posted - Jun 3 2005 : 4:37PM EL_-what format do you want the files to be? for mp3, lame's your best bet. ipods play .aac, irivers and rio karma's will play .ogg, both are more modern than .mp3 by a small margin. you can play any of them on your computer. if you want to go lossless, flac or .ape are the best options, but are about 50% compressed so you might not want to use them for a large collection of music on a small hard drive. hydrogenaudio.org is really the authority on the subject, you've got the people developing pretty much all of the current formats checking in there. Here's my problem - when I go there, all I can find is tarred versions, that I suspect are source code for linux versions. Apparently, I don't know what I'm doing with sourceforge. :) Is there a trick to finding compiled, ready to run software there? Zipped, not tarred? And is there a trick to finding Windoze softare there? [Link] |
